Moved on to a very very delicious carciofi salad -- this was even better than I expected: great dressing, nice amount of goat cheese and the pistachios added a nice crunch. We ordered the aranchini appetizer which was good. Margherita pizza was well made and hit the spot. Server was prompt and friendly. Seems like a place you can count on for a reliably good pizza night! We didn't see the interior, but the sidewalk-side seating was very nice. I came here with a friend after the Park Slope 5th Avenue fair. My friend had been here before and said that the food was good. For my meal, I got the Caesar salad with chicken and she got the Margherita DOP. We both got the Narragansett lemon shandy. My salad was delicious and my friend enjoyed her pizza. She loved how fresh the cheese tasted. Our server came by our table to let us know that they were short staffed so there might be a wait for the food. That was okay. I actually liked that she came over to let us know. The restaurant has outdoor seating and a lot of space inside--can accommodate groups. We grabbed a table by the window facing 6th avenue. Sidewalk seating wraps around the corner. Menus and tap water were set down right away. Drinks included a Peroni and the 'Cool as a Cucumber' made with vodka, lime juice, simple syrup, cucumber and fresh mint. The cocktail was cool, dry and refreshing making it perfect for a hot summer day. The Arancini were plated with a ladle of their house marinara and a healthy amount of shaved parmesan. They had a nice crunch and were the perfect temperature. The filling was deliciously herbal, nutty and cheesy. Check out the video for the cheese pull! The Polpetine were plated the same way and included a gooey ball of burrata. These hand formed meatballs were tangy and juicy. Add a forkful of the burrata and you'll be in heaven. The Ortalana pizza was delicious! We asked for half with no cheese. The crust had just the right amount of char and was sturdy enough to hold all the vegetables. I will definitely order this again on my next visit. I had the Crosta Burger cooked medium. The gorgonzola, caramelized onions and arugula hit all the right notes. An unusually dark brioche bun soaked up all the juices. The fries were perfectly cooked and had a nice snap with every bite. It came with a side of ketchup, but I opted for the vinaigrette already on the table. The Pasta Al Forno was served in what looked like a small ramekin. It was dense, rich and packed with flavor. I was really excited about Crosta because of the reviews and Napoli style pizza is my favorite of all pizza types. I'd say Crosta is a good Napoli pizza but I wouldn't put it in the best I've ever had list, though. From the pictures and actual look of the pie I expected the dough to be chewy and moist and have rich flavors, but it fell short in both areas. The sourdough dough had a pleasant and detectable flavor without being too much and the pizza combos were all solid, but the dough was a little dry and the flavors were a bit flat. We have been regular patrons of Crosta - 6 times in the last 4 months. The food is always great as well as the table service. BUT!!!!! Last night, we enjoyed our usual 4 pizzas, calamari and cauliflower, BUT while waiting for one last drink, the hostess asked us to vacate our table because other people were waiting for a table. We were told we could move indoors to a table there. Interesting, Why not offer that table to the people waiting? Recently, we checked this spot out for a late lunch. It's a cozy spot with comfortable vibe. Service was attentive and we got our appetizer (kale Caesar salad) pretty quickly. The salad was delicious. I tried the frittata ($17) on the brunch menu - it was a nice portion and was a decent frittata. The margarita pizza ($17) was a Neapolitan-ish pizza with great flavor. We tried some of the desserts including Zeppo's, chocolate cake, a special apple torte. All were delicious! They also were kind enough to deal with two very wild kids who were running around. As a local spot, I wished this place would be better, because the outside seating is wonderful, but the food was just not good. We had two pizzas - the spicy pepperoni and the umami white sauce - along with a kale cesar. The kale salad was very bitter and overly fishy, the kale could've benefited from some more massaging. Both of the pizzas came out room temp, which was odd, and the dough didn't have very much flavor, despite being sourdough. The spicy pepperoni was good enough, it's hard to mess up pepperoni, but the umami pizza had mushrooms that were way too large and had way too much oregano. Bless these employees! Kids of all ages running around, some outside some inside, some knocking over chairs, some having complete breakdowns. And yet they still manage to cultivate a place that is genuinely nice to grab a pizza. We went kinda early evening on a Monday which probably accounts for more there being quite a few large families grabbing dinner (the parents were doing their best for the most part as well, you can only do so much). We split the kale Caesar salad and each ordered a pizza. We had the smokey Hawaiian, the diavola and the di Parma. The di Parma was pretty good, I'm a red sauce guy so that was my least favorite but not bad at all. The Hawaiian was really good, loved those spicy pickled peppers! Also really loved the diavola. While Piccoli, the trattoria up the street from the same owners, is dedicated to pasta, Crosta is wholly focused on the pizza. Their claim to fame is that their sourdough pizza is naturally risen for 72 hours, giving the bread as much flavor as the toppings on each pie. Though you'll find burgers, salads, and sandwiches on their menu as well, I'd stick to their pies, of which you have 13 different kinds to choose from. I like to gauge a pizzeria by their margherita, and theirs was satisfactory, though not mind blowing. I was way more impressed by a white pie called the Umami Explosion, topped with taleggio cheese, fior di latte, smoked mozzarella, roasted mushrooms, sage, and a fried egg. The egg on the pizza doesn't do much for it but its the three cheeses and some unnamed umami seasoning that really give it a depth of flavor. Try it with the chili oil they offer at the restaurant. They have a cocktail list, but I've enjoyed the pies here with red wine. Service is great and their staff is really sweet. read more

Was able to snag a table as a walk-in on a Saturday night. Unfortunately the only table available was a high top in the back. We had decent timing because the staff had looked like they were just finishing up with the early dinner rush, with a bunch of tables closing their tabs and wrapping up their meals. The salad was a classic pizza parlour caesar salad with an adequate amount of dressing. The pizza was nice and spicy, with plenty of jalapeno slices, wilted from the pizza oven. The sourdough crust held up well to the sauce and toppings and gave a beautiful tangy note in the pizza. You'd be better off making a reservation just to be sure to get a table/booth during peak hours. We shared the Margarita DOP and the tartufata pizzas for the main course. The crusts were outstanding. Light and airy with a nice char. They are segued with an excellent chili oil. She comes back to say the order didn't get placed (uh, we ordered it w her) because of some table mix up and give us five more mins. At this point it's 6:55 and no food and of course 1/2 kids is starving and cranky. We decide we will get it to go. 20 mins go by and no food, no mention- people who arrived AFTER us get their food and at this point we decide to leave an hour after we arrive. No one was even understanding and the hostess said "sorry" and that's it. No conversation, no explanation- and we witnessed the wait staff and her all bicker as if the crowd on a Friday night was too much. The customer service here needs to get checked. read more

Went here today for lunch with my family. The positives were we ate outside and our waitress was wonderful. In addition the pizza dough and crust was excellent. We ordered a margarita pizza, pepperoni and a white tartufo pizza. The margarita was the best. We thought the sauce could be brighter and less runny. The pepperoni was fine, but the white had no taste and looked a mess. We had the homemade tiramisu and a ricotta gelato both of which need to be improved.
