Iceburg Wedge Salad
Miranda L.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and service at Porterhouse! We stopped in off a recommendation from our hotel's front desk and we were happy we did! The menu had a good variety of offerings and prices. Our group started with a round of drinks: wines, a local beer, and a craft cocktail. The Stags Night was a take on an old fashioned with sweet and nutty notes. For our mains: the caesar salad, chicken tenders, beef and brisket burger, wedge salad, and a side of fries to share. All items had great flavor! Just go in knowing the chicken tender meat does not taste like in the states. We ended with a warm chocolate brownie to share and it came with vanilla ice cream. Our server, Trish, was wonderful! Very attentive, didn't draw the meal out too long, and was kind. Definitely stop by Porterhouse for a bite to eat!

Ribeye Steak with a side of spicy prawn.

What a great place to grab a steak and a pint. This restaurant was recommended by a local and now o know why. The ribeye steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the shrimp melted in my mouth. The seasoning was perfection and I highly recommend the peppercorn sauce. The serve was attentive but not rushed. Prices are slightly on the higher end of the middle. The ambiance was cozy as you would expect here in Killarney

It's very cozy, especially in the two seater booths. All of the staff are very nice. The food is really delish, except for the mozzarella sticks. I don't think they were prepared correctly as all four of them were just breaded shells nearly sans cheese. However the Brie bacon jam burger was killer. It was very good, and for an 8oz patty, it was still edible without needing a fork. The Parmesan rosemary whatever aioli fries are kickass. I am not a vegan but the mushroom bruschetta is effing fantastic. Absolutely stellar. It's not a vegan dish that replaces some other dish, it just happens to be vegan.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken and cheese with bacon Sandwich.

We arrived and were promptly seated. Service was exceptional. Both if us had the buttermilk chicken sandwich with cheese and bacon. It was excellent. We topped the dinner off with a chocolate brownie and ice cream. I recommend reservations. This is a dinner restaurant that opens at 5 pm and can get crowded.

Good food! Good service! We had a great time in a nice bar environment. Very clean and friendly with nice booths to sit at. I ordered a 7oz sirloin with garlic butter, would recommend!!

Dinner: brisket burger and gnocchi pesto. Cocktails: Jameson & Ginger; spicy Margarita.

Loved Porterhouse! Visited (from the US) 05/18/23. We had dinner at a table for two outside on the street... Lovely! I had a spicy margarita and my husband, a whiskey sour (traditional with egg white froth) for first cocktail; Jameson & Ginger for second He had the "veg" (vegetable) soup to start and brisket burger with "chips" (fries). I had the dirty Caesar salad to start (came with three surprise deep-fried chicken tenders) and gnocchi pesto. All delicious...pesto not traditional green but tomato-based. Rich and tasty! Great meal; great, friendly service. Highly recommend!

What a great find for a vegan dinner and delish food! Who would think a vegan could find such excellent fare at a steak house? Try it out!

Menu showing three items not available

Real disappointed with our experience with Porterhouse. Starts with the ability to make reservations. Cannot call and speak to anyone. Reserve must be made online. Then they require a credit card in order to charge you 10 euros per head if you cancel within 2 hours. I am actually ok with all of that. Issues comes in that their online menu was way off. They said Lamb shank was out of season. They were out of fish of the day and beef and brisket burger. Those were the three items our table of six came for. We left after getting our drinks and had amazing lamb shank and fish and chips at neighboring restaurant. Gave Porterhouse the 2nd star because staff was nice and drinks were good.

Steak sandwich from the grill with tortilla chips.

Looks small - but it's MASSIVE. Staff were great and friendly. Steak sandwich was 3/5. Irish coffee 4.5/5.

The Porterhouse in Killarney We went here on two different days. The first day we had the loaded vegan potato skins and some cocktails. The potato skins were okay. I've never had loaded VEGAN potato skins before, but personally felt that they could have used some more seasoning of some sort or maybe hot sauce on the side. I do admit that they were cooked perfectly and brought out in a fast and timely manner and were plenty hot in temperature. I had a gin tonic. It was really tasty and prepared in a beautiful manner. It was just the right amount of gin and just the right amount of tonic. Let me just tell ya, that most restaurants in Ireland, don't necessarily have a speciality cocktail menu, so you'll have to know what you want for them to make! The second day I ordered the vegan pasta dish with vegan cheese! I enjoyed the vegan potato skins a lot more than the pasta dish, but the potato skins wouldn't be filling enough as a main entree. I really like how they put some vegan cheese shreds on the side of the dish to add in, but I don't think that the ingredients chosen in the dish matched as well as they should have. Now I love black olives, but in this dish I think that a different choice of olives, such as kalamata would have been better. I did like the nuts that were in the dish because it gave a nice crunch. Lastly, a little more tomato pasta sauce would have been nice. Anyways, all around. The Porterhouse was one of my favorite stops in the area because of the multiple labeled vegan items on the menu. As a vegan, it means so much to see items labeled as vegan and shows that the restaurant cares! See both dishes pictured below! Also, this place seems to be always pretty busy so I recommend giving yourself plenty of time or reserving a table! As always, GO

The snug was crowded for a group of 5. The lamb stew was quite tasty but was more of a soup than a stew.

