It's a cute spot, but the prices go wild. I really liked the chilaquiles, but because the flavor seems to rotate weekly you might not get what you came for (seems to be what happened to the table next to us). When I went they had a jalapeño green sauce. It was a bit spicy but delicious nonetheless. I think it's a wee bit silly to charge extra for beans but *shrug* The waffle con cinco leche, however, made no sense. $16 for a single waffle and milk sauce that tasted like slightly sweet milk. I mean I almost feel like if they just soaked it in the milk like tres leches cake it would have been better? I didn't like the chicken tamal, was a bit dry to me. The taco w/longaniza looked good but I didn't get to try. Drink pricing also made no sense. I've never seen a $10 price tag on coffee in a non-specialty coffee shop. The cappuccino and latte we got was fine though. Service was friendly and the restrooms are nice and clean. We were able to find street parking pretty easily, but it wasn't a busy day. It could be a cute spot to come for pastries and coffee, but there is a 60 min seating limit. I'm no stranger to inflation, and I don't think it's fair to say that a restaurant should be cheap just because it's Houston, but this restaurant pricing was probably the highest I've seen relative to the quality/portions. I would still come back with friends to try other things to see if other things are better.

Cucharita is one of my favorite brunch restaurants in Houston. The restaurant is so adorable and you feel transported to a cutesy Mexico City cafe the second you walk in. Every time I eat at Cucharita, I get the same thing: tlacoyo de frijol. The simplicity of the dish hits the spot every single time. Such a delicious, filling option minus the feeling of overwhelming heaviness and bloating. Another plus is that the warm crispy tlacoyo is a great option for diners who are vegetarian. I came with my friends who got the huevos con longanisa tacos and the picadillo. Both enjoyed their meals. I've also heard that the chilaquiles, enchiladas, and fresh-baked pastries are yummy here- so basically most of their menu is good. Lastly service is ok. Servers are pretty attentive and accommodating. The restaurant is really clean too.
I absolutely loved this place! We enjoyed it so much that we went two mornings in a row for breakfast. Cucharita is tucked into a small, cozy spot with a very traditional Mexican feel that makes the whole experience warm and inviting. The food was beyond amazing. Every dish felt fresh and authentic. The pastries were truly out of this world, some of the best I've ever had. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the atmosphere even better. It's the kind of place that makes you want to linger over coffee and soak it all in. Honestly, I would go back to Houston just to eat here again. A hidden gem worth every visit!
Food was bomb Quick and easy and service was good. I had the green enchiladas and my wife had the tostadas.
My mom and I came here around Christmas for breakfast and loved it! The chilaquiles were not spicy thankfully and I happily enjoyed its unique flavor and bright green color. I also tried the carajillo and loved the presentation with the cube of brown sugar as well as the pretty layers. It's a bit of a small space but they make the most of it with seating against the window, and I was tickled by the addition of fresh flowers on each table. My mom bought some pastries and sweets from the front bakery area and they all smelled amazing. Everyone we interacted with from the lady who sat us promptly, our server and the cashier were sweet and attentive. Such a gem and I'll happily return.
This place is very welcoming, with fast, friendly, and attentive service. Both the indoor and outdoor seating areas are nice and comfortable. The chilaquiles are absolutely delicious--very filling, with the perfect balance of spicy and creamy flavors. Their café de olla is excellent, and the horchata is sweet with a wonderful cinnamon flavor. The pastries are fluffy, fresh, and perfectly sweet. Overall, a very good experience, and I would definitely recommend it!
I am an OBSESSED fan. Growing up Mexican, but in South Mississippi- I felt like I was visiting the Latina childhood that was "stolen" from me! Quite simply, it was Magical- the ambiance, the service, the presentation and the flavor. I can't sing its praises any higher. So incredibly well done. Thank you- I will revisit Houston- just to eat here again!
First time eating here (still haven't tried Cuchara) and it was a nice time. Came for lunch on a Tuesday so there was lots of street parking less than a block away and my friend got a spot right in front. Everyone was super friendly and the staff on top of it. We got a couple of mocktails to begin with and they were delicious (the one wit condensed milk was wow). However this drink small so be warned if you are super thirsty, you are going to need several. I like a little beverage to sip on here and there in between saltier bites so it was the perfect amount for me. My friend got the omelet and I got the picadillo. I can't tell if she didn't like the omelet or not because she didn't eat a lot of it (the woes of eating with a friend on a GLP-1) but she said it was good. My picadillo was huge. It was enjoying for two people except I only got four small corn tortillas to wrap it in so I had to take the rest home which worked out really well. A little pricey for what you're getting. The patio had great vibes and the weather was perfect. The pastries looked amazing but didn't really want any.

