Mountain Brook outpost. Crestline staple. My friends and I used to be regulars here for Wednesday trivia, which is fun. They host an annual event called Oteysfest which is a LOT of college kids and ends up being sold out. As a bar, there isn't a whole lot of room for moving around/socializing. This isn't really your post up, dance vibe. It's seated. Imagine gold bros in quarter zips. Menu is very family-friendly. Chicken tenders, sandwiches, pasta salad, and the like. My recommendation is 100% the fish and chips, which is a special they only have on specific days. My buddies love the transfusions (vodka, grape juice, ginger beer, lime, I think). It's a fun time, and good for a casual, easy lunch. Unless there's something huge going on parking is normally super easy. read more

Otey's is a fun place to casually eat/drink with a larger group of friends. They have enough patio seating for large groups, and a handful of tables inside. The menu is expansive, and everything is good bar food. I always order the wings and fries here, but my friends like the sandwiches. The fries, onion rings, etc. are also great shareables. Service here is extremely inconsistent. We often have to grab a waiter, and if you're sitting outside, that can be difficult. I would not go here if you're in a rush, but for a yappy lunch, it is a great choice. read more

Food/atmosphere is good. Just be sure to ask for an itemized bill. I was given a credit card bill with a place for a tip. I didn't realize till later they had already included the tip. Lesson learned to ask for the actual itemized bill with your tab. Some server there is sneaky. read more

I came here with a group of friends for dinner last week. I had heard a lot about this place so was really looking forward to finally trying it. It's kind of a hole in the wall in Mountain Brook. The bar/restaurant itself was kind of small. Since our party was pretty big, we had to sit in their outside patio area. The servers were nice, but service was a bit slow having to wait a good bit to flag down our server to take our food orders. He didn't write anything down, but he got all of our orders right. Otey's is a basic bar, trying to be a little bit more. They lack attention to detail. I knew I was in trouble when our server (the name Nicole was on the check) asked us about drinks, we asked for a Michelob ultra and an unsweet iced tea - she brought the beer, and within 60 seconds forgot what the second drink was. This was not a busy time of day, it was 5:30 p.m., and the restaurant was at about 50% of capacity. I ordered the cheeseburger with onion rings, and she put it in to the kitchen as a cheeseburger and fries. She asked how we'd like our burgers done - we both asked for medium, one came out rare and one came out well done. We're the kind of people who usually lean towards a five-star review for everything, servers and local businesses need as much promotion as possible. Unfortunately the whole experience was sub par, even waiting for about 15 minutes after our dishes were cleared by a busboy before we asked another waitress to help us get our check. Otey's feels like one of those places designed around their regulars. Outside, there was the smoking crew. Inside there were people who all seem to know each other. As this was only my second time to Otey's in the past year, I can only assume that our service level was worse because we're not regulars. Otey's is a fantastic neighborhood bar. And that is what it is. Not divey, not fancy... but ideal for anyone living or visiting the area. The drinks are fast and strong. I have been here many times before. But I have never been here for a meal. Unfortunately in the times we live in, I still can't "go" for a meal. But when I saw they were doing pick up and I wanted a place I haven't reviewed, Otey's made sense. Their ordering and curbside was really easy. They take you CC over the phone and bring your food when you arrive. That part was great. As wil so many of my take-out reviews lately, you just have to know that the quality won't be nearly as good. So you have to keep that in mind when doing your first review. I got the chicken finger basket. I was in the mood so don't judge me for my childlike taste. I got half fries half rings. Everything was pretty good, but not great. I'm sure it would have been better there. So with that in mind, I give the experience an overall four stars. read more

How can Otey's be labeled as a "dive bar" when most of their customers show up in dressy event wear? I honestly don't know why I keep giving this place so many chances. I always give people, places and experiences the benefit of a doubt if they're undesirable the first go around. Last night's experience made me feel the need to review based on Otey's atmosphere and clientele. This is a tiny bar located in the heart of Crestline Village in Mountain Brook. It's about two minutes away from my house, so it's very convenient when you're not really wanting to go out far. They serve your typical bar food and drinks with a decent selection of beer. I particularly like the chicken tenders. They have great live music on the weekends as well. The best time to go would be around dinner on a week night to avoid the weekend/late week night rowdy college student crowds. I've been here several times with my husband and our friends. Each time we come, we end up leaving within an hour of arriving because of the customers that Otey's brings in and how we get ignored by the bartenders. There's nothing I hate more because I consider myself extremely patient. We came in again last night and of course it was the same old story. Loads of 20-something-year olds were just arriving after a wedding, party or another event in their suits, ties and furs accompanied by their heinous attitudes. Completely outrageous and made me never want to come to Otey's again. Both the staff and the customers (especially) were very rude. That customer base needs to be cleaned up. If I show up again, it will be because it's my last resort. read more

