Tried to eat at this establishment, but was told the table was to small to seat us and to come back in around 30 minutes maybe they could seat us. Really feel we were blown off by the host. Normally, if I saw a half-pound of ground round hiding under a blanket of mashed potatoes, I would think I was eating a thawed-out Swanson's TV dinner as I figured that blanket was providing the meat a protective coating from freezer burn. But this charming little place in the heart of the equally charming hamlet of Killarney is not hiding a thing as their homemade shepherd's pie is quite delicious. Jamie W. and I were looking for just such a lunch stop on a particularly long drive from Kilkenny to Dingle in the westernmost part of Ireland. So when I saw this spot on the Yelp app, I navigated Jamie into the labyrinth of their downtown streets to find the restaurant near a large parking lot. Inside the traditional dining room, only two tables were occupied at around 3PM, so we were seated quickly. Jamie ordered the €13.95 Traditional Fish & Chips in Killarney Beer Batter which came with homemade tartar sauce and a side of "mushy peas" which were indeed mushy peas (photo: http://bit.ly/2fnyjAs). It was delicious with the cod fresh and the coating crispy but not overly crunchy. As I mentioned, I had the €11.95 Shepherd's Pie which was prepared quite nicely with the mashed potatoes whipped and buttery and the minced Irish beef and vegetables thick and soupy in a rich broth (photo: http://bit.ly/2ePwg4i). It came with the same chips and a side salad. Nope, there was no TV dinner here. Tried two nights going here based on the high reviews. Both nights guy up front turned us away even though they had plenty of empty seats. Looks like they are looking for a certain type of clientele and my wife and two kids (10 and 12) were not it. Excellent experience! We were in Town for a couple nights and this restaurant was recommended to us. We sat outside which was very pleasant. Ordered wine and beer and had lamb shank and daily roast (lamb with veg and mash). Came with brown bread to start. All meals were excellent and well done. Exceptional traditional Irish restaurant. Not a pub, so it has a lighter interior with a friendly homey atmosphere. Almost like a large B&B. The dining rooms are downstairs and upstairs but fill up quick so make a reservation. Service was outstanding. I believe we were waited on by the owner, or at least it felt like it. I received clean fork and knife between courses, and every request was tended to immediately even though all tables were packed. The food was outstanding for my entire family. From the great seafood chowder to the smoked salmon, the fish and chips, and roast stuffed leg of lamb. We thought we were full until we saw the desserts. The warm chocolate brownie and toffee pudding are not to be missed. I could not believe how reasonable the prices were. We both agreed that this food was the best we've had since leaving the States a week ago. Maybe we spent a bit more than most of the other places on our trip, but it wasn't much more, and certainly well worth the wait. They opened for dinner at 5:00 & we arrived early, so we walked about the village shops to kill some time. I had the seafood platter and a chowder, while my bride enjoyed the Shepard's Pie and creamy vegetable soup. We finished with Apple pie and ice cream. I'm still not accustomed to the European idea of a pie crust, which is more like a cake and nothing like a Julian Apple Pie - but we're in Ireland, not San Diego, so in context the dessert was about as good as it gets here! read more

I know, the reviews are great but quite frankly, the food is overpriced and not to a great standard. I ordered off the roast dinner menu and got the salmon. Salmon was covered in a white sauce which likely came out of a packet that congealed on my place. It was served with boring underseasoned mash and boiled cabbage (overcooked to the point that the colour was gone) and turnips. Yuck. The meal was similar to what you would have gotten in a cafe. This place was one of, if not the best, meals I had in my two trip to Europe. The hosts and servers were great, so friendly and accommodating when we arrived without a reservation. Ambience - for a family restaurant this seems more of a classy place. I arrived from out of town with a sweater on and a huge backpack on my back while everyone dining was dressed up. They seated me in the main dining hall and cleared room for my bags and welcomed me with open arms. Service - a warm greeting, a quick seating, great food and drink recommendations. Service gets 5 stars. Food - this is worth the 5 stars alone. Everything tasted amazing. It was cooked well, seasoned correctly, and the portion sizes were amazing. I highly recommend the Shepherds Pie. They even have delicious vegetarian options and list allergies for each meal so you know what to order (or what not to) as well. Stopped in for a date night while ton a road trip across Ireland. Drinks-We got the Killarney blonde ale and Cronins cider. Both were very good... and come in rather large (500mL) bottles! Cider was a nice balance of sweetness and the beer wasn't too hoppy! Food- Husband got the lamb cutlets with potato and veg. He said the lamb was a bit overdone but the sides were good. I got the supreme Irish salmon. It was fantastic. It came with asparagus as well as a side of veg and mashed potato. Salmon was cooked perfectly! I ended up sharing and hubby thought it was delicious! The sauce was nice and light also. Service- staff was very friendly and attentive. Dinner was nice and laid back and not rushed. By far the best food I've had during my whole half a month Europe trip. The service was great, super attentive and very friendly. The decor of the place is lovely, especially with Christmas decorations. I don't think you can go wrong with anything that you order here but the b/f got the fish n chips and I got the smoked salmon. It was to dieee for! The smoke salmon came on top of cheesy hot potato scallops with such great flavoring along with a salad which was made fresh with a lovely vinaigrette. On top of that, the drinks came free with the entrees, and yes they were alcoholic drinks. ;) I also got the seafood chowder for an appetizer, if you are truly a fan of seafood, you would love this, huge pieces of fish and some mussels to go along with the great salty taste.
