I had no idea about this chain but it was highly recommended on my trip to Tucson, As a kid in So Cal, I ate El Pollo Loco at least once a week. There's a special place in my brain that gets very happy when I eat salsa, rice, beans, and flour tortillas. Eating our #6 10 piece dark meat meal hit the spot today. I pull up to the drive-thru, order the Wednesday special, and receive my heavy box of chicken and sides from a friendly employee wearing a mask. Before I drove away from Chicken Nuevo on the Wednesday before Christmas, I was met with exceptional warmth by an employee who wished me a safe Christmas. Chicken Nuevo, as a whole, is friendly and reliable with delicious chicken. The food is made consistently well. Chicken Nuevo's chicken is never burnt or dry. Instead, the chicken is smoky and seasoned to perfection. The sides are also decent. Although the complimentary jalapeno is a bit too spicy for me, its grilled flavor is appreciated. Chicken Nuevo, unlike some of its competitors, never messes up my order. I can drive home confidently without checking the bag to avoid mishaps. Protip: come on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Tuesdays, you can get three free tacos if you order the three taco meal. On Wednesdays, you get a free half chicken if you order a whole chicken meal. Today I came here for lunch wanting to try this type of food. I ordered the #4 Half chicken combo which came with 1 breast, 1 thigh, 1 leg, 1 wing, salsa, 3 tortillas, 2 sides, and a drink. I got the rice and refried beans with a Sierra Mist for my drink and flour for my tortillas. Everything was absolutely fantastic from the service to the food tasting hot and fresh to even the great prices. Can't believe I've lived here almost 4 years without coming here! Warning: dishonest business. Owner Javier Garcia believes it's okay to charge customers in the drive thru a fee for using a card to pay without warning them, then charges their card anyway when they refuse to buy. Then when they return for a refund for the food they never took, he offers food instead of money, saying he had to throw away the food you refused to buy because of his shady business practices. Frankly, if his food is anything like his ethics, you're better off avoiding both. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE!!! I had stopped by on the way home to pick up dinner. When I got home I served the food and there was a hair in the chicken! I called them to see if what they could do for me. The lady on the phone told me to bring it back (with the hair) to see what they can do for me. I drove all the way back for just to have the cook argue with me and said it was impossible for that to happen. He was very disrespectful and rude. He refused to replace the chicken or give me a refund. I don't understand why they would have me drive back when they knew they would not replace the food or give me a refund. You better check what you had ordered before driving home. They used to give you some flour tortillas with your order of chicken, beans & rice. Now they charge. If you want something separate they will charge you for the extra container. They used to have a sign that said ask if you would like a jalapeno, now they charge you $2.00 for just one. We ordered three separate plates of 5 Tacos and three sides of beans and one order of rice. When we got home we only had (3) 5 Tacos and 1 extra (small) beans, not three. The salad was supposed to be placed in a separate box which we were charged for, to allow the tacos to remain warm for our 45 minute drive home. Our other order was missing the rice. This is the 4th time that we have been disappointed and cheated out of what we paid. We spend approx $300.00 a month or more at this place. We have now chosen to seek out a different location. Maybe go to El Pollo Loco. Sad because they used to be so good, but have gotten so careless. When I pointed out that I would like the salad in a different container along with the Parmesan cheese and sour cream they said I would have to pay additionally, which I agreed, because I understand the costs of the extra containers. They charged me an extra $1.00 for the additional containers, but I saw the cook was angry and flinging his arms in the air. Got home and saw that the salad was all on top of the tacos making them super cold. No extra containers that I paid for, just all shoved in together. So don't make the cook angry!!! I will no longer go to this place. They are missing out on $3,600 a year of our business. I guess they don't care. I paid over $45.00 for three meals trying to impress my brother-in-law to convince him that this place was the bomb. He said he would rather go to another establishment after this experience. He is fond of Spanish rice which he didn't get and his tacos were smothered in cold salad. I never complain but this was the last straw. I feel like I was over-charged about $10.00. I can go to a restaurant and get full service for the price that they charge. I have met the owner a few times and he was a nice guy, I don't think he knows that his business is going down hill. Delicious grilled chicken! Similar to the likes of Pollo Feliz only much closer to my house :) This is a great alternative to the fried chicken we have gotten on lazy Sundays when it's too much to travel over a mile from our house lol. I love that they grill their chicken outside on their patio so you can smell it driving up. BUYER BEWARE!!!! Do not spend your money here!!! I got charged twice! Over 40 dollars charged on my card for no reason. RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE from manager Sophia. I went through the drive through with my family ordered a couple items and some drinks. Customer service was very rude from beginning ,was rushed. I was told the total of 42 dollars and change gave them my card. I asked for a itemized receipt because they didn't give me one they acted like it was the biggest inconvenience. I left and realized they charged me double two different amounts not even double of the same amount which was VERY shady to me. I went back to talk to them and ask them what's going on ,I've worked in the customer service food industry for over 10 years so I understand sometimes mistakes are made over charges voids etc. I would of totally been okay if they admitted it was a mistake and cleared things up for me , But instead the manager Sophia gave me attitude and said she has no idea why the second charge was on there that she didn't charge it twice.
