Like the other reviews about this location looks can be deceiving. Yes the building is next to a laundromat however the food is cooked fresh right when you order. The Mac and cheese bites are so delicious, that alone is a meal! I ordered the 6 piece shrimp and the pieces were HUGE! Lightly breaded and not greasy! Hole in the wall joints like this one is a hidden gem, I would return several times! If you have the entertainment book there is a coupon inside. I sadly forgot to use mine but now that gives me an excuse to come back! Inside they do have a large TV so you can watch the game and there is also a nice patio outside. read more

Dive-like appearance on the outside but very clean inside. Small patio area for eating outside. Each meal meal comes with a giant onion ring and a hush puppy. Crispies is excellent. I don't know why some people would be surprised by the location or smell- it's cheap fish 'n chips. It smells like fry oil and fish, silly! I've worked in quite a few restaurants, and this one is CLEAN. The fixtures and such may be old, but they are obviously cared for. The shrimp was perfectly crispy and not over cooked. Spent a lot of money just to get food poisoning. And way overpriced for the poor quality of food anyways. The potato salad was just weird, to say the least. The shrimp was pretty good, the chicken wasn't terrible, the fish was meh, and the hush puppies sucked. it's just ok. I have a big family in England and spend quite a bit of time in the UK. I know my fish and chips and absolutely love the idea of small, Mom and Pop owned Chippy shops. At Crispy's they serve you a hybrid between pre-packaged frozen fillets and store bought fish sticks. The fillets back in the UK are HUGE and the batter is not as dry as Crispy's, the texture is not the same. They just cook it differently. Everything is deep, deep fried to perfection. A bit too much for my taste. Don't expect British pies or sausage here. Like I said, it's just a different concept. Zucchini fries and hush puppies are delicious. Shrimp is good. There's no pickles or pickled eggs like back in the UK. No one beats my favorite Canyon's Crown when it comes to fish and chips. Maybe, later, but not now. read more

Crispy's was a pleasant surprise. I am a big fan of fish and chips and this is the best I have found so far in the area. This place is nothing fancy at all. The dining furniture consists of plastic picnic table/benches all in ones. The menu is very basic and they have fish, chicken, wings, and shrimp. The sides are fries, coleslaw, and potato salad and a few others. The drinks are all canned sodas. When we arrived most of the tables were occupied with people waiting for to go orders and was fairly busy. Busy usually means good and with the prior reviews we had high hopes. We were not disappointed. I went with the four piece cod combo that had fish, fries, coleslaw, and a canned soda. My wife went with the three piece chicken combo. We split an order of hush puppies that was served in a basket that had several in it (largest portion we have ever seen). The food is cooked to order so it tastes fresh. Even the fries were a winner here. It might take a little bit longer but it's worth the wait. As I watched my food prepared I could see they were doing a little extra in the preparation of it and they were taking pride in what they were doing. The cost was 20 bucks for two and we were full, satisfied, and totally enjoyed our meal. The owner took the time to ask us how we liked it. I would rate this as the second best fish and chips I have had in the state of Arizona and the best in Tucson. We will eat here again. As the saying goes don't judge a book by its cover. A brand new fish and chips shop opened where Dagwood's used to be! We tried a 4-piece cod combo and 8 wings. The fish was juicy and tender and perfectly cooked; I think the fryer might not have been turned up high enough because the breading wasn't too crispy. Wings were basic but good. Fries were perfect. Food comes with ample sauces: 2 cups of ketchup for the wings, 3 tartars and 5 lemon wedges for the fish (finally! someone who gives you enough lemon!), and 2 ranch dressings plus a big tub of hot sauce for the wings. The combo also comes with a drink from the cooler--we had a Squirt. They were not equipped to give me a cup of water when I asked, though eventually, when I forced they issue, they gave me some tap water in a styrofoam takeaway tub. The kitchen is wide open, so you can see the cook, who is also the owner, working the grill and assembling the meals. Good potential. We'll be willing to come back again. read more

