Great chicken salad!!
Michael M.

I've been hearing so many great things about CRUST!! CAFE. I have a family member who works here and finally got the chance to get over to the South Hills to try the menu. We placed an order and when I arrived to pick up the order, the parking lot was jammed with cars!! This is always a good sign. I loved the ambiance of the inside with a huge chalkboard listing the menu and specials. I have not been to a restaurant this busy on a Saturday in a long time. Even though they were so busy all of our food was done exactly when they said it would be! The girls at the counter were so nice I really enjoyed talking to them about the menu!! I said hi to my family but he had to get right back at it because they were so busy. For our order we had a white pizza with tomato, a half cheese half pepperoni, bread bites, a chicken salad and I had a steak and cheese pizza on a gluten free cauliflower crust. It was so so good!! Everything was great and I recommend this wonderful pizza place 10/10!! The prices are reasonable and the quality is exceptional!! Thank you CRUST!!

Friendly staff. Lunch hour specials. The chicken poblano soup was very tasty. Pizza is good with a nice crust.

Take and bake pizza for the win! We've ordered take and bake pizza from Crust recently and we will return again soon. The menu is large. Lots of options. We've done standard pizzas, the Sicilian (deep dish) pizza and specialty pizzas (ie the Maui Wowie and BBQ Chicken). While all of them were very good - I was particularly fond of the Sicilian. The deep, thick crust baked perfectly in our oven - I have to say I was genuinely angry at myself for only ordering a small (four cut). A couple of tips: - The parking lot is small be patient. - The staff clearly works very hard, but I have always had to wait a few minutes (10 minutes) past the stated pick-up time. I think - especially for take-and-bake - give it a few extra minutes. And be cool if your pizza takes a few extra minutes to be ready - its great quality and, again, the staff is clearly working hard. - If you have flexibility in your schedule consider ordering and picking up before the rush/dinner hour. Parking will be easier and you can store the unbaked pies in your fridge.

This is a small little family feeling pizza joint in the south hills .. lot of take out business but there are a few nice tables inside that you can eat in...they have a good loyal customer base - you can tell when you go in and how they interact with their customers What's good? Pretty much everything we try. Last night we got pizza, steak salad, buffalo chicken salad and their yummy chili ( yes chili). We have also tried the wedges and wings and yes they also have wedding soup! The pizza has a good ratio of sauce and cheese and love the sprinkle of cheese on the crust! The ranch is homemade and so yummy and the chili has the right amount of heat to want to have another bowl. Now for the people. The crew is super friendly and helpful. One of the reasons ( besides the good food) that we go back Back here for yet another great pizza night! We had chili, Sicilian and buffalo chicken. All were delicious! Parking lot was packed tonight so it was "stacked up".... but the staff is great and the pizza is always good! We took BYOB tonight which you are allowed to do !

Extra large Sicilian w pepperoni. Wow wow wow.

The space is nicely decorated and well thought through, with some food travel content playing on a screen in the background in case you need to be distracted for a few minutes and wait for your order. The staff and owner seem very dedicated to delivering a high quality experience, even during a dinner rush with a refreshing number of orders passing through. In terms of the food, I switched up a few things and tried some different items this time. The tod mun was interesting and worth a try. My understanding is that it's pretty classic Thai street food: fried fish fritters/cakes with dipping sauce. The tom yum soup was maybe a quarter step back from what I remember, but a squeeze of lime fixed that. The kra pao seafood was interesting and worth a try, but not life changing. The Panang curry was deeply flavorful with extremely fresh ingredients. I continue to believe that this is one of the best Thai restaurants in the region, and there's quite a bit of competition out there. Maybe not the absolute best, but it's absolutely in the running.

