I eat quite a bit of Mediterranean food and found Crazy 4 Falafel very lacking. First if all the Jerusalem platter and other platters come with only a single pita. Pitas were over baked. Baba ganoush and Hummus were not seasoned well. Very bland. Chicken and Lamb Schawarma extremely dry. Missed 2 items from our order and had to call Somerset store because Edison store phone busy for 20 minutes. When we arrived at store no offer of apologies. Had high hopes for this place. Pictures looked great, menu was simple, good overall rating. Unfortunately, it was a bit underwhelming. Pros: not too pricy, good portion sizes, fast service, friendly service, place looked clean Cons: food was either too salty or bland I ordered the Jerusalem platter. You get a generous amount of baba ganush and hummus with 3 falafel. The presentation was nice and the food looked fresh. However, after tasting I was left feeling a little emptier. The hummus was very thick in consistency almost paste-like (not necessarily a bad characteristics but not my preferred consistency) and bland. The falafel , on the other hand, had a great consistency and crunch on the outside, but was very salty. The baba ganush was fine though I'm no expert on that. I did enjoy the tabuli! Was light and refreshing. The pita is interestingly cake like. Very fluffy and a bit denser than most. Again probably a preference thing but not for me. They're fast, casual, cheap, and offer plentiful portions... the perfect formula for what I thought would be great takeout. I was at a toss up between the Jerusalem platter and chicken shawarma, but I haven't had good shawarma in a while so shawarma for the win! But the chicken shawarma was no winner in my book. While the tahini and hot sauce jazzed it up, the chicken itself was pretty bland and dry. And the search for good shawarma continues... Side Note: I absolutely love baklava and felt like treating myself to some, but the gentleman behind the counter said he only had the combo dessert available (1 of everything). So I said eh what the hell, let's do this. At the last minute when he had my order ready, he almost forgot to throw in the dessert until I reminded him. Of course the container I got had NO baklava. This is a review after my 3rd visit to the Talmadge road store. Crazy 4 Felafal is a classic example of taking over something successful and messing it up to the core. They had one of the best Lamb Shawarma and Felafal balls. When we started going there in 2015(I believe it had newly open. I maybe wrong). The Felafals were the talk in our click whether it be my office or our circle of friends and family. Light crispy and exceptionally flavorful. Same can be said about the Lamb Shawarma perfectly cooked on the vertical spit. Fast forward 2022 I believe it was taken over by someone else and ruined it to the ground where the Felafals are over fried, raw and dense in the middle and not to forget salty as hell. The lamb is no longer cooked on the vertical rotisserie but cut up and mixed with weird overpowering spices and the rice is Basmati. They introduced various other items on the menu which looses the core concept and flavors. I am pretty sure their business is doing good and wont make a difference if they lose mine. We just finished an unsatisfactory meal at a nearby Joe's Crab Shack and came here for a second and hopefully more satisfactory lunch. The name made me question authenticity of this place, but don't be scared away by it. I had some of the best falafel and pita here. That is saying a lot because I've had some pretty good falafel in NYC. Falafel and Hummus Platter - Cheap and worth every cent. Only wish they gave more falafel balls or made the falafel bigger. They were quite small compared to the amount of hummus given Falafel - I think it's hard to find good falafel that's both crispy, not overly dry, and retains the flavors of garlic and herb. The falafel here has all of that. It had a good crispy outer shell from being freshly fried (not just reheated like a lot of places), but still remained moist in the inside. The taste was amazing and even better than Taim in NYC and I absolutely love Taim. Pita Bread - Perfect complement to the falafel. The pita was so fluffy, warm, and soft. You can get an extra one for about $.75. Best $.75 you'll ever spend. Hummus - Just like the falafel and pita, this tastes homemade and very fresh. They put some delicious herbs and spices on top, but could have done without the extra olive oil, but I guess that's a traditional preparation? As a snack we also ordered the Turkish Burek. I highly recommend to get this. It's basically this flaky dough encasing a spinach and cheese filling. Very tasty and the piece is huge. Easily shareable with three people. Wish they were in NYC instead of Edison, but then again the food would probably be more expensive. But to me at least, this place is definitely worth the trip. read more

When I first came in the staff was very friendly and attentive and quick with the order I got the chicken shawarma platter and it was delicious there were a few crispy pieces of chicken but nothing hard and the rice was nice and fluffy also the pita bread was warm, thick and soft not a thin shell like some other places. The reason for only four stars is because there were flies in the place I'm sure some of them landing on food but I'm going to not think about that and just remember the delicious food also the place was cold. I mean it was a cold day but it may be a good idea to pump up the heat in the place because my food is getting cold as I got to the last bites. Also the place could use an update in decor. read more

