We enjoyed a Kick Ass Meal here, which was maybe our best restaurant experience during our 2 week stay in Ireland. "Bricín" is known for traditional Irish food like boxty. The name "Bricín" is Irish for "little trout" and is also the name of a stone bridge in Killarney National Park. The restaurant was established by the McGuire brothers, who restored the building with antique timber and stained glass. The restaurant is upstairs from a gift shop that I believe the owners also operate. We had made reservations and once upstairs, we were personally greeted and welcomed by maybe one of the brothers. Mary was our wait person for the evening, who we found to be warm, friendly, and attentive. We were also seated at a nice corner table (#14) that allowed the right amount of dining privacy with a very attractive room. Bricín offers a fixed price meal (appetizer, main, and dessert) for 46 Euro and an "Early Bird" special for 34 Euros. We opted to order off the Menu as follows: - Hake and Salmon Gratin (Fern) - Boxty (House Specialty) - Traditional Irish potato pancake, cooked on the griddle with mixed salad and a choice of meat (Don) - Rack of Kerry Lamb (Gayle Loves Lamb!) - Thai Red Chicken Curry with Thai jasmine rice (Eric) - Adult Beverages (Wines) - Spanish Rueda (White), Pinot Grigio, Siegel Reserva (Chilean Merlot), and another Merlot. - Split 2 Desserts (One Special) plus teas and coffee. It was all a wonderful dining experience, when food, atmosphere, service, and good company all become greater than the sum of its parts. A great place to sample some traditional yet elevated Irish dishes. Reservations are highly recommended, as the first time we called to see if they had openings that evening they were full. The upstairs restaurant is decorated with antique furniture and scenic paintings that make it feel like you've stepped into a charming old inn. I tried a boxy for the first time and would describe it to an American as a thin potato pancake with chicken pot pie filling. The scallion and leek tart was noteworthy, but the rack of lamb could have been a bit more tender. What not to love! The best service we encountered in Ireland. Our waitress could not have been more pleasant and attentive. Excellent decor and space. Had the spring rolls as well as the filet and boxty. Spring rolls were quite a small portion but had great flavor with a lovely Thai peanut sauce. Probably the finest meal I enjoyed my whole trip to Ireland. We came here for my birthday dinner abroad and the service was impeccable and the atmosphere in the restaurant was fancy without being pretentious. It was lush and comfortable and I loved it. I had the steamed mussels served with a garlic butter broth so amazing I drank the leftover like it was a soup. My chicken tarragon boxty was so flavorful and perfectly made I am sad I won't be able to have this meal again anytime I want. The pints were superb and when my dessert was served the staff had the entire restaurant sing to me and everyone did with smiles. It was so touching I nearly cried. If you are a tourist an you aren't sure what to order, I 100% recommended trying the Boxty. When me and my friends came here recently I was pretty excited. We had previously been hanging in Dublin for awhile and were really looking forward to getting away from the city and having a more traditional meal. From the minute you walk and see the decor you'll definitely feel the like you went back in time but in a good way. When we got there a nice gentleman asked if we had reservations and we said unfortunately no. However he quickly replied that we are "a pleasant surprise." It was from this point that I knew I was going to have an amazing dinner. Don't ask me why. We passed by numerous of tables and as we passed nearby workers, either they greeted us or passed by with a smile. This place just reaffirmed why I loved this country so much. Everyone was just looked so damn happy and it just made me feel so warm. We were sat at the table and shortly after we ordered. Now I ordered the Oven Roasted Duck Breast. It was amazing and also recommend. I think up to this point I had been eating a lot of heavy meat so I wanted to dial it back a little bit. I will also say that I loved the colcannon. I love potato but definitely despise unwanted greens. However I loved these potatoes. There was never a bit where I was like, "Mannnnn...Why put greens in your potatoes?" There was a slight creaminess to them..somehow? I don't know what was all in it. I don't even know if they do put greens but any bite I had of those potatoes was pure bliss. Just like the Duck. I mean it was already good on its own but then you add the port wine reduction and it takes you to flavor-town. Speaking of flavor-town... Lets talk Boxty. So first time here? Get the boxty. Been here before? Cool. Get the Boxty. Don't know what to order. I got you. GET THE BOXTY. Quit playing with me man. Oh and get it with the lamb. Don't chicken out. But seriously the restaurant describes it as a potato pancake which is pretty close. But I almost would compare it to an omelette or omurice. You have this perfectly cooked potato omelette but when you break the contents and get to the treasure inside...my god...Now I know some people are going to say some comment about Lamb and gamey and that's why "blah blah blah." Just throw it out the window. Just do it. Order the Boxty with the Lamb. I promise it will change your perspective on the meat itself. Technically it even has help because they cook it in a curry sauce to get even more flavors out of the dish itself. Did I mention all of this is wrapped in a potato omelette? Ugh...you just have to order this an experience the magic yourself. When I come back to Ireland, Bricin is definitely at the top of the list to come back to. read more