This is a bit out of the way for us City dwellers, but it was absolutely worth the trip. From the moment we walked in, the lively atmosphere and energy of the place grabbed us. Such a great vibe, with the owners doing their thing and the staff bustling around making everything happen. We started with the trio of dips: hummus, feta, and tzatziki, served with olives and their delicious pita. Then came the spanakopita, which is definitely shareable, especially with a little salad on the side. And because every good brunch needs something sweet, we ordered the loukoumades. Savory + sweet = the perfect combination! Everything was just good!.......fresh, flavorful, satisfying, and exactly what you want when you're out celebrating. And of course, we couldn't leave empty-handed. We took home a loaf of raisin sourdough, which may have been the best decision of the day. A lively spot, wonderful food, great owners, and a staff that clearly keeps things moving. Anthos, I'm already looking forward to the next visit!

I decided to stop into my local Piada location after seeing a Facebook event intended to celebrate…read morethe launch of their new Innovation Kitchen menu. Being that I would be in the area on this day, and the fact that I cannot resist a good giveaway, I decided to stop up for lunch to take part. Piada Italian Street Food is a fast-casual chain featuring pastas, wraps, salads, bowls, and more. They have locations in 6 states, including 4 in the greater Pittsburgh region. This specific location opened in the fall of 2021, servicing the South Hills area. This exact location is on N Highland Road, just off of the main Washington Road. It sits in a corner storefront within Normal Centre II, along with several other stores and businesses. The shopping complex has a private parking lot, and is accessible via both Washington Road and N Highland Road. I am not certain if this is located in Bethel Park or Upper St. Clair officially, as it sits right near the border. It is also just up the road from the South Hills Village Mall, for a point of reference. Navigating to here is relatively simple. There is naturally a lot of traffic all around, given the high concentration of stores and restaurants in this area. However, the shopping complex has a taller road sign that lists out each business, so you will see a sign for Piada from the road. The parking lot was a little busy, given that my visit was around 11:00 AM on a weekday. However, I was able to get a spot very close to the Piada entrance. I have never visited this complex and not been able to find a parking spot, though you might have to park a little further away than you desire at peak times. When I went inside, there were a few other customers already there, but it was nothing overwhelming. I was greeted upon entering, and enjoyed the balloons and other decorations they had put up for their new menu launch celebration. It was very clean and neat inside overall. I took a few minutes to look over the new menu that was debuting this day. It did not seem too different from what I remembered having in the past, but I did notice that all prices were $10 for the Pastas, Piadas, and Salads. This appealed to me from the start, as at these places when items are al a carte, your entree can add up quickly. Having a set price of $10 is very appealing, and makes me want to come back here more frequently. After deciding on my order, I made my way into the line and up to the ordering counter. It is a similar style to Chipotle, where there is a bar and your meals are built in front of you with the various ingredients as you make your way down the line. For hot items, they cook those and then bring them back up to the line. For my meal on this visit, I ended up choosing the Avocado Chop Salad. This comes in a huge bowl filled with fresh vegetables and mix-ins. It could definitely be enough for two meals. I took it home with me to have later, but I very much enjoyed it when I got to eat. I am a sucker for a gigantic, fresh, colorful salad, and this was just that. I can't believe I forgot to take a picture of it, but you will have to take my word on this one! The service this day was quick and friendly! There were a lot of staff members there, presumably for the menu launch/event, but they were all on top of it and made sure everyone was taken care of. I appreciate their efforts and quality of service. Definitely thought the value was there for my visit this time. Not that this was not a good value before, but being that the entrees are now $10, it is worth it that much more to come here. It would be hard to beat the value at this price, given the quality and freshness of the ingredients. I would recommend stopping here based on the value alone. Another value-add is the rewards program. You can access this on their app or through the website. There are different tier levels based on points earned, and you can trade in your points for different foods, drinks, and money off of your order. They also send some random rewards sometimes, such as a $5 off coupon. It is worth signing up if you find yourself coming here even somewhat regularly. After checking out, we got the chance to spin the prize wheel for a shot at several different items - a speaker, free Piada entrees for a year, a cooler, Steeler tickets, and other prizes as well. I ended up getting a couple coupons for free entrees, which I will for sure be back to use. As I said, I always love a giveaway and appreciate restaurants like this giving back to their customer base every now and then. Had a positive and fun experience at Piada for the launch of their Innovation Kitchen menu! I am glad I stumbled across this event on my Facebook and was able to make it out. My food was tasty, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, I thought the value was awesome, and then the giveaways were a cherry on top. I recommend giving any Piada location a try if you find yourself near one, but especially this one in the South Hills!

