Okay literally just had some of the best fried fish I've had in a long while. If you like fish and chips or any variety of fried seafood and stews, this place will 100% be right up your alley. I asked a local for his favorite fish and chips spot and he hands down said this restaurant. So glad he mentioned it because on a busy street it doesn't have a huge presence so I'm sure I would have sadly walked on by. Thankful for good people and good suggestions! This restaurant is small and almost diner like in layout. No stools but where a diner counter normally would be are the fryers so you can see the fish being cooked up fresh to order. It's definitely got a feel good old timey vibe while also being clean and slightly modernized. The menus were straightforward with some great fried seafood options, appetizers, stews, and sides. The alcohol menu was limited but they had Cronins Cider on the menu so you can't go wrong. Prices were very reasonable for a sit down restaurant that was casual but with 5 star service. The staff were very nice and hospitable. The gentlemen approached us immediately when we stepped inside and told us to wait just one minute while he cleaned a table for us. He was quick and we were sat right away. The staffing was well paced, enough time to look over the menu but then quick to get our orders taken and the food came out in under 10 minutes. That was with almost every table being filled. Both the guy and gal working this evening were nice and on top of things. I opted for the fried fish and chips. However, upgraded to cod and substituted onion rings for the chips. Such a smart move! If you look over their photos and reviews, the onion rings are the star of the meal. Tempura tasting batter, light and fluffy they were amazing! French fries seem to come with everything in the pubs, trust me take a break and get the onion rings you'll be very delighted. The cod fish and chips was another home run, 5/5 stars! Super flaky, fresh, and delicious. The cod is slightly on the smaller side (it's still a plentiful portion) but just noting if you want a really big fried fish maybe go with another option. However, the cod was perfectly cooked and love that it has such a mild flavor. It was exceptional. Really good tartar sauce here (very important) and I liked their brand of malt vinegar, not too strong. Truly everything was perfect. Lastly, I will say they also had the best music playing in the background! Compliments to whoever picked their background music lol. It's not loud but just subtle enough that you could see heads bobbing to the music and I loved every song. The vibes were good and honestly this was my favorite meal in Killarney. Definitely one for the books and I will definitely come back again some day.

Excellent choice for dinner in Killarney. It starts to get busy around 6 pm but before that it's not too difficult to get a table. The fish and chips is solid- you could choose cod or a different fish (eg haddock, hake), but I love cod so that's what I went with. Could tell it was fresh and good quality, meat was flaky but not overcooked at all. Chips just needed a dash of salt, it was a good serving size! This plate of fish and chips, mushy peas, and a drink was £22, which I think is fair for being in the middle of Killarney. Food also came out pretty quickly!

This was highly recommended from our tour guide. We had an early dinner and were seated right away. We had fish and chips, seafood chowder, a bowl of crab claws and an order of onion rings. Can't say it was the best, but we did enjoy the fish and chips. The seafood chowder was loaded with lotsa fish, actually it was a bit too much because all the fish were kinda dry. The crab claws sounded good on the menu but I don't recommend it because it got a bit rubbery after all the chewing. The only highlight of the meal is the fish and chips and also the crunchy onion rings.

Great fish and chips. Prepared perfectly. Not over fried and haddock was very tender!

Highly recommended this restaurant. Get the fish and chips! Also recommend the onion rings and Killarney Blonde beer!

Delicious. We walked in on a rainy Monday around 4pm to find the place empty. We were warmly greeted by a sweet lady and the chef. The haddock was recommended for the fish and chips so my friend and I both ordered that. The fish was perfectly fried and tasted so fresh. Drizzled with fresh lemon juice and dipped in their fantastic Tartar sauce, it was *chef's kiss*.

We came here for dinner one night during our stay in Killarney. We started with a couple of seafood chowders which I thought was pretty good. It's served with a good brown bread. For my main dish, I got fish and chips with hake, but I substituted onion rings for the chips. I really enjoyed my meal. My parents said the chips weren't very good. My husband got the crab claws and loved them. It's a very small restaurant and it was pretty busy when we were there, but we didn't have to wait to be seated. We had good service as well. If you're looking for good seafood at a reasonable price, this is a good place to stop.

What a great place! The crab claws were buttery, garlicky and so good! Dip that bread in to the butter and it's even better. The prawns were good, the fries needed salt. Mushy peas were great. Service was amazing! Wait staff checked on us along with the manager. Small seating area but we'll worth the wait if you have to wait. Get the crab claws! You won't regret it

    Deep Fried Lemon Sole Special

Doesn't look like much when you walk past, but it does nothing but fish & chips so I figured I would give it a try. I had the deep fried lemon sole special which was excellent!! And omg, mushy peas-where have you been all my life???

This was a recommendation from our tour driver. During the busy season, it's been said that queues up to an hour long have been seen and I can understand why. Upon entering, is the overwhelming fishy smell. (That's either a good sign, or a not so good sign). A small-ish place, we were seated promptly. Our order came put quick, almost too quickly. But, on our plates was #13 fresh haddock (no bones) and a large serving on fries. Very tasty and service was also great (and not a bad price at €13 a piece) (P.S. the onion rings were huge and the calamari looked fantastic)

The cod fish and chips was excellent. Fast and friendly service. Highly recommended.