OK. We were wont to be suspicious of this place, even like not like it, but I gotta tell you...three times is the charmer here. First off, we were fans of Daggwoods, the establishment that haunted that location off and on for years. When Daggwoods was up and running, the sandwiches were inventive and amazing. Then one day they just stayed closed. Bummer. Then a few months ago, a sign went up toting something called Taco Loco and we were all "Really? Another taco joint in this area? One right across the street from Food City and a taqueria?" Thing is, they had a hook: Taco Loco DELIVERED tacos. Holy crap. Tacos and burritos delivered right to my face? I'm in. It took a while but when they finally opened I was first in line. Well...like first to call. The food wasn't bad but, man, they delivered! It was so great. Then something not so great happened. Just four days into being opened someone got shot in the parking lot, the same one they share with a laundromat, some online gaming place and a dive bar. Taco Loco shut its doors and remained locked for a while. Then another sign went up: Crispys Fish n Chips. And then we were all, "Really? Fish n chips? In this neighborhood?" Again it took a while for them to re-open but when they did, I was first in line. I had to order the namesake; two piece fish with fries and coleslaw and to my shock and awe, it was really tasty. And cheap. I brought the same order to my wife who thought the same. Alright, we said. Let's see what these kids can do. On Wednesdays (or is it Tuesdays?) they boast .59 cent wing night, so we ordered a bunch in different sauces. Again, the shock and awe. They were meaty, juicy and the sauces ranged from tangy to sweet to almost burn-y. Crap, we said. This place is alright. Driving by the other night we noticed it was pretty full and they now had a sign advertising fish tacos. That sounded really good on a fairly chilly evening, so we ordered a bunch and dug in. Once again, man, we thought....this stuff is good. Big hunks of fish battered and fried to perfection with fresh salsa and slaw on perfectly grilled tortillas. That's it, we said. This place is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. On said fish taco night I just had to ask the owner why the big leap from a taco delivery place to fish n chips. Was it the shooting? No, he assured me, but it was a wake up call. Like we had thought earlier, it was taco saturation in an area writhe with good Mexican fare. Sure they serve tacos, but there isnt a decent fish and chip place within... Oh wait, the Boondocks has their Friday night fish fry and that is some bomb fish n chips. But thats a bar; no kids allowed. Here though, everyone is welcome. So there you go! We are a fan of Crispys Fish n Chips. Its near my work, its near our home and we will definitely be back. We have been going to this place since they opened. Initially we loved it. Good quality and portion size. The last two times have been VERY disappointing!! The quality has taken a steep dive. I got the fish tacos tonight and realized they have changed. They used to have a whole deep fried piece of fish in each taco. Now you can't even find the fish in the taco. It's stuffed with cabbage and TINY pieces of chopped fish. It's basically a vegetarian taco. The coleslaw was warm at best. I used to really like it,not so much any longer. I threw mine away. My wife and I knew about this place because of the prior taco joint that had popped up and disappeared in what felt like a matter of days, so we were really suspect about the quality of this "new" restaurant. I wanted to sample both the chicken and fish, as those would be good contrasts in regards to if I'd return, my wife in turn had shrimp. The price was comparable to similar establishments, so no complaints there, and the wait was well worth what came out of the kitchen. From the first bite, I knew we had made the right choice. The breading had just the right consistency, and made for a proper crunch without overpowering the meat. Both proteins were cooked to perfection, neither was over cooked or underdone. The hush puppies that were included were very good, and were cooked just right. In regards to the sauces included, I usually don't drown my food in extras, so the included tartar sauce, lemon slices, and ketchup was all In needed. Although I might use one of their several hot sauces available if I try the fried wings. All in all, I would return here if i'm near by again. Most legit chippy in town. Crispy's may not be "British-grade," but it's by far the closest I've come in Tucson. The batter is generally crispy (like it says on the sign! I know, right?!) and the cod inside is hot and soft and disintegrates beautifully. That said, it's clearly a recently opened mom-and-pop kind of deal and it seems like they're still figuring out how to run things, so quality can be inconsistent. I've gone there a several times now and at least once it's been a bit toooo crispy. Also they've been known to run out of supplies and decide to change fryer oil right when you get there (But hey, at least you know the oil's clean). Their lead time is too long in my opinion, especially in the evenings when they're busy. I'd recommend calling your order in before and picking it up. I dislike that I liked this place so much ;) Fried everything goodness and after reading the reviews we lucked out on the chicken because it was juicy and not at all dry like others have mentioned. We ordered take out for a late lunch and tried the chicken and shrimp and both were cooked perfectly and not a bit overdone. The batter is underwhelming but some hot sauce and ranch took care of that. Hush puppies were ok and fries were meh but I can live without those. Horrible 1st experience. The people in line in front of us had issues. I had a coupon for 20% off the entire bill. When I got to the table. I noticed that they only took off for one meal. Upon request the manager gave a refund. When it was ready. We were told then that the cheesecake was out when we should of been told when we ordered. They forgot our sodas. The Cole slaw tasted like ice Berg lettuce. My gf didn't like fish. I got a refund on the cheesecake and tip. I love the Broadway location. If I eat at Crispys again.
