Note: all my recent vacation in Ireland Yelp reviews will have the same 1st paragraph preamble, for just the review itself skip to the 2nd paragraph. On a whirlwind 2 week vacation to Ireland, the girlfriend & I tried to see & experience absolutely as much of this incredible land as we could. We did not accomplish every last activity we wished we could have on our rather ambitious itinerary. Nonetheless, we did discover a land of numerous stunning & magical wonders. We did see a land of unending natural beauty. We did learn of a land with a monumentally long history of trials, tragedies & triumphs. We did get to meet many kind, humorous, warm & generous people. Our vacation to Ireland was just 2 weeks, but that was time enough to know this is a land easy to love & a land to be sorely missed. Sharing its name with a nearby river, the Flesk is situated right in city center Killarney. For our last night in town, after having eaten mostly in pubs our previous meals, the girlfriend was in the mood for more of a nice restaurant dining experience. From the outside, the Flesk looked like it might be right so we went on in. I noticed 2 things immediately as soon as we stepped in: it was very warm & very brightly lit inside. More than 1/2 of the patronage was the post-retirement age crowd, maybe that was the reason for all the heat & light. We were greeted & seated promptly & menus soon followed from our friendly server. The girlfriend & I both opted for specials &, of course, pints of Guinness. She went for the Hake & I got the Rack of Lamb. We both picked Mash Potato as a side, both had veggies & mine additionally had some stuffing & onion rings. There was a fairly long wait for our food. We finished off our 1st round of Guinness & ordered a 2nd. When we finally got our food, it was all really very good. My Rack of Lamb was perfectly cooked to a medium rare with a delicious sauce on top of being lightly caramelized on the outside & tender inside. The girlfriend was served an extra fillet of Hake & I was the beneficiary of this unexpected boon. The Hake was exceptional. Under a thin, delicate, crispy, baked breaded crust, the fish was light, flaky & moist. The Mash Potato was yum. The veggies were fresh & snappy. My stuffing & onion rings garnish was a tasty complement to the lamb. With dinner all down (the extra Hake fillet turned already good portions into a big big meal), the girlfriend was still interested in getting some dessert. We had the Lemon Meringue, though it took some effort to order it. Over the course of our meal, our server had become less & less available. The Lemon Meringue was pretty good. But by the time we were done, it felt like we had been forgotten. We managed to get our check, but nobody seemed interested in collecting it. After we didn't see anyone for a while, we left payment on the table. Bizarre, everyone seemed friendly, but they just stopped coming around. Our dinner at the Flesk was a strange mixed experience. Though it took a while to get it, all the food we had at the Flesk was excellent. Service was friendly but evaporated over time. Afterward, we were both happy in a satiated way & puzzled.

This place was recommended by our carriage driver and he highly recommended the seafood stew. We hadn't had much luck with food during our trip so we weren't really thinking it would be that great but we were superbly surprised. The service was prompt and attentive and the seafood chowder was excellent. We ordered two bowls and it came with yummy brown bread and was filled with muscles, salmon, whitefish, clams and scallops. We also ordered a onion jam tart which was very good and we were stuffed! Great spot away from all the tourists (which we were tourists as well, lol).

On our self-drive honeymoon through Ireland, my husband and I stayed in the lovely town of Killarney. We were walking around the town on our first night and decided to stop in for dinner at The Flesk. We were very glad that we did! Our dinner was absolutely fantastic; the quality, flavors, textures, and presentation were wonderful. The staff was attentive, even during a very busy evening at the restaurant. I was a little worried when we walked in when I saw live seafood tanks that it may smell like seafood-but, rest assured, it did not! This was such a happy find for us for one of our first dinner-dates as husband and wife :) When we next visit Ireland, we plan on visiting Killarney again and we will be stopping by The Flesk!

Very efficient service considering how busy they were when we went. Fish cakes were fantastic. And according to my hot date, the fish was great as well. Unfortunately, the steak was awful. I ordered it medium, as the waitress description of a medium steak was accurate. What arrived at the table however was beef jerky with not even a hint of pink in the middle. Luckily they also provided some pepper sauce that I could drown it in, soften it up, and add a little flavor to the meat.

Salmon...delicious and fresh!

We are touring through 3 counties in western Ireland. We arrived at the Flesk on a hopping Saturday night. Although busy and seemingly full, the manager encouraged a waitress to find us a table for 3, and just minutes later she seated us. We had chowder, vegetable tarts, and salmon. See photo of my salmon..beautiful presentation, generous portion, and perfectly cooked. Best meal after 3 days in Ireland. Our host had suggested this restaurant, and it was good. Oh, responding to another reviewer, the wait staff all help each other out & we had attentive service from all 3 servers.

