Saltgrass (I miss the 280 location) is one of the only restaurants within Birmingham that you can utilize this offer, however, you can defer your reward and use at a later date for a restaurant near where you reside or any other participating restaurant while traveling. Between 3.5-4 stars Saltgrass was not very busy upon entering. They had a birthday party, about 3 other tables in the main dining room, 4 bar booths and then me at the bar. Pretty bare considering the size of the space and amount of tables throughout. The gentleman and young lady working the bar area were attentive while assisting throughout other sections of the restaurant. I was warmly greeted and promptly given both my water and bread while giving me a moment to skim through the menu. I landed on the 22 oz porterhouse (medium rare), mashed potatoes and caesar salad with dressing on the side. The portion of the side salad was smaller than I was used to at saltgrass, my steak was medium on the NY strip side and medium rare on the filet mignon side (inconsistent temperature), potatoes were fine. Overall flavor was as expected. The staff themselves were great. They seemed to work well together. Bathroom stall (first stall in Women's) does not have a lock (missing slide bolt), some toilet paper needed to be picked up (very minimal), paper towels/napkins were running low, clean otherwise. read more

Food was great and service was fantastic! It was busy, but we were seated quickly, and we had a great waitress. While it was generally loud, it wasn't so loud that we couldn't enjoy the conversation at the table. Even with drinks, appetizers, and the meal, we never had to wait long for anything, and it was all cooked to request and tasted great. It was freezing in the restaurant. Easter dinner with family and noticed how cold it was. You can feel the air and draft which made me more concerned about the food being cooled before you could enjoy your meal (it did cool the food quickly). I asked about the air and was told that it takes a while for it to be turned down but I doubt anything was done about it because our waitress immediately asked if we wanted to order food. I felt disregarded. I noticed another patron stood outside a while I went to my car to get a jacket. I ordered the country fried steak.... It was okay. Preferred another restaurants cfs better. The waitress didn't seem to be in a good mood. Overall, I was disappointed with this visit and felt bad because I suggested this restaurant for my family. Came here with a group of coworkers while in town for some training. I had never been to a salt grass but seeing that it was a steakhouse, I was in. I loved the ambiance, it was kinda typical steakhouse, had the whole dark wood kinda feel. Felt like a nicer Outback, but the food was way better. I got the chicken fried steak wish mashed potatoes and a house salad. The salad was great, loved the ranch and the croutons. So yummy. The chicken fried steak I dare say was the best I've had, and I've had a lot over the years. The breading was so good, gravy was amazing and it was HUGE! I also loved that they put black pepper on it, and I loved the coarse grind on the pepper. Everyone else got steak and burgers, it all looked fantastic. We made a reservation for Christmas day. After driving back home over a long holiday weekend, we wanted a nice meal and saw Saltgrass was open and taking reservations. We quickly made one. The employees were very friendly, and constantly checking on us. We had brisket queso for an appetizer, as well as some of their great bread. Our waiter was very polite and attentive, the manager was nice to come around and ask how everything was going. It didn't take long for our food to come out, despite the 3 orders of steak. Started with appetizers of fried pickles which were good but the mozzarella sticks seem a little overcooked. I ordered a wedge salad but didn't become aware that it was an extra $4.99 until the ticket arrived. It was good and fulfilling salad. Saltgrass was very accommodating for a larger group of 9 on a Friday night. They had quite a few large parties. We had reservations at 5:30 so as soon as we sat I was looking for the happy hour menu. It wasn't on the table so I had to ask our server to get some and he wasn't aware of the happy hour so he had to ask his manager about it. He finally brought us the menus but it only left us about 10 mins to order bc he said the system changes. Nevertheless, we were able to get the order in on time. We all ordered our food and my boyfriend asked if the baked potato skin was salted bc he prefers it that way. The waiter looked at him with so much confusion and said " I'm not sure but we have salt on the table. Needless to say, he ordered broccoli instead lol. I got the country fried steak. I should have listened to my friend who said that this steakhouse was not good. I had a new server who brought me the wrong food (I don't blame her because she is new) and a manager brought out the porterhouse that I had ordered around an hour after I had ordered it. My friend ordered the prime rib, medium rare, and it came out well done. The waitress said that she talked to her manager, and she was going to comp our meals. I asked the waitress to go get a check so that I can leave her a tip. When she came back, she brought two full checks when I asked her why the stakes were not complimented as discussed previously she said she was confused, and the manager said that she was going to comp the initial stake they brought to me that I did not eat or order. I had to leave in a rush because I was very late, so I called the restaurant and asked them about the confusion. The manager, Stephanie explained that they complimented the first steak that I did not eat, and then ran away from the phone. When I go out to eat, I expect timely service and to receive what I ordered neither of these things were provided by management. Steak was decent. My server was kind management is poor. I have not eaten in restaurant, but I have had their food catered several times. I love the mashed potatoes and their salmon. Salmon is one of my favorite things and they always make mine right. We came here in a whimsical in a Saturday night since our usual place was packed. I hate to write bad reviews but the food was awful. This was our first time here and our waitress told us this was a scratch kitchen (nothing is store bought). We waited about 40 mins for our cold food, the steak was tough and not good, the BBQ ribs was not fall off the bone--it didn't even looked slow cooked or seasoned. Mash potatoes wasn't bad and the house salad was cold and good (but I feel like it's so easy to make). Our server came over maybe twice, once to refill and other right after we got our food. I've been here 3 times and none of them were exceptional, but after last night, I'll never go back. I took my best friend who was in town. We waited for a very long time for someone to even come to our table to take our drink orders. We waited another long while before our waiter came to take our food order and then he proceeded to try to sell us some ridiculous promotional from the restaurant where you get "rewards" and such, yet have to pay $25 up front. Our food, shockingly, came out in a reasonable time. We ordered queso dip to split. It was pretty good. My best friend ordered a couple of side dishes. I ordered the tenderloin tips with sautéed mushrooms and onions from the appetizer menu. It was not good at all. Every bite of meat that I took was either gristle and could not be chewed or a mouthful of fat. The mushrooms and onions were floating in white and oily water. It was disgusting. Also, at one point I took a bite and it was something green that was definitely not supposed to be in the dish. I told our waiter & he saw I hardly ate any and he said sorry, but that's it. To top it off, my friend ordered a plain burger with fries and a slice of cheesecake to-go, to take to her husband. We waited and waited and waited. Our waiter came by a couple of times saying hopefully it would be ready soon. It was starting to get ridiculous and we asked another waiter to go get our waiter and he said he had talked to the manager and then he started complaining about the manager and saying that he "did not want to get his hands dirty." My friend said, well if this is much much longer then I want to talk to the manager myself. It was about that time that the food came out. Management really needs to get it together.
