The grilled Brie was a great starter, and the bread with butter and a dipping sauce were so good. Great flavor and grilled perfectly. The bread was so good we asked for more. My husband really wanted steak and ale pie, then settled for Irish stew instead. Couldn't even find that locally without poor little lambs (ewww) so we went here where he got shepherd's pie. Said it was the best meal he's had in Ireland! So there's that... I had the spinach and ricotta tortellini and it was absolutely delicious. I liked how creamy the sauce was, and the flavor was on point. The seating area was small but we went just after four as we had a spa appointment later. While in Killarney, which turned out to be one of our favorite stops while in Ireland, we wanted to hit a true local restaurant and Cronins was just the spot! Cronins sits on a Main Street through Killarney and feels like old world Ireland from the road to the table. It has a storied past in Killarney, being open over 60 years at this point. The space is as you would expect, cozy, local and welcoming. The menu is rooted in local ingredients including seafood, beef and veggies. We popped in for an early dinner and had an appetizer of the Smoked Irish Salmon, which was fresher than expected. Such a simple dish, but it was executed perfectly. For our mains, we had a burger and the Shepard's Pie. Burger was good. It was juicy, well cooked and the onion relish thing they had going on was *chefs kiss*. The Shepard's Pie was spot on. Both were made with local beef, which was cool and extra tasty! Beyond the food, Cronins also has their own cider, which was phenomenal and oddly enough, the only cider I had the whole time I was in Ireland! That speaks more to the hold Guinness had on me and less to the variety of cider. After the cider, we went with a few house cocktails including the Clover Club and Dingle Donkey. Both were well prepared, vibrant and tasty! Service was uniquely local, friendly and fun! From the bartender to our server, they were both excellent! Overall, Cronins is a stellar spot in a great spot in Killarney! When we get back over the pond and to Killarney, Cronins is on the list to swing by again! read more

Delicious food. My first time eating a real Shepherd's pie (not a frozen Marie Calendar's one) and the real thing is really delicious. Also ordered lamb that was fall off the bone. Lamb could've used some extra salt and pepper. I like that the lamb came with a bunch of veggies too. Sticky toffee pudding was really good. Also got a cider which was good. A very popular restaurant in Killarney downtown that seems to be much liked amongst the locals. Everyone I asked about this spot noted it was a great family restaurant that valued serving up home cooking, good food. Word had clearly spread about this spot over the years and amongst tourists as well as you definitely need a recommendation for dinner. Attempted to do a walk in which wasn't possible for inside seating and wasn't as keen on being on the street. However, made a dinner reservation for the following day and it was easy peasy. Staff are definitely on it here and very nice. From the front doorman/host to the wait staff and bartender everyone was kind. Good service and I agree with others reviews that it's got a family vibe. Definitely an Italian meets Irish "Sunday family dinner" type of feel. The menu is just that, classic Irish fare like fish n chips and Shepards pies, from lasagna to tortellini pasta. They also have some classics like roasts, lamb shanks, and steaks. A diverse menu and very cozy dishes. The complimentary bread is delicious with the crushed tomato spread. Can't get enough! For my dish I had the cheese and spinach tortellini which was pretty darn good. 4/5 stars. A nice vegetarian dish but nice and cheesy and flavorful. Garlic bread sealed the deal on it being a great dish. Their cocktail list is minimal I will note. At first I was a little disappointed but honestly there are so many bars in Ireland sometimes it's nice to just go to a spot that isn't focused on the booze. I tried the dingle donkey mainly because the name was cute, it's basically a Moscow mule. Classic cocktail. They do have a small wine list and beers for those interested. Prices are very reasonable here! Two alcoholic beverages and two mains for under 55 euros. The meals were tasty and filling. This is definitely a great little dinner spot to add to your list when in Killarney downtown, just make sure to get a reservation so that you can sit inside as the old school Italian ambiance is what makes it. read more

Definitely feels like a family place. When we went here recently they were a ton of families dining and a lot of old people. But the bottom line was that the place was full. We had made a reservation a couple hours before we arrived so we didn't have to wait long to get seated. When we were sat down I took a look around and it honestly reminded me of an old Italian restaurant at home. Lots of white walls but still a nice enough place. The service was pretty good despite how busy it was. Our waitress definitely checked on is enough and was professional and what not but lets talk about the food. The steak wasn't bad. It had decent flavor but it was just a bit too over cooked. I always ask for Medium Rare for the chance that they either 1. Get it right or 2. It comes out Medium and I am totally fine with that too also long as the flavor is there. But unfortunately neither of those scenarios happened. I think I'm also just spoiled a little bit at home. When I think Surf and Turf I immediately think of Steak and Lobster but it's cool. The surf can be any kind of good Seafood these days. I love shrimp but these were kind of underwhelming. They definitely weren't overcooked but i just was expecting something more than just a butter soak. All in all I had a decent experience at Cronins. I loved how nice everyone is. Out of all the meals in Ireland, I feel like this wasn't top of my list but I definitely would give them a shot again if I had the opportunity. read more