The menu is small but definitely has some Mexican classics. The cafe was the olla was good The picada Grande I enjoyed the chorizo salsa it reminded me the way my grandma makes it. The mimosa was made with fresh orange juice but I felt like it could use a little bit more champagne but still drinkable. I would say the food is a little overpriced especially being simple dishes and would come again for a special occasion but not as a first choice pick for a Mexican restaurant

There is street parking but be careful because there are a lot of no parking signs in the surrounding neighborhood. It was pretty steady business around 12:40 pm on a Tuesday. We were greeted immediately and seated. They serve breakfast and lunch. I opted for their enchiladas and a Mexican coke. And ended with vanilla ice cream with palmier wafers. Enchiladas - shredded chicken, corn tortillas, poblano sauce and cheese. This was so good. I do not like corn tortillas usually but these were good. Tender. The chicken was so tasty and the poblano sauce was creamy and paired perfectly. Grandma beans - I do not eat beans normally but abuela got it right. The beans were creamy and melted in my mouth. Vanilla ice cream - omg, heaven - I wasn't sure what to expect but it was the perfect amount of ice cream , caramel topping and the crunch of the palmier. They have cocktails, mocktails, and some coffee drinks. I would like to go back for their breakfast. They also have pastries. It's a bit pricey but the food is delicious. The staff were A++. Everyone we interacted with there were professional and helpful. I don't remember our server's name but she made the experience even better with her friendliness and suggestions. Def recommend this little cafe. And will be back.
I've heard great things about this place so decided to check it out with my kids. First of all they have no kids menu. My plate with the omelette was OK nothing special just cheese and ham it originally came with mushrooms, but I decided not to do the mushrooms. The atmosphere was OK. I did get told I couldn't have my energy drink that I had brought in. They asked if I wanted them to put it in the fridge or throw it away because they don't allow outside beverages. Other than that. The food was average.
Came here on a Tuesday morning for breakfast. Cute very cozy and little spot in glad we were there early because it got full quickly. The pictures speak for themselves, everything tasted fresh and homemade, I specially loved the coffee (lechero) and the pastries that was my whole reason to go there and I was not disappointed. *****DONT LEAVE WITHOUT TRYING PAN DULCE YOULL BE ON CLOUD 9*********
A nice brunch spot, although the prices are steep There were searing indoor and outside in the patio. Service was friendly and attentive. Caldo de pollo 4.5/5. Very good. Vibrant and flavorful. Ive had it home cooked (just as good) Enchiladas. 4,5/5. Also pretty good. Good flavor. Sprinkled with cheese . Refried beans were tasty. Guacamolito. 4.5/5. It was pretty delicious, but severely overpriced for the quantity provided. The corn tortilla chips were kits like the ones I had in ciudad de Mexico. At the end an assortment of breads was presented for purchase. I opted for the croissant that had a cream spread inside along with strawberries. The food was AMAZING Hightl recommend the chilaquiles (add barbacoa) and the French toast. Our server told us that the French toast was initially introduced as a limited edition item but customers requested it be permanently on the menu. I can see why!! They're DIVINE. Split the chilaquiles and toast with my husband and it was the perfect amount of food. And I didn't have to compromise on sweet vs savory brunch. Very chill vibe but go during the off-hours if you want a better chance of being seated inside. They can get busy. Will definitely be back!! read more