Catching up on Yelp reviews as I visited Bricin back in October while I was on a family holiday. Bricin is rated as one of the best restaurants in Killarney and it did not disappoint! The ambiance was a cute/cozy restaurant upstairs above the shop. Literally felt like you were in someone's house and it felt like traditional Irish. We did not make a reservation as we went at opening on a Tuesday night. But I would highly recommend making a reservation as we were lucky enough to get a table by walking-in and the place is pretty small. We ordered a mix of the 2 & 3-course early bird specials for €27-€30. I had the seafood chowder, bruschetta, and Boxty with Irish Lamb. The seafood chowder was excellent. It was very rich and very creamy with big chunks of seafood (with mussels). The brown bread was the best brown bread that I had in Ireland as it was sweeter and softer. Most of the brown breads that I had in Ireland were too dry. This was the first time that I had Boxty and I thought it was amazing! The vegetables were very fresh. The marinated/brown sauce was very flavorful and the beef was really good too! The Boxty was very soft and fluffy with great flavor. For dessert, we ordered the special, Banoffee Pie. It was amazing and it really hit the spot! For drinks, I was drinking Irish whiskey the entire time and they had a good list. Lisa, our server, was friendly and great! Prices were a little more expensive for Killarney, but I thought they were reasonable for how good the food was. They offer complimentary soda bread and ehite bread - freshly made so delicious! Our daughter also seemed to have loved Bricin as she is a very picky eater and survived on fries the entire trip. But here she ate more in one meal than she did in rest of the week. We tried the banofee cake per their recommendation and it was delicious. Bricin is a cute and cozy restaurant in Killarney for some comforting Irish food. We made reservations earlier in the day for dinner that evening. Because the restaurant is only open for dinner I spoke with the woman in the gift shop on the main floor and she provided assistance with the reservation. (I recommend taking some time to look around the store as they have some really nice items for sale.) I started the dinner with the soup of the day, which was made with peas, potatoes, and pesto. It was delicious and well seasoned. My main course was the duck. That dish was well made and slightly pink, as I had requested. A generous dish of mashed potatoes and vegetables came with the entree. This restaurant is known for boxtys (potato pancake) which I saw many others ordering. This was one of my favorite meals in Ireland. The dishes were delicious comfort foods without being too heavy and were well prepared and well seasoned. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food and service. The staff there was very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is not hip or flashy and does not appear to cater specifically to tourists. It's a local gem. I highly recommend Bricin. read more

It was a bit loud where we sat due to 2 large parties, but I enjoyed a traditional Irish boxty for the first time which was amazing!! All the food was really great! The service was great! This restaurant came highly recommended and we made a reservation for 9 people. You enter the building and the ground floor is a gift shop which you walk through to go upstairs to the restaurant. We needed to wait a bit for our table but that's ok, no big deal. The food was great and the group had a mix of dishes. Service was very slow and not all that friendly, therefore the 4-star rating. Acknowledging we had a party of 9, but 2 tables of 6 sat down after us and all were served before us. Surprisingly good and simple. 3) lamb Boxty - a nice/simple dish and unique to the area, but not something I'd order again. 4) Rack of Lamb - cooked medium, the star of the show...wonderful flavor, perfectly seasoned and cooked, w/ lovely sauce. Recommended by the owner and truly exquisite. 5) Dessert - fruit crumble with warm custard and fresh whipped cream. Wonderfully light, satisfying and not too sweet. Recommend. 6) Espresso - nice and smooth, but not as bold as Italian (FYI)...a bit expensive IMO. Total Price - around 60 euros for two people. Appetizers: Crab claws, to die for The Camembert cheese, spring rolls, crab cake arancini were all delightful and perfect sharing sizes For dinner we had the beef, ratatouille And the chicken Boxsty were all AMAZING and comforting. Bricin is a shining example of lovely rural Irish hospitality. We will start with the food. All five mains were perfectly cooked and delicious. The Boxty was a time capsule taking me back to 1850s Killarney. The scallops came with SEVEN perfectly cooked, large scallops, and a beautiful dipping sauce. This took me too long to post. Do you ever have one of those meals on vacation that you always remember and can't wait to go back when you are in he area? Bricin was and is still one of them. We first came here 4 years ago during our first stay in Killarney. We each had the Stronganoff boxty. (Boxty is an Irish potato pancake with a filling such as beef, lamb, etc). It was amazing & so good. We had another boxty in Dublin and it didn't compare. After 4 years, we still talked about this meal as one of our best meals in Ireland. I knew we'd be back the next time we were in Killarney. Four years later, we were back. Our second time in we were smart enough to make advance reservations (they are highly recommended). Bricin did not disappoint. Sure enough, the Stronganoff Boxty was a delicious as we remembered. The filling was rich, earth and beefy. The boxty itself had a nice crust and texture. While normally my husband and I get different items to try more, neither one of us wanted to share the Stroganoff boxty. We immediately told Johnny (co-owner and host) that we wanted to return for the second night we had in Killarney. This time we did the chicken and lamb boxty. The chicken filling had a creaminess that paired well with the tarragon and the lamb had a nice but balanced kick of curry. Service has always been excellent. Johnny is there to greet everyone. You feel as though you've been welcomed into his home and are part of the family. Lisa took great care of us both nights and was attentive but not overbearing. I can tell you, the next time I'm in the Killarney area, I'll be back at Bricin. I only hope it is sooner than later. Go, say hi to Johnny, and you will not be disappointed. read more