As a party of seven, getting a table can be a challenge but the good folks at Cronin's Restaurant warmly welcomed us into their restaurant and set us up with a great table for a dinner while visiting Killarney. The family running the restaurant was friendly and humorous and did a magnificent job making us feel welcome for our dinner. We started off the meal with an order of the garlic ciabatta which was exceptional. Some at the table started with a fish chowder, as well, which they raved about. Everyone around the table loved their meals and every option selected looked amazing. I went with the Shepherd's Pie which featured traditional minced Irish beef and vegetables, slow cooked in a rich gravy and topped with beautiful mashed potatoes. Aside from my father's own Shepherd's Pie this was the absolute best that I have ever had and would be something I'd go back to in a heartbeat if ever visiting Cronin's again. We had good meals at a very fair price. Two family members had a roast special, one beef and one lamb (gluten free). I enjoyed my shepherds pie. One had a burger which was relatively large. Nice, quiet, unassuming looking restaurant. The service was friendly and the waitress quickly took our order when we put our menus on the table. After ordering, the waitress showed us several photos of the beginnings of the restaurant, initially with a thatch roof. The food....excellent. Shepherds pie, ground beef, but also larger chunks of meat. My wife said it was very filling and tasty. I had a seafood plate of Hake, Salmon, mussels and Sea Bass...setting on a mild cream sauce. Ended the meal with rhubarb crumble with ice cream, whip cream and a small creamer filled with warm butter custard. EXCELLENT way to end a meal. Is a zero available? Walked in tonight with another couple ahead of us. When that couple asked for a table of two, the owner had no problem clearing off a table and having them seated right away. When he was finally done helping them, he didn't give us a "Hi how are you," but a, "what?" Asked us if we had a reservation (not the other couple before us mind you) and when we expressed no, he said there's nothing available for 30 minutes. Didn't ask us for our name, phone number, just shooed us out the door. I'm glad that they do well enough for themselves to select what kind of clientele they want to bring in as oppose to welcoming all business in. Hope those five open tables they had when we arrived got filled! Anyway, go to Laurels down the street for a much more enjoyable experience. I had an enjoyable meal at Cronin's during a recent visit to Galway. The restaurant was very tastefully decorated with the vibe of a nicer restaurant vs. the typical pubs in the area. The staff was welcoming and very attentive. I ordered the shepherd's pie and it was good with a generous portion, if not the best I have ever tasted. The vegetable soup was great and the companion soda bread was my favorite thus far in Ireland (and it's everywhere). A reservation was needed for a Tuesday night, so clearly this is a popular spot; worth a visit but plan ahead. read more

What a great restaurant in downtown Killarney Ireland. They do not have a large selection on the menu which is fine. The Best part is that their food was excellent great presentation and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The Sirloin Stake was moist and tender very tasty. The warm brie cheese-salad was incredible. The fried mushrooms were awesome they were not soggy, but hot, crispy coding and great flavor with a butter sauce. We met Mr Cronin, and we had a lovely conversation and were seated much more promptly than we were expecting. We were told it would be a half hour wait wothout anreservation, but because we were willing to come here we were seated very quickly. The atmosphere is lovely, and they have many options that are based from Kilarney, like a Kilarney brew and a Cronin Cider. I thought it was pretty cool. However the food was very average, and the portions were faily small for what we were paying for. I think they were trying to seem much more high end, or trying to accommodate for their very small restaurant. I couldnt tell. Great meal last night. I had the Shepard's Pie which was great. The meat was flavorful and the gravy was great. The potatoes they topped it with were creamy and added to the overall flavor of the dish. My wife and son had the Lasagna. The bite I had included all of the necessary elements good meat flavor, good noodles and cheese and Sauce. The positions we reasonably sized and came with a side of chips. Desserts were great and from a local bakery. We had the Sticky Toffee Pudding (fantastic), Raspberry Tart (great) and the Creme Brûlée (great). Overall it was a great meal. read more