Throughly impressed with my visit to Cucharita! Parking is a little sparse here on this street, but the small inconvenience is not much to worry about. The atmosphere is so on point for what I'm looking for when trying out authentic Mexican restaurants, its true to the heritage, but modern enough to be welcoming to new comers. Love the bright colors and throwback knickknacks that remind me of the panaderias i grew up going to. Service was flawless on my visit here. Our waitress was the definition of polite and knowledgeable. She gave clear and concise summary of the menu and coffees. Plenty of detail on answers toquestions we asked. Witty enough to banter with. This level of care is what usually puts a restaurant into the 5 Star range for me. Food was excellently and carefully prepared and presented. There is thought put into the plating and crafting of the dish. Some heavier dishes like Chilaquiles and some lighter options like tacos round out a good selection of breakfast choices. Coffees were excellent and came with a bit of flair if you order the Lechero. The pan dulces are on the pricey side at $8 a pop but I wasn't really thinking about price after trying a few of them. This shoots up on my list of morning go-to's for sure! read more

Really cute spot the decore is great. Like everyone said the parking is not the best, but worth it. Menu is small which I always love, makes the place feel like everything is fresh. Cafe de olla is a must have. Food was good, not great, flavor was lacking a bit. I will say the pan dulce was delicious. Servers were very attentive and we had great service. read more

The pastries and coffee are the best part of the restaurant. I try not to go during the weekend because the wait is crazy at times. As others mentioned, parking is awful and on the weekend there are only 2 spots available, one being a handicap spot. The place itself is super cute and well decorated. Although there are several employees that are super kind and helpful, there are a few too many that are rude and standoffish. Every single time we've gone we have had encounters with one or two rude ones. No need for unpleasantries during brunch. Also this place is NOTTTTT kid friendly. Perhaps the prejudice was that we brought a toddler in. However, I will note that the toddler is and was well behaved during our visit, so not 100% sure. The pastries and coffee and good though, so maybe leave the children leashed outside while you pick up read more

And we're back with another good review today! Today I went to Cucharita along with my mom, sister and brother in law. My mom had heard about this place and it was her birthday brunch so I decided to treat her to it. As soon as we walked in you can see the bread (smells and looks so delicious). Very nice host and waiters along with very good service and happy workers! We got a couple of things and they were all so good! This is a Mexican themed restaurant so they gave us the blue Mexican tazas (mugs) with water but also their coffee is amazing! And the pan Dulce (sweet bread) was so good. The food was also very good! I'd definitely recommend this place to anybody who likes a good brunch! We came on a Friday so no long wait, if you come on the weekends it might be different. read more

Parking- meh. Easy for a weekday when there's no demand but I imagine may be a bit frustrating on a busy weekend. Cute quaint place with limited seating. Bakery items- I was eyeing these the whole time, waiting to get to them at the end of our meal. Both items we tried were fantastic- I'm officially in love with this Bola Berlin custard stuffed doughnut! In general I find the menu to be a little overpriced. Chilaquiles at $18 for not a significant portion just seems a little criminal (tho the special of the day was a flavourful red sauce) The poblano enchiladas were lovely but I personally like a spicy kick to everything. I'll be back for that Berlin no matter the cost! read more

