Reached out to Sam and he told me to buy a battery on Amazon or eBay, and they will charge labor to change the battery. Dropped off the battery and laptop, battery replacement completed in 30 minutes or so. Save me some money and buy me may be 2-3 years with the laptop. Straight forward, no BS. Good Pricing. Good communication. Somehow Yelp is not showing his new address, and his website has not updated it yet also. New location is 7710 Balboa Ave. on the third floor. (I think it's #309?)

it was a pleasure to be serviced by mark…read more he took care of my old iPhone (se2), prescribing a solution and disclosing a competitive price before service began. overall service took about 20 min in and out. i actually came while he was occupied with a client offsite (which is at no point a fault at all), and decided to wait until he got back, and he was professional in handling the compensation. mark is very accommodating, offering me a beverage while i waited, and giving me a ride home since i ubered to the store. we had small talk during the drop off and it is clear that he is an earnest man. i made sure to tip him for the experience, and i am completely satisfied with the experience at pcs connection.

I took the phone to PCS connection, always look them up for my electronics needs even when they were on convoy. In and out in 20 minutes, new battery and old phone has new repurposed life. Checked out their website, then gave them a call about cleaning up my Mac before my vacation. I put it off to the last minute and wasn't sure they could help. Luckily, they could help me, and the rush fee was $100. I love that fact they picked up the phone and it wasn't some dead doornail employee who could care less about my computer issue. Chris, the owner, actually answered the phone. He said to bring it down. I came in that same day and he told me they would: clean it up, install new OS, remove junk, and speed it up overall. He quoted me end of the week, but it was ready sooner, so happy about because it would be ready for vacation. Total came out to about $430 with the rush fee. It's been about 6 weeks now and my computer is running amazing, so fast! They also have refurbished Macs for sale, which I'll be back for when my current computer stops working. Super 5 Stars for DC Computers! They care about their business and customers. So glad I found them.

Unlike the positive experience that most people here apparently had, I had an overall unpleasant…read moreexperience with San Diego Computer Consultants/The Chip Merchant. My bottom line impression of SDCC is that they are fine if you know nothing about computers and want something simple done, but that their level of expertise is intermediate - not wizard-level - and that they are lost with complex problems. A few weeks ago, I borked my three-month old Win8 computer by hard booting it. I eventually found a self-diagnostic text file that said that the master boot record needed to be rebuilt. It also seemed that Windows/DOS had suddenly lost the ability to see most of my hard drive's approximately 600 GB of music, pictures, and files, so it might need to have the File Allocation Table rebuilt as well. Having dealt with trying to repair a crippled Win8 installation before, I knew that Microsoft had closed off many of the avenues that previous versions of Windows had for an amateur like me to try to get in there and fix things. So, I thought to myself, "Perhaps it's best not to waste time trying ... bummer that it'll cost a hundred dollars or two, but I'll take it to experts, and they'll know what to do to get it working again". I saw that SDCC had a sizable number of five star reviews here on Yelp, so I thought that they would be trustworthy place to get the work done. I tried to ignore the one or two star reviews, and also the review that had started with few stars but revised themselves higher after feedback from Jorge (the SDCC owner?). When I dropped my computer off, the tech at the register who was friendly and reassuring. I specifically told him that what I was hoping they would be able to do was get Windows working again, and also restore my missing files. As I left, I felt nervous, but guardedly optimistic that they would be able to help me out. A couple days later, a tech named Alex called, and cheerily told me that that my computer was now ready to be picked up, since he had reinstalled Windows. I was devastated. Reinstalling Windows meant that there was no chance of repairing my old installation of Windows, and so I had lost all of my installed software, all of my configurations, all the files that I did not have backed up, and the two weeks of work I had done since the last time I had backed up most of my files To my mind, reinstalling the operating system is a last resort, something one does after trying all other means of repair and admitting defeat. It's also something I know how to do, and don't need to pay an "expert" to do for me. Alex not only did not call and ask me if I wanted this step done, he assumed that I had no files to restore, and that it was safe to wallpaper over the missing files with a new Windows installation; somehow, the message that I had missing files that I wanted recovered was not passed on to him. I suspect that Alex did not even try to rebuild my master boot record or file allocation table, or know how, and I suspect that he made no effort towards any other method of repairing my windows before doing the simplest but most destructive of all possible repair options, a reinstall. To Alex's credit, he had copied the disk's surface to an external drive before reinstalling Windows, and he offered to copy this disk image back to my computer if I wanted. And, also to his credit, he was patient with me being angry on the phone (to some extent, I admit that I was taking out on him my frustration with losing my installation and my files). I appreciated that he apologized a couple times for not calling to check in with me before reinstalling Windows. My computer was then apparently passed on to a tech named Rick, whose job it was to look for my missing files and try to restore them from the copied external disk image. Alas, this challenge was apparently beyond his skills and his tools' abilities. I asked him to guess what had gone wrong with my Windows installation and why he was unable to restore my files, and, in both cases, he kept simply repeating that Windows and/or my files were "too corrupted". I asked him to be more technically specific, but he was either unwilling or unable to give me any more insightful of an answer. To Alex and Rick's credit (and this is why I am giving a two star review, rather than a one star), my bill at this point was zero dollars. Since they were unable to help me, they did not charge for the considerable time that they had put in trying. I then asked Rick to leave the Windows reinstallation on my computer's hard drive, and to make me an external drive with an image of my computer's drive before the reinstall. He told me that this would take two days. It wasn't until six days later, however, and two phone calls from me, that Rick finally let me know that my computer and this new drive were ready for pickup. All in all, my experience with SDCC was a frustrating one.