Came here for lunch while strolling through Killarney for the day, service was quick and food was delicious. I didn't realize the open shrimp sandwich would be cold so I was not prepared for it. However, it was plenty of food and very good. They were smaller sized shrimp. The side salad was a great surprise with a citrus dressing. My husband got the fish cakes and I have several bites as it was so tasty. There had a few menu items that were sold out so I was a little disappointed we didn't get in here earlier!

This meant loosened belts and full bellies most of our time in the city and we couldn't have been happier! On our second night in town, we were after an early dinner as we had plans at another local pub later in the evening. After a stroll around town, Mad Monk was the spot! Apparently Quinlan's is a small chain with several spots around Ireland, and after popping in, we can tell why. The thing that stood out the most for us at Mad Monk was the freshness of all the goods, specifically the seafood. I enjoy a good grilled or pan seared fish filet, but being in Ireland, it was my mission to try as many fish and chips as I could, and Mad Monk was next on the list! Before we dove into our mains, we did order one of the only non-seafood dishes on the menu, the braised beef croquettes. They were absolutely tasty, and set up our mains very well! We both went with the traditional fish and chips. The fish was perfectly fried and flaky and the tartar sauce was *chefs kiss*! I will say, as with most chips around the island, the chips were a bit underwhelming. They were slightly crispy and fluffy inside, but I am not a huge fan of steak fries and they definitely could have used a bit more seasoning. Service was solid, efficient and friendly. The space is quaint, bright and sleek. Lots of woods and blues, which definitely give the vibes of seafood. Overall, Mad Monk was a solid spot and one we glad we visited during our short stay in Killarney!

Cronins sits on a Main Street through Killarney and feels like old world Ireland from the road to the table. It has a storied past in Killarney, being open over 60 years at this point. The space is as you would expect, cozy, local and welcoming. The menu is rooted in local ingredients including seafood, beef and veggies. We popped in for an early dinner and had an appetizer of the Smoked Irish Salmon, which was fresher than expected. Such a simple dish, but it was executed perfectly. For our mains, we had a burger and the Shepard's Pie. Burger was good. It was juicy, well cooked and the onion relish thing they had going on was *chefs kiss*. The Shepard's Pie was spot on. Both were made with local beef, which was cool and extra tasty! Beyond the food, Cronins also has their own cider, which was phenomenal and oddly enough, the only cider I had the whole time I was in Ireland! That speaks more to the hold Guinness had on me and less to the variety of cider. After the cider, we went with a few house cocktails including the Clover Club and Dingle Donkey. Both were well prepared, vibrant and tasty! Service was uniquely local, friendly and fun! From the bartender to our server, they were both excellent! Overall, Cronins is a stellar spot in a great spot in Killarney! When we get back over the pond and to Killarney, Cronins is on the list to swing by again!

Two slices of brown bread and butter. The chicken was lightly fried and came with a stuffing of thyme and spring onion, gravy and French fries. Chicken was well cooked, flavorful and juicy. The fries were nice and crispy. The t-bone was 16ounces and came with mushrooms, onions, onion rings and fries. The steak was cooked as requested, medium rare. The mushrooms were small button mushrooms with sautéed onions. Part of the steak was nice and tender but there were parts that were tough and grisly and fatty. It was okay but not something I would order again. The onion rings, 3, were heavily breaded, stuck together and were not appetizing to look at and definitely not to eat. The fries were nice and crispy and served very not. This was an okay meal but based on it I'm not sure we'd make a return trip. Seating was probably the most comfortable that we have found recently but the place is very noisy and makes it hard to hold a conversation. Service was mediocre in that once we got our main meal we didn't see a server to come back and check to see home things were. The pie of the day, not on the menu, was steak and kidney, which I had to try "for research purposes". The pastry crust extended to the sides and bottom so it fully enclosed the filling and was served "freestanding". Crust and gravy were excellent. In the filling, both the steak and the kidneys were plentiful. My research completed, I probably wouldn't order it again; just give me the steak - no more kidneys please! Nevertheless I did enjoy and finished it. This was served with decent fries and a truly excellent green salad: a variety of leafy greens, radishes, cucumbers, pickled onions, and pre-dressed with a vinaigrette. The wife had the Beef & Guinness Casserole, served with brown bread. Along with steak there were also plentiful veggies (root vegetables and celery) and mashed potatoes in the center. She liked it. I tried it and agreed. I would get that next time. I had a Jameson Old Fashioned to drink and it was the best Old Fashioned I've had in some time. The unusually large twisted orange peel probably contributed and it may have had more than the customary amount of bitters. The wife's tea was amusingly served with a knitted "cozy" keeping the teapot hot. I'd rate it second among the three I've tried so far. Would certainly order it again. As for the pub I can't say.
