Upon entering we were seated promptly. We went around 10 on a Friday and it wasn't packed. Our server at first was not very pleasant and seemed annoyed. Her attitude was very off putting to an extent where we thought about leaving. However, she did get better eventually. Things happen. Now to the ambiance, it has great vibe and drinks. The food was absolutely delicious. Cooked to perfection. I was pleasantly surprised. Will definitely be back. read more

Save yourself (and your time & money)! What a terrible experience. Bad service, bad food, but they make up for it with overpriced meals and drinks. Went for Easter brunch. It took the waiter three times and over and hour to get a requested mimosa to our table. First they brought something they were pushing for brunch that was not a mimosa. Then they tried to drop the same thing off again (minus the peep they had floating in the first drink). Finally after I explained to the waiter what goes in a mimosa, they brought the correct drink. What was irritating is that the waiter tried to charge us for the first drink he brought - which wasn't close to a mimosa. The server only came to the table when a member of our party flagged him down. Any request required at least one additional reminder (always separated by no less than 10 minutes). Took 20+ minutes just to pay the bill. Among the worst dining experiences I've ever had. read more

For starters, they had gluten free buns, so I had to have the turkey pastrami sandwich. My friend had a yummy salad with avocado and cherry tomatoes. The menu looks good and I appreciated the care they took on my gluten free plate. The service was excellent and the space is interesting. I'll take my husband next time. He will like it! read more

I contacted Culinary Dropout and spoke with manager on duty "M" and explained that we needed a private dining room after returning from a burial at the Alabama Cemetery and he graciously agreed to accommodate our request. He then went on to explain that Brandi w0uld reach out to us to confirm the booking. By Tuesday, I realized that I had not heard from her, since the services were on the following day (Wednesday). I contacted the restaurant and requested to speak with her after providing my name. I could hear ongoing conversations prior to being transferred. I left the reason for my call as well as my contact information. The message was left on November 4th and as of this communication, I have not heard back from Culinary Dropout. Needless, to say I guess my business wasn't wanted, since it was only a party of 10. Fortunately, another restaurant was contacted and we received excellent service and the food was great as well. I will be sure to share this experience with all. UPDATE: I was contacted by Matt and I explained that I had not received the call and even offered to provide screenshots, which he declined. He apologized for the miscommunication and went the extra mile to earn my trust back for a future visit. I completely understand that mistakes happen, but it is the acceptance of the mistake which makes one move forward. Culinary Dropout thank you again for reaching out and now the rating has been updated to a "5 star". read more

I'll start with a positive: The food really was phenomenal. My wife and I shared some appetizers and loved them. We had the pretzel bites as well as the house made chips. Both were incredible and we'd order them again. Then we split the Steak Frites. It was delicious. Would totally eat again. The negative: -we were told it'd be a 45 minute wait (which on a Friday night without a reservation is not unexpected). But we waited 55+ and then finally got a table once we had asked about it. -there was LOUD live music that we really didn't love. -our waitress barely made eye contact with us and talked a softly we had no idea what she said. She also rarely stopped by. -we ordered appetizers, drinks, and our entree at the same time. We got our apps in 10-15, then had to wait another 10+ minutes to get our drinks. I was really hoping to drink my beer while I ate my appetizer but that don't happen. And what made it worse was that I could see it sitting at the bar just waiting. And I would have asked the waitress for it but she never stopped by since taking out initial order. -also, by the time we finally got our food it was a bit luke-warm and not a ton of steak. All-in-all, the food was really great. We really enjoyed it and plan to come back, hoping the service was just off. read more

Another rare 5 star. We have order it 3 times door dash and it was memorable and quality enough to keep having it delivered but the in dining experience bring a whole new level to this place. Wow. First, it was a total re-decor from a National Italian chain and the building and layout a superb. The outdoor dining looks amazing. Always busy enough to have a very short wait. The inside is a mixture of modern, cozy, upbeat upscale very tasteful. The waitresses all carry purses with straps on their shoulders so you never notice them and think they are not servers. Neat. Their menu is unique. I have been there 3 times and experienced a lot of the menu. Appetizers; bbq ribs were fantastic and lots of meat. A great choice. The wings are memorable omg get them! The pigs in the blanket are the highest quality and you know it upon first bite. But the tahini and whipped feta take the spotlight for appetizers. The mixture of seasoning and ingredient's and the quality of all these apps are 10/10. Every time I secretly say to myself "if this is a culinary dropout I would rather have this than a chef". I know its just a neat name and these are all 5 star Michelin chefs here, I mean they have to be based on the food and quality and presentation and how my tastebuds party. The strawberry salad is over the top. I always get the chicken on the side because i do not like it wilt my lettuce. The ingredients are top notch and very fresh. Something about that farrow they add makes this a rustic almost Mid-evil throwback to olden days. The poppyseed dressing is spot on and well dispersed but you may want to ask for extra on the side it you like a more wet salad. I have had this salad now twice and its consistent! The salmon was fabulous as well. The big mac burger is like a 5 star chef at home big mac and is fabulous. So much so you will forget your manners and yes you will make a mess because this thing is a two hander the entire time and worth it. I chose to not set it down and all care of what other think went out the window. Jus sayin. Overall a great place with a unique decor and very high quality food. You won't be disappointed. read more

