I started with the best mussels I have ever had, followed by John Dory that was heaven.

The Mad Monk - Thai Fish Cakes

The Mad Monk

While we were only in Killarney for a couple of days/nights, we made it point to enjoy as many…read morelocal spots as possible. This meant loosened belts and full bellies most of our time in the city and we couldn't have been happier! On our second night in town, we were after an early dinner as we had plans at another local pub later in the evening. After a stroll around town, Mad Monk was the spot! Apparently Quinlan's is a small chain with several spots around Ireland, and after popping in, we can tell why. The thing that stood out the most for us at Mad Monk was the freshness of all the goods, specifically the seafood. I enjoy a good grilled or pan seared fish filet, but being in Ireland, it was my mission to try as many fish and chips as I could, and Mad Monk was next on the list! Before we dove into our mains, we did order one of the only non-seafood dishes on the menu, the braised beef croquettes. They were absolutely tasty, and set up our mains very well! We both went with the traditional fish and chips. The fish was perfectly fried and flaky and the tartar sauce was *chefs kiss*! I will say, as with most chips around the island, the chips were a bit underwhelming. They were slightly crispy and fluffy inside, but I am not a huge fan of steak fries and they definitely could have used a bit more seasoning. Service was solid, efficient and friendly. The space is quaint, bright and sleek. Lots of woods and blues, which definitely give the vibes of seafood. Overall, Mad Monk was a solid spot and one we glad we visited during our short stay in Killarney!

Wondering through town looking for a very late lunch. The menu outside looked great but the time…read moresaid 1700. It was 1500 and told us to come in. Seated at a six top in the front window vestibule (great view). Offered water and coctails immediately. We all started with a white seafood chowder filled with seafood, mussels, shrimp, and white fish. It was the best chowder we had in Ireland and rivaled Bostons best. All of our entrees were exceptional Great cheerful service. Very highly recommended Slainte

Dooley's Seafood & Steakhouse

Beautiful views of the river from this fine dining establishment however…read more... As others have stated on this Yelp Page service was shotty. When I asked for a menu, the waitress said they didn't have one.......okay. She did list what was available to choose as we were part of a bus tour group and only had selected options we could choose unless we wanted to pay additional monies, maybe that's why there was no menu. I went with a seafood chowder with some flaky pastry bread on top. The food was okay but literally being next to a river with many boats out on the water I was expecting exceptional seafood or something that tasted very fresh. I wouldn't come back but I am sure if you are in the area, you could have a good time here with the right crowd, the location was pretty fab and the interior of the restaurant was nice as well. As always people SYOY!!!

Part of tour group going around Ireland, we stopped into Dooley's Seafood and Steakhouse for lunch…read more All-in-all, it was very good! On a Saturday, around noon, a coach bus of us came. The inside was large, easily accommodating us with plenty of tables. The waitresses came to our table and took our orders quickly. As a tour group, we were given only two options for lunch and a single dessert, which was fine with me. I ordered their Beef & Guinness Stew for lunch and was very happy with it! I had ordered the same thing from a pub in Dublin a few nights before and was disappointed, Dooley's was the opposite experience, this was excellent! The beef was tender, vegetables generously sized and soft, the sauce was hot and flavorful, and I really liked the flaky pastry on top used to mop up any leftover sauce. For dessert, they served Bread Pudding, which was good, but not the best I had during my time in Ireland, but good. All-in-all, a good and speedy experience at Dooley's Seafood and Steakhouse. If I were in Ireland again and passing by here, I'd have no issue coming back and grabbing a Beef & Guinness Stew from here.