After taking my then 3 year old MAC BOOK PRO (bought new for $2,300) to Direct Tech I thought it was strange that 2 of the screws were left out of the bottom panel, but I let it go. A little over a year went by and the computer began giving me a lot of trouble, so a son said he'd go to the Apple store and have it fixed....nirvana! Dan left the computer with Apple at 3:00 in the afternoon and was told to pick it up at 8pm. When he came back that evening he was told Apple couldn't touch it as it has an aftermarket hard drive........good-bye warranty! Shock!!!! Looking over old bills, I found that they had taken out my Apple hard drive and replaced it with a REFURBISHED (meaning USED) hard drive. We went to see Direct Tech and of course they claimed that they asked me first. I know myself and I NEVER, EVER WOULD HAVE APPROVED A REFURBISHED PART for my lovely, relatively new computer. Of course the used part failed after a year and another hard drive had to be put in. (another 200+ bill) In all my 20 plus years of dealing with computers, I have ALWAYS been offered the used part. When we asked Direct Tech where my Apple Hard Drive was they claimed it was so bad they had to destroy it......! As a writer, I use my computer mainly as a word processor and for emails. It doesn't get hard use at all. Perhaps being a little old lady (yes, in tennis shoes) they might have thought that the USED HD would outlast me and no-one would know the difference.......just saying. Beyond sad....

The first thing to note about Crywolf Inc. is that while they are an official Apple repair partner, their service charges are significantly higher than Apple's own. This would have been fine if they were transparent about it, but this crucial information was not clearly communicated to me as a customer. I was initially excited to discover that Crywolf Inc. was an official Apple repair partner, as this gave me a sense of confidence in their abilities to handle Apple products. However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I was hit with a $180 charge just for diagnostics. This was a surprise as Apple itself does not charge for diagnostics. It felt like a hidden fee that I was not prepared for, and it immediately put a dent in my experience with Crywolf Inc. Additionally, Crywolf Inc. claims that the $180 diagnostic fee will go toward the total repair cost. But in reality, it seems to only add to the total cost of the repair. This seems misleading and adds to the overall negative experience. To add insult to injury, Crywolf Inc.'s labor charges are almost double that of Apple's. While Apple charges $100 per hour, Crywolf Inc. charges nearly twice as much. I believe this is an unfair practice, especially since the customer is not made aware of these differences in prices before choosing to have their devices repaired at Crywolf Inc. through Apple's website. To make matters worse, the customer service experience was less than satisfactory. I dealt with a technician named Gail, who displayed a lack of empathy and an inability to effectively communicate or understand my concerns. This resulted in my issues not being addressed properly, and in the end, he abruptly ended the call, leaving me feeling frustrated and unheard. In conclusion, while Crywolf Inc. might be an official Apple repair partner, their high service fees, lack of transparency about costs, and poor customer service make them a less than ideal choice for Apple product repairs. I believe it's essential for customers to be aware of these discrepancies in prices compared to Apple itself before they decide to bring their devices to this repair center. read more