I tried this place on a girls night out. The menu seemed odd and scattered. Like there were a lot of choices.. too many in my opinion. I think maybe a few things that they are good at should be on the menu while others could drop off. We had the pork belly nachos. Most of the nachos were covered while some with stragglers. Overall this was a good choice. Second we had the chicken wings Buffalo style. They give us a bowl for the wings which was different but ok. The chicken on the wings seemed dry and not moist to be so small. The sauces helped but overall I wasn't thrilled. May not try this place again. read more

Came for an early dinner. Musical act was about to start. I let them eat me right next to the stage and overheard a lot of things. Musicians: can we get some help with the sound system? Staff: yeah, let me find the MG. Musician: .... Start time for live music: GM: Are you ready? Musician: well, we haven't checked mics or anything. GM: Are you ready?? Musician: well, since we didn't do any soundcheck I have to wrap my mi cable and safely route it. GM: what about this one case that is beside the stage? Musician: I will be happy to put them anywhere you like. GM: Can you put them in your car? Musician: I don't have my car here. GM: HOW DID YOU GET HERE?? We participated in the soft open today for brunch and had a great time. The food, service, and atmosphere were all fantastic. The remodel of the restaurant was great, very clean and open vibe. The brunch menu had several unique offerings as well as "brunch standards". My wife had the 2 egg breakfast and I had the fried chicken and buttermilk biscuit. Both were excellent. My Bloody Mary was spot on. The desserts were excellent as well. Our server was very nice and did a great job. The live music was great and perfect for the brunch crowd. Can't wait to go back for dinner after they officially open. read more

I'm so glad a place like this is finally in Birmingham! I made a reservation and was seated pretty quickly. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, especially the bar area. Our server was GREAT! Isaiah did a great job introducing and explaining the menu. The drinks took a minute to arrive at the table but Isaiah kept us updated, while we enjoyed listening to the band which was great! Our food was delicious, steak was tender and my husband had the ribs which he raved about! Oh and the drinks were absolutely delicious, well worth the wait! Can't wait to go back to try the Korean Style rib cap!! This is a great place for a date night or taking friends who come to visit! read more

Where do I begin?! This place is the absolute most amazing restaurant I've been to Birmingham. The ambiance with the live music, the beautiful decor, the clean bathroom, the incredible drinks, delicious food and even the great customer service makes this restaurant stand out, even with the name! Raegan was our server and she was soo humble and attentive. Also, I love ranch and never had I experienced ranch like theirs. It was thick and creamy with the right blend of flavors I give this place a 10/10 read more

The food is always excellent here! I am writing to say just how they went way above board last night to accommodate my disabled wife and five of her friends celebrating her Birthday! My wife has injured her back and after surgery cannot sit in a regular chair or booth. Charles the manager offered a group sitting in one of the cushy backed booths a round of drinks to swap so my wife's group could be comfortable. It was much appreciated and one reason why we like to recommend Culinary Dropout to anyone looking for a new great restaurant to try out. Several of the ladies had the Duck & Shrimp dish that they raved over. Margs were excellent as well! read more

I had the chef's board with a friend and it was delicious. We had the marinated olives, bread, salmon dip, and pretty much everything else that comes on it. The salmon dip was delicious. Make sure you order the bread with it. Also, if you want to know you server's name ask. They aren't allowed to tell you. However, we had Kelsi and she was happy to know we wanted to know her name. She was very sweet, and came back to check on us often. We sat outside on the patio and it was nice. Inside is also nice. I think it's hard to go wrong unless the weather is bad. It's an open kitchen behind windows. read more

My husband and I have been many times, great food, the best atmosphere and overall, the staff are so nice and welcoming! We love it!

To start... 4 hostesses ?? Really?? We came to the restaurant at 5:45. First hostess tells us 30 min wait, then another takes over and tells us 1 hour. Immediately as someone worked in this industry realized there are too many untrained people working. I come back 50 mins later and told the hostess who told me 1 hour that I waited almost an hour and wanted to see how much longer. She tells me, "Well, you've only waited 50 mins, I'll have your table at 60 mins". I laughed and walked away. We were seated 3 mins later, waited 4 mins til waiter Keith to come by. He already told us 86 items (items no longer available). So to avoid missing out the famous 36 hr ribs, I placed that order right away. When my wife ordered the nachos, it was also 86'd. Mind you. This is right at 7. My ribs were okay. Fries that came with it was meh. Slaw was meh. My wife ordered the some kale salad and that was good. But weird thing was that her salad came out before my 36 hour ribs. My ribs didn't come out for good 10-15 mins. Weird since it should have been done and all they had to do was put some fries and slaw. Which fries weren't made fresh. For final, we got the apple and ice cream dish. Now this was the highlight. I think it was Monkey Bar. This was awesome. I would come back for this. Finally, I did Luca in homewood day before and this place tonight. I rate this place higher because of our server Keith. He was good and much better experience at the end. I will come back to try other dishes and definitely for the Apple Monkey Bar thingy. read more
