"One bite, everybody knows the rules!" Haha! I had to get that out of the way as a little nod to Dave Portnoy before diving into the review. Valentino's is a solid neighborhood pizzeria and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. The first thing that stood out to me was the sauce: it's very savory and flavorful, which really gives their pizza a nice taste. They also have some great other things on the menu, and I highly recommend the zucchini sticks. Those were excellent and a must-try. As for the pizza itself, my preferences are a little different from how they prepare it. I personally like my slices a bit crispier, with a little more crunch on the bottom. That's just a matter of taste and not a knock on the quality. I also tried adding onions, and I probably wouldn't do that again. They use sliced red onions, which isn't really my thing. I tend to prefer onions that are diced and lightly sprinkled across the pie rather than larger slices on top. Overall, though, this is a very good local pizzeria with tasty sauce, great appetizers, and the kind of place that's easy to come back to when you're craving a good neighborhood slice. read more

Love this place!! I stopped here 3 times during my week and was very satisfied every time. I'm a NY Pizza fan and tried a few slices over the week and each was excellent. I really loved the chicken parm roll (Stromboli) and totally worth the price. The pasta fagioli soup was really good too. The service was great, the guys behind the counter were very cool. The place is a standard pizza Italian vibe place with plenty of room. I totally recommend giving this a go especially if you are staying around the corner at Tru or TownPlace suites. The pizza is absolutely delicious! I'm literally addicted to the chicken pizza pie/slices here. My employer tends to order a few boxes of pizza (chicken, plain cheese, pepperoni, grandma, etc.) from time to time. The Buffalo Chicken pizza is another favorite of mine. This is a popular joint for construction workers during lunch hours. The pizza was mediocre and had a weird chewiness. I ordered the vodka square slice and was disappointed in the lack of vodka flavoring. Also ordered the chicken parm in garlic roll which is a brilliant idea but the bread was not good. It's like taking a roll and slapping it with some butter garlic on top. Should throw some flavoring inside the bread too. They do have different variations of slices and lunch entrees made to order. read more

Like Salvo's- on the UES & Pizza Plus in the slope this pizza plus joint in Gowanus has tasty slices and food. The corner has a history of pizza in an Italian enclave. Are: The upside down slice Baked clams Mozzarella sticks Shrimp Fran diavolo Salmon plus veggies & potato croquette Other than the bread which was hard, the upside down slice was an ode to L&B and tasty. Pretty straightforward slice spot with other offerings like wings, salad, sandwiches. Perfect place to stop in for a slice while hopping around the neighborbood, especially the local BYOF bars. There wasn't much foot traffic on a sunny Sunday afternoon so the slice in the display didn't look particularly fresh, but nothing a few minutes in the oven can't help remedy. A really solid pizza place with excellent service! The crust is thin, the sauce is good, and a nice amount of cheese. We got sausage and onions on half and I wouldn't get the sausage again because it didn't have a lot of flavor. The guy serving us also offered us a balsamic slice to try and it was very good. Idk for my first New York slice I wasn't sure if this was the standard or if I should had went in to try it fresh? The Sicilian was NGL. But the other two slices were decent, the pizza wasn't expensive, but I don't think good food needs to be pricey either so idk. I've also had people suggest places outside of Brooklyn so I tried to be reasonable with the rating. Wish they had the chicken masala or parm pizza available was looking forward to trying it. read more

Visited Valentino's Pizza on Sunday evening. I felt the pizza I tried could use some work, but I really enjoyed my roll. I get the sense the guys behind the counter really care about this spot, and may have the extra effort to help it succeed. Quality: This location has been a revolving door of pizza spots over the past several years. Most closed before I got a chance to try, so I made an early visit to Valentino's. The Regular Pie Slice was just okay. It tasted old, and since this is an area without heavy traffic, maintaining fresh slices may prove an issue. However, I was quite impressed with the Buffalo Chicken Roll. Great flavor, lots of chicken, and a nice crispy outside. Quantity: Standard pizza size, the roll was pretty substantial. Value: $3.25 for a Regular Pie Slice. $8 for a Buffalo Chicken Roll. Ambiance: Valentino's Pizza occupies a massive restaurant space in Gowanus. They have a huge dining area with dozens of tables spread out. It feels large enough to house two separate restaurants. The ordering area is towards the back with a large window into the food. The wall had a television hanging, but it was off. In the background pop music played loudly. Crowd: Two other guests waiting for a pie to go. Service: Appreciated the hustle of the guys behind the counter. Parking: A fair amount of nearby street parking. read more

Not much to look at here but the pizza is fire! Perfect thin crust with nice sauce. The veggie slice was LOADED with a variety of fresh well cooked vegetable. Couldn't speak more highly of this place. The pizza is one of my favorite in the city and the guy who makes the pizza I think is the best pizza maker South Brooklyn has to offer. He's made pizza at other various pizzerias in BK, so he's been at it for awhile. The buffalo chicken and margherita slice slaps. The dough is where it's at and it has a nice sweet and crunchy taste. Any time I want pizza this is where I'm going. The owners are very friendly and the spot has been renovated and has a lot of seating. The last pizzeria that was in this location wasn't that great, this is NOT that one so go and check it out, he's a pizza wizard. read more