This is the place to go to get your questions answered! I have bought 5 Macs at Crywolf. They know their stuff! I never feel like I am being hustled or upsold. They listen to my questions, wants and needs, and are able to give honest advice, even if it means they won't sell a computer that day. I refer my friends and clients to them also and have heard nothing but rave reviews! My go-to guy there is Bill Wright. He knows me and my computers. I have found their service to be quick and reasonable also, I had a new hard drive replaced a last year, and because they know I need my computer for work, they were able to turn it around within 2 days. I highly recommend them, I much prefer their personal service over the hustle of an Apple store or a Big Box store. read more

I had crashed my HD on my MacBook Pro. Apple tried to recover but were unsuccessful and gave me two other resources which could possibly help, one was out of town and the other was Crywolf on Clairemont Mesa Bl. Bill Wright, was the Tech that I had the pleasure of working with. I found him and the entire staff to be extremely knowledgeable, courteous, friendly and willing to help by giving you several options. Long story short, they were able to recover all my files, installed a 500GB HD for a lesser price than the previous 250GB HD and all this work was performed in less than 3 days!!! My iMac hard drive failed and Crywolf promptly replaced it, added some RAM, and did a data transfer all in 3-4 days. Today I phoned Sean regarding an issue I had with Apple Mail. He stopped what he was doing and diagnosed my problem over the phone & online in about 20 minutes at no charge. I can't say enough good things about Crywolf. They know their stuff! read more

Monday night, my Macbook Pro had a video card meltdown. Took the machine in on Tuesday, found that it was "covered" under the Apple repair and had it back Thursday morning. I'm a long time Mac user and had a problem with Word (Mac's version). I went to the Microsoft store and they couldn't figure it out. I went to the Apple store and they didn't address Microsoft problems. So I went to Crywolf and they handled the difficulty with ease. Shawn is great. They were personable and professional. Also, it just seemed slow when I tried to open a pages document. Maddening. I told him I know nothing about computers and that I wanted it to work the way it always had since I bought it. He told me he would have to reinstall the operating system. What do I know? I said sure. Even now while typing, the computer stops typing every so often and I have to wait about 15 - 30 seconds for my computer to catch up and print my words. Continuing with my sad tale of woe. I came back the next day and paid him $170. Unfortunately when I got home the computer was not the same. To start with my desktop did not have any of the documents I had saved to it and there were other problems. So I called him and I asked him why he returned my computer to me when it was not the same computer I brought into him. He said I could put everything back on the desktop and he started to rattle off what I needed to do. Ridiculous! I stopped him and reminded him that I said I was tech challenged and did not feel competent to do that. His response was for another $70. he would put my desktop back the way it was. Outrageous that he would half fix my computer, return it to me not the way I gave it to him and then he wanted to charge me more. So I foolishly paid him and the next day my desktop was what it used to be. However, there remained other problems such as my Passkey not working but decided, rather than call him, to call Apple support and they were able to resolve these several issues. Here it is 2 -3 weeks later and I am again having the same problems with the ball and the cursor freezing throughout the day. Also, my computer is being very slow to open my Pages documents. The very same problems he supposedly fixed when he reinstalled my operating system. For sure I will not let Mr. Chip touch my machine again but I will take it to a repair shop that I have used before. The only reason I didn't use them this time is they were backed up and said they couldn't get to my computer for at least 2 days. I should have shown patience and waited. My bad!

Though the whole process took a little longer than expected (because my situation was a bit more complicated), I got back probably 99% of the stuff i wanted and 110% of the stuff I deleted a long time ago. Rather than upselling me on a brand-new and pricey rebuild, Shannon cloned all of my data over from my current hard drive, put it on a new hard drive, and upgraded me to Windows 11. And through sheer determination, Shannon also fixed my reboot time -- it went from 2.5 hours down to under a minute. This was without a doubt a hugely time-consuming and frustrating process, but Shannon and his team went above and beyond to diagnose and repair it. I absolutely recommend Shannon and SD Bytes if you need a repair or an upgrade or a rebuild or something brand new. You won't find a more competent and honest team in San Diego!