My tia and cousin picked Cucharita out as a late birthday brunch for me. We were all first timers. Parking wasn't to difficult to find for street parking, this place was kinda small and very crowded but it just meant the food was good, we came on a Sunday and they close at 3pm. We were lucky enough to get seated. My tia and i ordered coffee and both tasted amazing! All our dishes came out fresh and I was so satisfied! I would come here again in a heart beat. read more
Location: corner Fairview Parking: street parking Staff: very sweet and nice, we were helped by Priscilla and Crispino. Both were very patient and nice. Wait time: none, arrived @9, however about 30 minutes I. It did get packed and a wait line started Seating: both indoor and outdoor Price: average-high Drink: went for cafe de olla, it was delicious, you Cana taste the canela kick, also you get refills included! Yay! Also had a side delicious cookie. We also tried the perfumado and it was too sweet for us. Food: went for chilaquiles, they were delicious, soft but with a bit of crunch, salsa was perfect spice, blended with sour cream and cheese. Comes with 2 eggs on the side. A friend saw this on social media so we decided to try it. It's hard to find a close parking. The place itself might have 4/5 parkings spots. They will be taken so you'll have to find parking in the neighborhood. The place is pretty busy and the wait is long. We were told the wait was 1.5 hours. But since we said call us with next available table we got called a little earlier than said. I can't judge the meals as I came for the sweet bread. They were very delish! I totally recommend. The inside of the restaurant is pretty tiny so some are seated outside (not good when it's hot). Overall though, it's a cute restaurant with some tasty desserts and sweetbread. read more
Loved this cute little place! The food is amazing!!! We started off with chicken mole tamale, then I had a chicken caldo, then a raspberry muffin with their milk coffee. My dad had the wevos a la Mexicana, which he loved and approved all the food! The silverware and decore reminded him of Mexico. read more
The parking situation is what you can expect in Montrose, not great. We got lucky that it was a week day and they weren't busy so we found parking quickly and were able to choose where we sat. The waitress was nice enough and she answered our questions about the menu. The restaurant is very cute inside, their decor is seasonal and currently they're decorated for Día De Los Muertos with paper cempasúchil flowers hung from the ceiling and fresh ones on each table. Very pretty! They have an assortment of, what I assume is fresh pan dulce every day at the counter and they also sell artesanías which I believe the owner brings back from Cdmx. Overall the vibe of the restaurant is super cute. The downside of the restaurant is by far the food. I ordered their chilaquiles of the week, which were creamy jalapeño this week. The sauce was just okay it was more spicy than it was flavorful, I'm sure it's made fresh but it honestly tasted like it was store bought sauce. I love chilaquiles but these were definitely a disappointment. My friend ordered their poblano enchiladas and they had a decent flavor but she ended up asking for a side of the creamy jalapeño sauce from my chilaquiles to give them a kick. I'd maybe recommend trying them once for the aesthetic and cute vibes. read more

Food was good but I wish I would've came out hot. The coffee was to die for, I loved the mocha coffee. We went on a Sunday probably around two there wasn't much of a line and they have outside seating and the weather is so beautiful that people were sitting outside . Cute restaurant in an unassuming area! Got the picadita grande and added avocado to it. Giving 3 stars mainly cause the dish was overpriced for the quantity and quality. Dish was good, but not worth paying $20 plus for. However the restaurant was really cute, locally owned and reminded me of Mexico City! read more
Came to this place after eating at Cuchara. We were gonna get dessert there, but just remembered that they opened a bakery just down the road. After a short walk under the blazing heat, we finally make it to the bakery. The place was packed and there was a wait so we decided to get to go. As you walk in you immediately notice the cute decor. The pastries are displayed by the cashier and they all looked beautiful. My wife and I decided to share a pastry that had raspberry crème filling. As we were walking out, we noticed that they also serve food - probably explains the wait. The pastry we got was good, but nothing to write home about. For a $8 pastry, I really wanted to be wowed. Honestly, I don't think it was worth the price. Overall, I might give them another shot on a day that they're not super packed and maybe I'll have a better experience. read more

It was a wonderful time here! The ambience, the service, and quality were so exceptional!! You really feel like you are having an authentic experience filled with so much flavor. Fantastic. You can taste the freshness in everything. The caldo de pollo is filling and homey, comfort food that reminded me of my childhood. I took my youngest, 9yo. He is very picky, and even he described the tamal de pollo en mole as one of the best tamales he has ever had. He practically inhaled it. The service was prompt and friendly. The food here was very yummy and I have been to cuchara as well and the food is also great there. This place is small but it's very cute and is nice for brunch. The decor was really cute and the service was really great as well. I had the picadita grande and the cinco leches waffle and it was all super tasty!! The mimosas were really good too and it was fresh squeezed OJ. I would for sure go here again for brunch. There's no parking lot so you have to find parking on the street and there may be a wait because it's a small place and very popular so plan ahead but definitely try it out! read more
