I've been to other Cupcake Royales before but this one is my favorite. Why? Because the cashier was the nicest cashier ever! My friends and I came in after seeing the sign for the special autumn flavored cupcakes: pear ginger and the pumpkin cardamom. The cashier gave us a friendly greeting. I ordered a pear ginger cupcake and then asked about their pumpkin latte and whether that had coffee in it. He told me that they can make it without coffee and then immediately poured me a sample of the coffee-free drink. He explained that it was steamed milk with pumpkin purée and a few other spices mixed in. It. Was. Yummy. So I got an 8 oz small cup of that. If you eat your cupcakes there, they put it in a real (cute and pink) plate and you can eat it with real silverware. It took a while to get my pumpkin latte - it was a busy Sunday morning. But it was nice and warm and it tasted like autumn!!! Such a lovely time of year. It went well with my delicious pear ginger cupcake. My friend's pumpkin cupcake was great too. Dryer than an unbuttered piece of toast on a hot day under a heat lamp in the middle of the Sahara. Fun little place if you're craving something to satisfy your sweet tooth. Came here after having a birthday lunch with my coworkers. We mentioned we were celebrating a birthday and we were give 10% off. Really friendly service. We tried the Key Lime Cupcake and it was beautifully delicious. I love these cupcakes!!! I ordered some for my son's birthday while we were having lunch at Jak's Grill a couple stores away. They were the best cupcakes ever. The salted caramel was definitely my favorite. I loved the grasshopper, also. He had a lemon drop, butterfinger, and red velvet (don't worry, we didn't eat them all in one night!). He didn't share his, so I can't say how good they were. By the sounds he was making while eating, I'd say they were pretty darn good! I ordered a tiramisu cupcake and a red velvet cake pop. The tiramisu cupcake frosting itself was delicious but not the cake itself. I thought the cake was just okay. I definitely would not order the red velvet cake pop again. I've had a lot of red velvet over the years and this particular one did not taste similar to any other... and in this case it's not a good thing. On a side note, the square ipad terminal that they use as a register was running awfully slow. Where we lived before, we had a ton of cupcake places within walking distance, and they were fantastic. One had oreo cupcakes with vanilla as the base and Oreo chunks, which no other cupcake place around did. And they were delicious! We kept passing this place on our walks, so today we finally went inside. Really cute place, and clean, which we immediately appreciated. They did have a unique menu, so nothing that I would usually get, so I took a chance on the pumpkin maple and tested their original. The pumpkin maple was amazing, super moist and the frosting was fantastic. My partner thought his tiramisu was too dry. But liked his caramel. It was $18 for 4 cupcakes, which is def more than we paid at our usual places. We're kind of split on this place so far - maybe we'll swing by every once in a while when we have a serious craving. I only eat sweets made with sugar a few times a year on holidays as I'm diabetic. So getting to have cupcakes from Cupcake Royale while visiting some friends here was quite a treat! There were four of us so we got four cupcakes and split them all, so that we could experience the different varieties. My favorite was the white chocolate and cranberry, it was so light, fluffy and tasty, with a tart, fruity center. Loved it! A close second was the tiramisu, it was light, creamy and full of mocha flavor, really good. The other two were also quite good, just not my personal favorites. The lemon cupcake was delish, but for my tastes, could have been just a smidge more intense and tart. The chocolate with salted caramel icing was also flavorful, I'm just not a huge fan of salted sweets. I loved the shop and love that they have gay cupcakes and dance party cupcakes. I realize cupcakes are perishable so they don't want a lot of extras but when you are completely out, hours before you close, you are very poor at projecting product. One of the employees informed us that the dining area was closed even though it was still 30min before closing time. I have never been more compelled to write a one-star review for a business. I wish I could give them zero stars, in all honesty. I am not a huge fan of the cupcakes here (Trophy cupcakes are the bestttt), but I needed some gluten free cupcakes to take to a classroom birthday party on short notice and I know that they offer some. I tried calling several times the day before, but no one ever answered, so finally I left a message in the evening about ordering cupcakes. I was really hoping I would get a call back before closing, but no such luck, so I went in the next morning to see what they had available. Granted, I needed 26 cupcakes, which is probably a lot on such short notice, but the employee who helped me was so rude about it and especially unaccommodating. They didn't need to all be GF, but I did pretty much clean them out with the GF selection they had available. Whenever I asked a question about the quantities of other varieties she had, she just replied with, "If you needed that many cupcakes, then you should have pre-ordered." She said this to me probably four times within the first two minutes of our interaction. Okay, I get it, but maybe you (a) should answer your phone or (b) learn a little bit more about customer service if you're going to work in this type of industry. I felt really uncomfortable. It was almost as if she was pissed off at me for wanting to buy so many cupcakes. "Like I said, if you needed so many you could have pre-ordered." Oh my goddddd. Then I did the unthinkable by asking if she could double check in the back for me on a certain cupcake type, so she went back there and came storming back out with who I assume is the manager and she glared at me, too!!!!!!! I chickened out. I had a choice between the hot and exciting cupcake or the tamer, more boring one and I didn't man up: Cupcake Royale's flavors of the month for February 2011 are Chocolate cake with Strawberry frosting and Red Hot (made from Theo Chocolate's Ghost Chili). Instead of ordering the Cupcake made using the World's Hottest Chili, I got the Chocolate Strawberry instead. Neither exciting nor super tasty. The cupcake top (or the muffin top) was a bit harder than expected and the frosting was on the sweeter side. I'd recommend skipping Chocolate Strawberry altogether and just get one of their regular flavors instead and save yourself the extra money. While the cupcake didn't wow me, they do have great baristas here -- very friendly and flexible. I came by at around noon and ordered a grande drip (16 oz) with the cupcake, but unfortunately they only had 8 oz left so she didn't charge me for the coffee. If you're looking to get some work done -- then this is a good place as they have free WIFI (you have to sign up for an account) and a good number of outlets near the tables. read more

What's not to love about this place? I read other reviews and couldn't believe it... C.R. was one of the first places I went on my "I live in West Seattle now, welcome me bitches!" walk. They have fully comfortable, plush seating, lots of round tables for chatting, expresso and beer/wine, and great people behind the counter. In fact, after chatting a bit, I got a free cupcake on the house!! And the cupcake? Pretty spectacular. The frosting was cold and soft and pretty. I'm reviewing Cupcake Royales ice cream only. Not being the biggest cupcake fan I still love good ice cream and good cake. Cupcake Royale has some really delicious, inventive flavors that are inspired largely by their cupcake flavors. Many have real pieces of cake and frosting swirled throughout. The base of the ice cream is delicious and I love places that pack their ice cream with flavor and pieces. The staff has always been top notch when I have visited the store. The store is clean and seating plentiful. Good location on Market St. Sample as many flavors as you like. My favorite is the banana rum fudge or whatever it is called...all I know is it has bananas foster feel to it, a great hit of rum, AND chocolate to boot!!! read more

The only two critiques I have are about the price and the cupcake itself. One cupcake is around $3.50 (a little more for the fancier flavors). The cupcakes themselves are pretty heavy... Not a spongy, fluffy recipe. If I had to compare it, I would say that it was more similar to the consistency of pound cake.