Cronins sits on a Main Street through Killarney and feels like old world Ireland from the road to the table. It has a storied past in Killarney, being open over 60 years at this point. The space is as you would expect, cozy, local and welcoming. The menu is rooted in local ingredients including seafood, beef and veggies. We popped in for an early dinner and had an appetizer of the Smoked Irish Salmon, which was fresher than expected. Such a simple dish, but it was executed perfectly. For our mains, we had a burger and the Shepard's Pie. Burger was good. It was juicy, well cooked and the onion relish thing they had going on was *chefs kiss*. The Shepard's Pie was spot on. Both were made with local beef, which was cool and extra tasty! Beyond the food, Cronins also has their own cider, which was phenomenal and oddly enough, the only cider I had the whole time I was in Ireland! That speaks more to the hold Guinness had on me and less to the variety of cider. After the cider, we went with a few house cocktails including the Clover Club and Dingle Donkey. Both were well prepared, vibrant and tasty! Service was uniquely local, friendly and fun! From the bartender to our server, they were both excellent! Overall, Cronins is a stellar spot in a great spot in Killarney! When we get back over the pond and to Killarney, Cronins is on the list to swing by again!

The pie of the day, not on the menu, was steak and kidney, which I had to try "for research purposes". The pastry crust extended to the sides and bottom so it fully enclosed the filling and was served "freestanding". Crust and gravy were excellent. In the filling, both the steak and the kidneys were plentiful. My research completed, I probably wouldn't order it again; just give me the steak - no more kidneys please! Nevertheless I did enjoy and finished it. This was served with decent fries and a truly excellent green salad: a variety of leafy greens, radishes, cucumbers, pickled onions, and pre-dressed with a vinaigrette. The wife had the Beef & Guinness Casserole, served with brown bread. Along with steak there were also plentiful veggies (root vegetables and celery) and mashed potatoes in the center. She liked it. I tried it and agreed. I would get that next time. I had a Jameson Old Fashioned to drink and it was the best Old Fashioned I've had in some time. The unusually large twisted orange peel probably contributed and it may have had more than the customary amount of bitters. The wife's tea was amusingly served with a knitted "cozy" keeping the teapot hot. For dessert we shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding, served with vanilla ice cream, attractively presented with a dusting of sugar, whipped cream, and a ground cherry complete with its leaves. I'd rate it second among the three I've tried so far. Would certainly order it again. As for the pub I can't say. It has a reputation for good traditional Irish music every night but unfortunately not until 9:30, way too late for us. Sadly we're just not pub people.

The name "Bricín" is Irish for "little trout" and is also the name of a stone bridge in Killarney National Park. The restaurant was established by the McGuire brothers, who restored the building with antique timber and stained glass. The restaurant is upstairs from a gift shop that I believe the owners also operate. We had made reservations and once upstairs, we were personally greeted and welcomed by maybe one of the brothers. Mary was our wait person for the evening, who we found to be warm, friendly, and attentive. We were also seated at a nice corner table (#14) that allowed the right amount of dining privacy with a very attractive room. Bricín offers a fixed price meal (appetizer, main, and dessert) for 46 Euro and an "Early Bird" special for 34 Euros. We opted to order off the Menu as follows: - Hake and Salmon Gratin (Fern) - Boxty (House Specialty) - Traditional Irish potato pancake, cooked on the griddle with mixed salad and a choice of meat (Don) - Rack of Kerry Lamb (Gayle Loves Lamb!) - Thai Red Chicken Curry with Thai jasmine rice (Eric) - Adult Beverages (Wines) - Spanish Rueda (White), Pinot Grigio, Siegel Reserva (Chilean Merlot), and another Merlot. - Split 2 Desserts (One Special) plus teas and coffee. It was all a wonderful dining experience, when food, atmosphere, service, and good company all become greater than the sum of its parts. And we expressed that sentiment to one of the brothers who checked in on us at one point and Mary.

The upstairs restaurant is decorated with antique furniture and scenic paintings that make it feel like you've stepped into a charming old inn. The scallion and leek tart was noteworthy, but the rack of lamb could have been a bit more tender. The servers were friendly and accommodating, even offering to hang our raincoats and umbrellas in the side nook and fetch them when the service was over.

We starting with a fish cake, that was quite good and included a tangy sweet sauce and a small salad with it. We got the fish cake as the first course of a two-course special. The main entreé was a Hake fish. It was an incredibly light and flaky white fish, that was served with a side salad and side of mash. There were two filets, however it appears one of the filets was not de-boned, which required some extra work on my part. Though, the flavor was fantastic. The sticky toffee pudding was mostly okay, but there was a burnt bitterness to it that was a touch off-putting. Ultimately, it was still satisfactory. Unfortunately, the service here was quite slow. It was difficult to get a waiter's attention for a dessert menu, and I was unable to flag down a waiter to put in my dessert order. After a few failed attempts I went up to the bar to do so. ...And to get the card machine to pay. Also, it really speaks to if you're in a touristy section of town when there's a notice about gratutites not being included. And it was only the 2nd time in my two weeks here that I was asked if I'd like to add a tip. I realize the tone of this review is rather negative because of the bad service on the night, but the food itself was rather good, despite being pricey for the portion provided. The quality of the fish alone is holding onto that fourth star by a thread. Would've been an easy five if the service was up to snuff though.

It came out quick! We all had pasta for our entrees - I went with the spaghetti alla pescatora which had several types of seafood in it - and I thought it was so good. Not what you would expect of this type of restaurant especially with how busy it was when we were here but it kept us entertained nonetheless! We were lucky that they allowed us to split the check up at the bar! It made our dining experience much easier and many restaurants don't like to split the check so this was much appreciated. There is a note on the menu that if they are super busy, they ask that you don't split the check.
