I thought this pizza was very well balanced personally. There was definitely less cheese than most other pizza places, but with the crust and sauce I didn't mind at all. The crust was soft and pillowy while still having a nice crispness to it. The sauce was bold and balanced so well with the cheese. I further enjoyed the overall pizza flavor of the pepperoni with the sauce and mushroom with the sauce and how that flavor combo complimented the cheese all together. The toppings were thoughtfully portioned, with nothing overpowering. There was just enough of everything to create great pizza flavor without feeling heavy. It wasn't overly oily, but it wasn't dry or lacking richness either. Overall, the flavor, texture, and balance made this an easy-to-eat pizza that I would happily order again. read more

I wanted to do a little review of this place and hopefully give them more business in return and satisfy my curiosity. I called and said I'd like to buy a variety of pizzas so I proceeded to order later come to find out the only make simple topping pizzas for the mini pies. So i couldn't get the topping I wanted endless I got a bigger size even though pizza was just for me and all I was asking for was some banana peppers. That being said no said I would have just got the regular pizza until the guy I was speaking to became extremely snooty and rude. Mario's Pizza is our FAV pizza in the burgh. They have the BEST ranch, we always order at least 4 extra! We get a large pizza with EXTRA cheese, pepperoni and jalapeños. Once home we top it with some Melinda's pizza hot sauce and red pepper flakes. The fresh Mario wings are crispy and filling with a ton meat. The Hot Buffalo is the perfect temperature for anyone who likes some spice! Not only there wings and pizza but there Italian hoagie is also our absolute favorite! We add banana peppers to it for an additional topping. They are always fast on the delivery - although we do live less than 5 minutes away, there service is always excellent! Recently I've been branching out from my normal go-to's for pizza and trying different shops in my area. Mario's Pizza was my latest stop on my "tour"...and it was admittedly a mixed bag of an experience. The food itself was actually quite good. The chicken salad came with a sizable layer of fries and also used spinach rather than iceberg lettuce; very tasty all around. I got a small personal pizza that I customized with meatballs and ricotta cheese. I personally would have enjoyed a touch more sauce on the pizza, but overall I was pleased with this as well. Finally, there was my latest junk food indulgence: fried zucchini. Mario's delivered a generous portion of this appetizer, and made zucchini "chips" rather than the planks I've been receiving from other pizzerias. I was eating the leftovers from this for a couple of days and loved every bite! As satisfying as the grub was, I had to detract a star from my review due to the less than satisfying delivery experience. I requested contact-free when I placed my order, but the request was not passed along to the driver. Then, when I opened my door to a driver who was not wearing their mask correctly (a way-too-common situation I tried to avoid by asking for contact-free delivery), they told me half of my order had been left at Mario's and they would bring it to me soon. I told them to please do a contact-free delivery whenever they brought my missing items; and fortunately, the rest of my food made it within 20 minutes. Contact-free that time. With all of the above in mind, it will probably be a while before I order from Mario's again. As much as I liked the food, I didn't like that my delivery request and half of my food wasn't passed along to the driver initially. I get that mistakes can happen, but it's 2020 - not respecting the contact-free request is a particularly upsetting mistake, and is enough reason for me to order elsewhere for a bit. (P.S. Absolutely the WORST service. Ordered a pizza for delivery. After 30 minutes beyond delivery time I called the restaurant whose only explanation was "the driver misunderstood the instructions". The instructions were to deliver the pizza!!!! What kind of answer is that. Said he would remake the pizza and deliver it. No offer to refund the money or anything! I want you to be honest and think about if you have ever in your life eaten a gyro. If you did, when you received it was it rolled up like a burrito? Such is the way I received my gyro from Mario's. Almost $8. And the moment I saw it rolled like a burrito I new it was lacking. And here is the proof. I don't like lettuce and tomato. This is why though even with all that onion they were still able to roll it up. There is no gyro meat. I live down the street from here and have eaten here many times over the years. But now I see them raising their prices while they serve you crap food. Anyone in their right mind knows this is a gyro meat sampler with extra pita and not an actual gyro. Mario's is our go-to for a quick office lunch since we are right down the street from them. They are lightning fast most days, and their pizza is one of the better ones around. I like the fluffy crisp crust they offer as I have always been a "crust bubble" fiend. One issue that we have had with them is that they offer gluten free options but are not aware of things that contain gluten. I explained to them that we have a severe gluten allergy (we ordered a salad for that person) and asked that they make sure they do not contain any toppings with gluten, and they added croutons to his salad making it inedible. The croutons were not indicated on the menu so we did not know to tell them to not include them. We had to call and return it, and were met with a little bit of a problem but they did end up bringing it down eventually. That being said, their BLT pizza is awesome. Get it. read more