I have previously heard of Truss and seen them around the community at different events, but was excited to finally try them at their storefront. Truss Brewing Company is located in Pleasant Hills, just off of Route 51. This building has been other businesses throughout the years before Truss took over. It is clearly marked and easy to locate. There is a private parking lot in the rear, but they will have it closed off and filled with tables during the summer months. However, there are other lots and parking options surrounding the building along Old Clairton if this is the case when you visit. We arrived just after 7:00, and the place was packed! They had the back parking lot closed off for seating, but luckily we found a spot right in front. There is no indoor seating here, as they advertise the business to be take-out only. Therefore, you can order online or through some delivery services if you truly are taking the order to-go. However, if you are "dining in," you can order at the counter inside. They will give you an order number, and then call the order number outside for you to come retrieve. First, we made our way inside to place an order. There was a decent line that went out the door, but we made it through that in about 10 minutes. Ordering was straight-forward, as the menu is not terribly long. For the beers, there were some different size options. Also, they sold reusable cans, crowlers, growlers, and mini kegs that can be brought back and refilled. In addition to the made-to-order food and beer, there are some snacks, grocery items, non-alcoholic drinks, and merchandise all for sale. After placing our order, we made our way to the back parking lot to find some seating. As stated, there was a live band performing and the place was pretty full. However, we did manage to get a table. There were picnic-style tables, as well as some bar-height seating. I also saw some patrons bring their own lawn chairs, so that is an option as well! The atmosphere outside was very lively. The music was good, there were a lot of groups socializing and having a good time, and there were some yard games set up on the one side of the lot. Definitely a nice spot to bring the family or meet up with some friends if the weather is nice. The wait from ordering to when we got our food was about 30 minutes. I know the food is prepared in-house, and is not generic restaurant pre-made-type food, so this is reasonable considering that. My fiance and I split a few dishes between us. We ordered the Chilled Colossal Shrimp, the Big Fat "Wings," and the Wood Fries Parm Crusted. The Chilled Colossal Shrimp came with 5 and a nice dipping sauce. I love cold shrimp, so this was my favorite dish. The Big Fat "Wings" are chicken drumsticks prepared like wings. Since it is a different cut, you get a lot of meat for your money. We ordered them with the buffalo sauce on the side as well. They were tasty, and again, a great way to make your dollar stretch for a lot of meat! The Wood Fries Parm Crusted are unique, as they are very thick cut. It is probably over a whole potato's worth of fries, so plenty to share. My fiance loves thick-cut fries like this, so he thought these were great. We enjoyed the food overall! For my beer, I ordered the Mortar, which is an American Brown Ale. I usually prefer a brown/red/amber-type of pour, so this was right up my alley. It was a nice sipper to have throughout the night. In terms of value, I think some items have a much better value than others. Specifically, I thought the fries and the chicken were very much worth the money. I personally did not order a pizza this trip, but some of those seemed to be slightly expensive to me personally. Despite that, you can make it worth your dollar depending on what you order and what you are looking for most. Since this place is take-out only, I truly did not have a ton of interaction with the staff, except for when I put my order in. I had no issues regarding this, though I feel as though I did not have enough interaction to make a comment on this aspect of the trip either way. Likely due to all of the seating being outside, the business is dog-friendly! We brought our dog, and he enjoyed socializing with the patrons and many other dogs who were there as well. This was a great place to spend a sunny August evening! I enjoyed the beer, food, and atmosphere at Truss. We loved the live music, and learned on this trip that they regularly hold a trivia night and other events as well. The only downside is that this experience is seasonal, and weather-dependent. However, the food and beer are available year-round, so you can give that a try anytime. I would recommend checking this place out with the warmer months quickly approaching!