I would give less than one star if possible. Last time I went, the waitress added $5 to my bill for a tip, even though I already had left one. My sister has had the same thing happen twice. OTEY'S STEALS FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS. The food is average and it's a crap hole. I REPEAT- my waitress OVERCHARGED me and this has happened to others. Extremely unprofessional, not to mention illegal. It's a good atmosphere every time I go. My wife and I usually like to walk down the hill and bring our dogs for dinner. Otey's has been kind to them every time and are nice enough to bring water bowls. The hang up I have with this place is that the food isn't stellar. I'd understand the food being what it is if this were more of a bar, but every time I've gone it's been nothing but people sitting down for dinner. It's likely that I haven't found my dish yet but I've sampled 5 or so different things and haven't found anything I love. I'll still be back because the atmosphere and convenience are terrific, but I wish they'd consider revamping their menu. read more

Typical American fare in terms of food options. Service is fast casual. The portions here are generous, quality however is pretty basic. I found the food here to be a bit more on the dry side. 5* burgers and wings. Stopped by the other day with the group. It's my pre body cleansing period where I seek to gain as much weight as possible (the more you weigh, the easier it is to lose). So I went with a pound of buffalo wings. A buffalo wing is a perfect food group. Don't tweak it or mess with it like they do out west. The only acceptable derivation (did I really type that?) is smoked wings. And a bacon cheeseburger to top off my caloric indulgence. Otey's has always been somewhere in the background of my life. When I was very young, my mom's college friend owned it and it was called Cacky's. We went all the time so the parents could catch up, have a drink (and maybe even a smoke!), while the kids ran amok in the parking lot and snooped around Snoozy's to pick out the coolest toys. Now Otey's has transformed into that local watering hole that loads of people I went to high school with frequent. At first that would seem like a bit of a turn-off, but now its fun to get to go down to this super casual spot and catch up with or simply people-watch people who I used to know. The drinks are generous and inexpensive, the food is great (for pub food), the live music provides a great backdrop to conversation, and the outdoor patio area is an added bonus. Now that smoking indoors isn't allowed, Otey's gained its 4th star from me - before I was always left with stinky ash-tray smell, but now I'm not. This girl = happy camper! read more

So I have been here a couple of times because my friends that live in Birmingham consider this their local. And since they know I love a low key, divey, strip mall bar then they knew I would love it here. First off, when I initially saw how this place was spelled I wanted to pronounce it "Oh tays" like Buckwheat you know? O-TAY! So basically I am going to call it "Oh-tays" forever even though that's totally not how you say it. I think this just makes me like it more. Bar staff friendly. Bar patrons friendly. Patio for hanging out when the weather is nice. Sometimes some live band is playing. Food is pretty good bar food as well. It was my first time at Otey's and I read a review on here that said "the onion rings are a must" so I ordered them and sad to say "they are NOT a must" will not be ordering them again. It was too doughy. Majority of it was just batter and no onion. 2 of my onion rings wasn't even cooked all the way I bit into the onion ring only to get a mouth full of flower. read more

My roommate and I wanted to try somewhere new so we decided to give this place a try. Let it be known that the directions won't lead you directly to the restaurant. It's located right across from Zoe's in the shopping center. We seated ourselves and started to look over the menu. It was your typical bar fare of burgers, chicken tenders and other fried options to satisfy your hunger. I ordered a grilled cheese with onion rings and a Lagunitas and my roommate ordered a plain cheeseburger. My beer came out fairly quickly but there was a bit of wait for our food. My roommate said that her burger was pretty good and my grilled cheese was fairly standard. Looking around the restaurant I could see that the clientele was mostly families, both young and old professionals and older retirees. Essentially not the type of place you would want to have too much to drink. The décor was pretty cool. It was a nice mix of old advertising tins and other things to match that aesthetic. I don't think I'll be back but if you're looking for a chill place to go with the family, I would recommend Otey's. read more

What a staple in Mt. Brook. I love this place and the service is great. Shawn is a buddy of mine from back in the day but he is one of the nicest people I've ever met and does a fantastic job (wish I could steal him to come work with me at Cellular Sales). Its most certainly a local watering hole and it's that kind of place "where everybody knows your name." I've also never had a bad meal and love their patio especially during the fall. We only live about an 8 minute drive from Otys so that's a plus. However, when I lived on 280 I would make it over here because of all the above mentioned. Otys never lets us down and I'll be seeing all those fellas soon for football season and cold IPAs. read more