Ordered the Sicilian pizza last night.. it was great! Chewy crust with yummy sauce, lots of cheese, and generous toppings. We scarfed down the whole thing before I realized I didn't take a picture. Side salad with ranch dressing was fresh and flavorful, though I paid for an extra dressing and did not receive it. Oreo cheesecake slice was (expectedly) not homemade, but darn it was good lol! I got there to pick it up and told the dude that it wasn't what i ordered and his response "well it's what we made" so i has to pay $28 for stuff i didn't order in the first place because he couldn't understand why i was mad so i didn't wanna argue with an idiot. I was so sad that I decided to get the closest pizza to my hotel. It is just terrible. It really wasn't even as good as frozen pizza from the supermarket. The crust was soo bland, burnt, flavorless, gross, and cardboard like texture. Half the pizza had so little cheese and toppings we just slide half the toppings onto the other half just to make edible. I really wanted to eat good food and leave a good review. The Sicilian wasn't at all siciliano. It's a style, not a shape. The square pizza was as thin as any pie hand tossed- not Sicilian style at all, ie THICC. Thin crust and lacking toppings, I really feel ripped off. The staff at the hotel told me just how bad management is there, so not worth complaining as they apparently are jerks..... too bad. We ended up going out instead of just eating this trash. I can't advise strongly enough to not patronize this (establishment). Not one part of this pizza was good. What happened? It used to be great!!! What a difference a year makes. Sad to report that I think the quality has gone down hill! Calzones and rolls are rushed; cooked at a high temp so the outside is almost burnt and the inside dough seems raw. Id rather wait for properly cooked food. This was the case twice this week. Its truly the attitude of the staff that have left a bad taste in my mouth more than the food. The owner is really nice though a few of the staff are ruining it for him. read more

It appears that the miserable Pizza Palazzo has been overpowered and put to rest by the superior Mario's Pizza. A concert I had tickets for was canceled (Danzig at Stage AE), so with a night off as a result, Kay and I figured it was high time we tried Mario's, a place we've been passing a bunch during our travels of late. A special deal got us a whole hoagie, a pizza with one topping, and a dozen chicken wings for one price ($23). The pizza, featuring our chosen topping in bacon, had a crust like a Southside Pretzel; it will strengthen your jaw muscles, let me tell ya. The sauce had the proper amount of sweetness to add some Yum Capital to the pie, and the cheese was generous. The brackishness of the bacon we added played off the honeyed sauce beautifully, reminding this diner that salt and sugar make quite the couple. The garlic wings made me melancholy for each flat and drumette evoked memories of the recently departed George Aiken's chicken chain with their fatty, friable quality. The soft of bun, fresh of vegetable, and slightly light on tuna hoagie was an acceptable filler that barely scores a victory over Subway's version. Yeah, I can see us getting delivery from here often, but Beechview's SLICE on Broadway is a contender as well. I guess we'll have to flip for it, that is unless I keep finding more pizza parlors to review, and there are many left in the 'Burgh. P.S. Surprisingly large and varied menu for a small take-out Pizza shop, thus today's review. We have ordered from Mario's twice this week and the third time within about 2 weeks. In no small part due to the wide menu selections. Of course everything we've gotten has always been good. Well no... REALLY good actually. Delivery is always quick and arrives hot and not disheveled from the road trip. The Pizza has became one of my favorites, the Calzones and Stromboli's are great too, very generous sized and full of the good stuff. not mostly crust. Their pricing is very favorable also, but I can't leave out mentioning the wings - I am wing nut, get them somewhere at least once a week, and Mario's wings have became one of my favorites in the area as well. I don't think you can go wrong ordering from this little local place and they have something for everyone, so there is no reason not to try Mario's. I think you'll be happy you did! read more

I have never stepped foot in this place but it's hands down my favorite pizza place in or around the Robinson area these days. We discovered in GrubHub when they were one of the only places open that was still delivering. Their pizza, calzones, and 'rolls' are baked to perfection. If you ask for something on the side you actually get it. When they estimate your delivery time it's actually delivered during or before that window. My husband and I always try to find pizza places where ever we go and then compare then to our favorite hometown pizza place. No place has ever come close until Mario's! Seriously one of the best pizza places anywhere!! Customer service was awesome. Pizzas arrive piping hot with fresh ingredients! The pizza arrive in less than 30 mins from ordering. This place is near my home and my wife liked it so we continued ordering from here despite my dissatisfaction. No longer though. My wife felt ill after her latest order, chicken salad, so fortunately I will no longer be forced to order from here. While previously there have been no issues with the food I have experienced numerous service issues. One time I was provided with the wrong order and did not realize it till I arrived home after picking it up. The ticket included with the order was correct and I did not want to open everything since it was stapled in the bag. This isn't the worst thing in the world. They were clearly busy and stuff happens. The next time I returned they charged me $10.00 though because the wrong order I received cost more than my order and they indicated I should have notified them my order was incorrect. They are also consistently off on their pick up times. I generally end up standing around for 10 minutes waiting for my order even though I generally arrive 5 - 10 minutes after the expected wait time since it became clear there was no way the food would be ready in that window. My review is 2 stars instead of 1 because their stromboli is delicious. read more