This meant loosened belts and full bellies most of our time in the city and we couldn't have been happier! On our second night in town, we were after an early dinner as we had plans at another local pub later in the evening. After a stroll around town, Mad Monk was the spot! Apparently Quinlan's is a small chain with several spots around Ireland, and after popping in, we can tell why. The thing that stood out the most for us at Mad Monk was the freshness of all the goods, specifically the seafood. I enjoy a good grilled or pan seared fish filet, but being in Ireland, it was my mission to try as many fish and chips as I could, and Mad Monk was next on the list! Before we dove into our mains, we did order one of the only non-seafood dishes on the menu, the braised beef croquettes. They were absolutely tasty, and set up our mains very well! We both went with the traditional fish and chips. The fish was perfectly fried and flaky and the tartar sauce was *chefs kiss*! I will say, as with most chips around the island, the chips were a bit underwhelming. They were slightly crispy and fluffy inside, but I am not a huge fan of steak fries and they definitely could have used a bit more seasoning. Service was solid, efficient and friendly. The space is quaint, bright and sleek. Lots of woods and blues, which definitely give the vibes of seafood. Overall, Mad Monk was a solid spot and one we glad we visited during our short stay in Killarney!

All of our entrees were exceptional Great cheerful service. Very highly recommended Slainte

Cronins sits on a Main Street through Killarney and feels like old world Ireland from the road to the table. It has a storied past in Killarney, being open over 60 years at this point. The space is as you would expect, cozy, local and welcoming. The menu is rooted in local ingredients including seafood, beef and veggies. We popped in for an early dinner and had an appetizer of the Smoked Irish Salmon, which was fresher than expected. Such a simple dish, but it was executed perfectly. For our mains, we had a burger and the Shepard's Pie. Burger was good. It was juicy, well cooked and the onion relish thing they had going on was *chefs kiss*. The Shepard's Pie was spot on. Both were made with local beef, which was cool and extra tasty! Beyond the food, Cronins also has their own cider, which was phenomenal and oddly enough, the only cider I had the whole time I was in Ireland! That speaks more to the hold Guinness had on me and less to the variety of cider. After the cider, we went with a few house cocktails including the Clover Club and Dingle Donkey. Both were well prepared, vibrant and tasty! Service was uniquely local, friendly and fun! From the bartender to our server, they were both excellent! Overall, Cronins is a stellar spot in a great spot in Killarney! When we get back over the pond and to Killarney, Cronins is on the list to swing by again!

I visited with family, and although we showed up a half hour ahead of our reservation they were able to accommodate and seat us right away. My family had been in search of a quality serving of oysters during our Ireland trip and took the opportunity here without a doubt. There are several options to order them and you can order as little as three at a time, which is nice since some places only do half dozen increments. The waitstaff was attentive and we even had the manager helping as well, although they did not always keep up with our quick wine drinking as well had to remind them to pour more wine a few times. A patron even pulled the fire alarm on accident but the manager quickly turned it off before it became a distraction. I would recommend Kitty's to any tourist looking for a higher quality meal on their trip like we were.

The pie of the day, not on the menu, was steak and kidney, which I had to try "for research purposes". The pastry crust extended to the sides and bottom so it fully enclosed the filling and was served "freestanding". Crust and gravy were excellent. In the filling, both the steak and the kidneys were plentiful. My research completed, I probably wouldn't order it again; just give me the steak - no more kidneys please! Nevertheless I did enjoy and finished it. This was served with decent fries and a truly excellent green salad: a variety of leafy greens, radishes, cucumbers, pickled onions, and pre-dressed with a vinaigrette. The wife had the Beef & Guinness Casserole, served with brown bread. Along with steak there were also plentiful veggies (root vegetables and celery) and mashed potatoes in the center. She liked it. I tried it and agreed. I would get that next time. I had a Jameson Old Fashioned to drink and it was the best Old Fashioned I've had in some time. The unusually large twisted orange peel probably contributed and it may have had more than the customary amount of bitters. The wife's tea was amusingly served with a knitted "cozy" keeping the teapot hot. For dessert we shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding, served with vanilla ice cream, attractively presented with a dusting of sugar, whipped cream, and a ground cherry complete with its leaves. I'd rate it second among the three I've tried so far. Would certainly order it again. As for the pub I can't say. It has a reputation for good traditional Irish music every night but unfortunately not until 9:30, way too late for us. Sadly we're just not pub people.
