My family and I love TJ birria tacos! We are returning customers and if it weren't for the distance we would be back more often. Birriadillas and birria ramen are our go to's. Space isn't too big or small, no outdoor seating, fast and good service. You order first then go sit down. Food is on a tray and you out tray up as you finish. Definitely recommend trying if you haven't yet! They have been here for several years and their quality in food is consistent.
Fire tacos man. Love the quesabirria and the street tacos are perfect. Really good service and friendly staff. Been here twice already.
Came here on an early Sunday afternoon I have never dined in here. I've only had food to go. My sister is a big fan of this place and did say it's changed quite a bit since she's been there and the renovations look nice. I had a Cadillac margarita with tajin on the rim it was really good. You can tell they make their own mix and I must say it was strong. My sister ordered the queso for the appetizer I wouldn't get it again. It was kind of watery. We both ordered birria tacos. She said they' weren't as good as past visits. They were a little dry this time and I've definitely had better but it was still good to me. The service was great and we found out they have a happy hours so we definitely want to come back to see what their happy hour is about.

Terrible food quality. 1st plate not pictured because I returned it immediately after finding a hair in my taco. We were regulars since 2023 when it was "TJ Birria". Great for them to expand the space but at what cost? The food and salsa quality went down. Puddles of OIL, overflowing from the plates, quesadillas were left as is. Also in what world are these plates functional??? Burritos are no longer grilled. Salsa containers changed and have no flavor whatsoever. The increased prices were insane. I hope this review reaches the right team. And hope they make improvement, specifically with the use of OIL. I will miss this place.
The Birria was good, the items came out pretty quickly since we stopped in for a late lunch and it kept me full for dinner. The restaurant was well kept and the service was good.

Very nice place to eat delicious birria they made a renovation of the place and now it really has a good atmosphere the food was really good like always, service was friendly and the order was made fast.
They've changed the concept around but they're still serving the same menu and it's flexible. I got the street tacos and I wanted three instead of five and they were able to accommodate. Food took a while to come out so I waited. I was sitting at the bar waiting for my food and it took around 15 minutes to get it out. Food was really good though!
Stopped by La Cocina de TJ and finally got to try their birria! I had the birria plate while my husband went all in with a little assortment--tostadas, quesabirria, and tacos. The birria itself was good (I wasn't absolutely wild about it, but still solid), but what really stood out for me were the aguas frescas. I had the Jamaica and it was soooo refreshing, and my husband's watermelon agua was straight-up fire. The vibe here is fast-paced, almost like Mexican fast food in the best way possible. You get your food quick, it's flavorful, and the staff is genuinely nice. I really like the concept and honestly wish they had more business--places like this deserve the love for how good, fast, and welcoming they are. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving something quick, flavorful, and casual!

This place is TRASH My wife and I came from 45 minutes away to give this place a try, and keep in mind, their hours say 8AM-9PM.... We came, the establishment was open, no one greeted us and we sat down. My wife had to go to the back to see if anyone would help us. A young kid comes out and says we could sit anywhere, and then almost immediately, a crosseyed lady comes and says "WE DONT OPEN TILL 11am" Wtf?!?!?!?!?' So we decided to try this place because it had 4.4 stars are reviews were decent. Mind you SoCal girl here so when I ordered the chicharron with guacamole I expected REAL chicharron and guacamole. The chips were those fake ones out of the bag and the guacamole was some premade packaged stuff. Highly disappointed. Ordered the birria tacos. Was really hoping this place was more authentic. The meat was tender but no real flavor. Red onion instead of white which throws off the flavor, not 100% sure but tasted like mozzarella cheese vs a Oaxaca cheese. Also got the Horchata agua fresca, also tasted like a premix, no cinnamon or anything. I can say the service was good. Kid working the tables was nice, cleaned the table. Overall for the price and quality, wouldn't come again. read more

Servers were incredibly nice but took a minute to take orders and get waters and food. Mango margarita had strong mango flavor. Ribeye tacos and shrimp tacos were great as well as the chicharones and enmoladas. Would return. read more