Having had falafel and shawarma elsewhere, I feel this place no longer provides good value. Food is of decent quality but I feel generally lacks flavor. At least when I got falafel, didn't feel like it was crispy enough and eh kinda mushy. Shawarma tended to be on the drier side for me and lacked spice. Baklava is good but then again when is baklava not good? If I absolutely wanted to fill a craving of falafel or shawarma then I'd come here. This place served very delicious food! First time here and I was impressed. It's very pleasant, not an actual full restaurant. But, I liked the vibes and the atmosphere. The cooks and cashier were very nice and funny. I ordered the Jerusalem platter and they actually gave me two different styles of hummus. One regular hummus and one hummus with roasted red pepper. So this is a rough one because I think the taste of the food you eat, should be accompanied by an appropriate atmosphere. There is no need for your place to look like a complete shithole, dirty, open electrical junction boxes, separated flooring, boxes piled up, and your vertical grills!!!!! They are a mess. The one that has the chicken on it is completely misfiring. The one with the lamb isn't even spinning. I don't know if I have to get into any further detail about how disgusting it is inside. I will just include the pictures. On to my next point, it saddens me to say that the other owner must have left the recipes because the food is still very good. I had the falafel and they are the best around. The chicken that is barely spinning on the misfiring vertical is seasoned well and tastes amazing. To the owner, please clean up your place. Went recently in July 22, 2021 New people were Indians. I think they are new owners. Ordered the lunch special of lamb with rice. Ate food but most of lamb meat was not eatable and was fats & veins. This only had banana for breakfast and food from crazy 4falafel. 2 hours later stomach was turning. Went to sleep and woke up 2am with severe stomach pain. Drank a lot of water and felt better. Talmadge Road, Edison location The restaurant has changed owners and it shows. The menu looks that same (prices are 10-15% higher) but the food is not the same. I ordered the falafel in a pita and it was BAD. The salad had too much lemon juice and the falafel balls did not taste the same and were over fried. Even the pita was over toasted and stiff. My friend had the falafel on a bed of salad and the salad looked like it left over from a few days ago. The new owners need to take a good look at their operation as they have lost us as customers (we had be frequenting this establishment for the last 8 years) The new owners have kept the name but everything else is second rate. read more

Lets start with the bread - they have probably the best pita pocket bread ever : no leaky pita, nothing falls apart, everything (veggies, meats, sauce) fits nice and snuggly in the bread pouch. If I could I'd actually give this place a 2 1/2, it definitely could not get a 3. Unless some of the high ratings are mixed in with how the food was under previous owners, I wouldn't understand why this place received 4 stars. My wife and I are no picky eaters either by the way. I saved the worst for last. The utter lack of flavor could have been salvaged by your typical Mediterranean white sauce...friends...fellow yelpers & foodies...that sauce was so tasteless that I think I was emotionally damaged after pouring it on my food. I think off white paint would've have served this meal better. By the way, points very well taken off for charging an additional .59¢ for extra sauce. The best falafel pita sandwich hands down. The falafel is crunchy and fresh and there is something divine about the ingredients that they put in the sandwich. I literally drive 20 mins out of my way every day to have this. I have been doing this on weekdays for the past few months and still find myself craving this sandwich on the weekend. I used to seriously love this place. Their falafel was soooo good. I mean they seriously tasted like meatballs. It was amazing. Unfortunately after ordering today I must say the food is seiously lacking in flavor now. Their hummus is literally mashed chick peas. It didnt even taste like it had any salt. Their falafels are ok but very dry and small. Grainy and not mixed well. Im very disappointed that theres another restaurant that will fall off of my rotation of orders. Its a shame. read more

I will be the first person to admit I do not like falafel. I've never liked it, and yes- I've tried it at every place you swear is "the best," including Israel. I do not like falafel. So why was I at a store called "Crazy 4 Falafel" and why have I given them 5 stars? Well My wife does like falafel, so sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do and get some falafel. I got her falafel in a pita, and her only complaint was that the mix-ins, Israeli salad/humus/cabbage/sauce, were not all evenly distributed and it was like eating 1 layer at a time. I had a bite in the Israeli salad level and the lettuce/sauce level and yea, still not a falafel fan. The shining star was the hummus platter. Now hummus I do like, and sabra hummus suits me just fine. Holy crap was I selling myself short if this is what homemade hummus tastes like! It was so good, and what ever the hell was on top of it was also amazing- eggplant maybe? I got the hummus platter with 4 falafel balls and the hummus was so good I actually ate an entire falafel ball with the hummus and liked it. That said, I left the other 3 for the wife, and ate more with the pita, which was very thick but super tasty. 100% this is my hummus spot for hosting guests. read more
