What amazing portions this place has! It was Thanksgiving day and my boyfriend and I decided to treat ourselves for a night with better food, so glad we came here. They do a special prix fix menu that is definitely worth the price. I ordered the cream cheesed stuffed mushroom, he got the smoked salmon- HUGE portion for that! We both got the sirloin entree, soo much food, also, they'll ask if you want some sauce a garlic butter or something else i can't remember, it's essentially either ketchup or mayonnaise. The dessert was a warm apple pie with custard and ice cream. I was so stuffed I couldn't finish it at all but thinking back on it now, i wish i had it with me so i could devour it, sooo delicious! We came here through a recommendation from a bouncer at a nearby pub. He was not wrong. I never had a chips platter where the salsa was baked with the cheese, but it worked so well. The hamburger was so so juicy and the fajita came out sizzling (sauce even hit my arm). I would have liked more meat in the fajitas but what are you gonna do. After having little luck getting service at another establishment, we came to Porterhouse. There wasn't a wait so we went on in. This is a family owned place that uses local ingredients so what's not to like? Our server was awesome and she walked us through the menu and got wine and beer out fast. Wine pours are great and they have a decent selection of beers on tap as well as a full bar. On the menu they have the usual suspects: burgers, steaks, fish and chips, lamb, grilled items, etc. Everyone enjoyed their meal and it wasn't too expensive. Normally when I see Porterhouse I think steakhouse and then I think pricey and/or pretentious and it was neither. They also have a 3 course menu if you are leaning in that direction. Stayed in Killarney for 2 nights out of a 9 day trip in Ireland. We ate dinner at The Porterhouse both nights. The food was outstanding. The first night we tried the mussels which were cooked perfectly and had a ton of flavor. The waitress was extremely friendly and the atmosphere was very warm and comfortable with Irish music playing throughout the restaurant. The second night we had burgers which were the best I've ever had. They were cooked exactly like we requested the fries came in cute little baskets and everything was served quickly. I highly recommend giving visiting here if you travel to Killarney, I can't wait to return. read more

This place was very busy -- and rightfully so. But when you got to your table, be ready for a joyous dinner. The chicken, stew and lamb leg were all quite delicious and in big portions. The service was very good, staff smiling pleasantly, asking if everything's ok, tending to my need understandingly, despite heavy workload. I was here alone and sat at one of the small tables closest to the musician on both occasions. They got solo singer/player on guitar, very different from the loud bands at other places. Ray was in the soft rock style while the other night a country guy with a voice akin to Garth Brookes. Both were very good. I ordered additional ales and stayed longer just to enjoy the music and take in the wonderful atmosphere. So lucky to get my favorite The High Kings album from the record store next door and then had the singer song The Parting Glass for me on my last night in Ireland! We came here on a recommendation from the hotel we were staying in, and what a great recommendation it was! Our daughter is lactose intolerant and discovered they have the BEST vegan potato skins as well as vegan chocolate cake. She was in heaven! Porterhouse experience was really good. We were a group of 13 trying to eat at 10pm. The staff worked to accommodate our group by pulling tables together, and possible leaving the kitchen open a little later. Menu is suited to appease omnivores and vegans alike. I was informed by a local that this place was great and we were lucky to get a table. Seeing as how the owner is a butcher, I thought getting the steak fillet would be a good choice. It wasn't bad. But it wasn't great. Steak was burned on the outside and over cooked. I asked for medium and it was served close to well done. Baked potato had way too much garlic on it. Service was slow and the waitress never asked if we wanted another drink nor checked in on the table after the food was served. Loved the atmosphere, but we just had an average experience. read more

Very nice environment. Staff was super friendly and the restaurant was very comfortable. This is my first trip to Ireland so comparing food in the states to here is difficult. Went in for dinner with family. 2 caesar salads were very good, hubby had prawn fajitas, also good. Different from fajitas in states as these actually tasted a little like chinese food. We were so blown away with the whole experience here. The atmosphere is fun and there was fab live music. The best part of the whole experience was the food, we are vegans and expect maybe one or two things on most menus to be suitable for us. There were loads of delicious options that were entirely vegan, right down the the beer and desserts. After seeing our order in the kitchen, the manager took special care to come and check on us and see how we liked our meal. This place is great for vegans, carnivores, and everything in between. This restaurant is a local favorite as well as a tourist destination. I highly recommend this place and will be returning as soon as possible. read more

My husband and I went here for dinner while honeymooning in Killarney. All of our food was delicious. He ordered the scampi special as the appetizer and I had a caeser salad. Both were great, and my salad was honestly one of the best I have ever had. The portion was also large, had to stop myself and leave room for dinner. For our mains, my husband had the salmon and I had the lamb stew. We both enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. There was a musician playing which fit the mood and not too loud so we could still talk. We were there late in May. The Doorman at the Park Plaza recommended it, and we are extremely appreciative that he did. My wife and I had Fish and Chips. Wow, the best fish ever. Perfectly battered cod. Not greasy at all. Service was phenomenal and the beer wasn't half bad either. As a vegan diner I'm usually thrilled to find one item on the menu. Imagine my surprise when Porterhouse had multiple appetizers, entrées, and desserts. I had nut loaf with baked potato and a side of roasted carrots and parsnips. My partner had the tagliatelle. We shared an appetizer of potato skins. Everything was delicious. Absolutely exceptional. Everything we had was wonderful. My mom and I had the goats cheese tart (so good) and my brother had the steak sandwich which he said was very good and my dad had the chicken dish which was very good as well.