Finally had a chance to stop by this place - glad they survived the crazy Durham construction. Order at the counter with their friendly staff. I'm a sucker for trendy options, so I ordered this birria ramen combo that I recalled seeing on social media. A hefty portion of beef birria ramen is served alongside two birria tacos, chopped onion, cilantro, and lime. Certainly left full! Felt like it was flavorful (I'm not authenticity expert) and I really enjoyed it. Would go back to try other items on their menu. Located on Durham in the Northern Heights, TJ Birria Y Mas comes pretty highly rated. There is parking right in front, which is nice. Service is minimal; you order food at the front and get your food Torchy's style. The ambiance inside is very casual; think Chipotle. Their menu is written on the wall; I got the sampler of sorts featuring birria. Also got an order of chilaquiles for the table. The chilaquiles and chips were a bit underwhelming; the sauces were bland and the chips were slightly stale and the dish was lacking flavor. The birria combo sampler was pretty solid; the meat was well cooked, the quesadilla had quality cheese and the extra onions and cilantro on the side were a nice add. Overall, a pretty solid spot, and I haven't tried most of their menu, including their street tacos. Stick with the main hitters and avoid the appetizers and brunch items. read more

Respectable birria but, my NYE goal was to find the best - which means competition has been tough! I would definitely go again if in the area but, would not drive out of my way for them. I wished for more flavorful meat and a bit more cheese. Solid overall but, have had tastier examples over the course of the year. read more
Very welcoming staff, good service and quality food! It had been three years since my last visit! The restaurant has expanded, but you still get the warm neighborhood type vibe. There are also a couple of small tables outside for two. Try the chicken burrito which was a 10/10 and the birriadillas con consome was a 8/10. The only reason I rated the birriadillas a 8 is because the consome wasn't as flavorful as I remembered it to be. read more

I came here craving the birriadillas after a long week. It was a night for staying in so I got my food takeout. Although I came close to closing, they seemed eager to serve me. The cashier even made some fun conversation as she was taking my order. The wait was short, only about ten minutes, and the food smelled sooo good. The birriadillas are chock full of flavorful birria and oodles of cheese. I will say that the tortilla was a bit soggy by the time I got home but that was probably unavoidable. The consommé was delicious, so flavorful and yummy. Of course the cilantro and chopped onion added a great flavor to the birriadillas. I will be back again especially considering how reasonable the price is, 12 dollars for a whole meal of birria. I also got a beef quesadilla which came with lettuce and tomato and my bf loved it. read more

Ambiance: Small eatery serving tacos & Mexican cuisine with a fun ambiance! This was my first time trying Birria tacos - so good! Paired nicely with a Mexican Coke. Quick and friendly service. Limited parking onsite. Great spot for a quick bite or to-go order. They have really yummy sauces! Decent pricing, would go back for lunch if in The Heights area. Do note that Durham & Shepherd are under construction, but it is still easy to park at TJ Birria. read more

Loved the birria tacos, and the salsa was so good. The service staff was nice and the food came out quick. The eating space is more like a fast food place, but it's enough to fit the whole family. I had the birria tacos, and they were sooo good. It was filling because it had alot of tacos for the price. read more

We found this place on a whim while driving to Houston. Total chance appearance. But we were very happy! Food was good We shared the birria plate With fresh cilantro onions and lime Juju had a quesadilla and was very happy Chips wee fresh Juju loved the huge piece of tres leches cake Service was great-they greeted us and were cleaning up the tables constantly Man from the kitchen came and greeted multiple tables asking how they were doung Ambiance was nice Soft neon Chalk board menus High and low tables Clean Bathrooms too Very busy night! Based on my experience, all of the positive reviews are 100% accurate. This is a nice spot for good food. I ordered the Burria Deluxe! The food was so delicious. At first glance, I thought this meal was only enough for a small appetizer, but it satisfied my hunger throughout the night. It took less than 10 minutes to get our food. I wasn't expecting it to be ready so fast. I love the decor and layout. The staff were so friendly and professional. Excellent customer service. This was my first time eating here and I'll definitely be returning. Great job! read more
