This is always the spot for my family and I whenever we're coming in from out of town! The crawfish is amazing and honestly all of the food is consistently so good. On top of that, the service is always great. This last visit really stood out because of our waitress, Cindy M. She took such great care of our big family, stayed on top of everything, and made sure everyone was happy the entire time. She was so kind, attentive, and handled our group like a pro. It's gets busy during dinner time, so go early. Started off with crawfish egg rolls, just ok. I should have tried the crawfish cheese bread. We tried red beans and rice with sausage (pretty good), smack pack (I am not a fan of the fried rice), crawfish étouffée (pretty good), and for dessert we have the beignet. Next time I want the garlic noodles, wings, and a boil! The only thing we wish was different was that we had more water refills. Crawfish Cafe is a hip, cool, and laid-back establishment serving up seafood favorites and great customer service in the greater 290 Cypress area. This is not a fancy restaurant or a quiet and serene dining establishment where famous French Chef Helene Darroze is creating a magical dish consisting of lobster with carrots, citrus, and tandoori spices. It is in fact, the exact opposite, which is not a bad thing at all. It merely depends on what type of atmosphere one is in the mood to experience. My husband, daughter, and I became acquainted with this business on a Saturday evening around 6:00 pm and the dining room was half full. Our host, Frankie, who also turned out to be our waiter for the evening was extremely hospitable, professional, and welcoming. So, five stars rating on the customer service. It was awesome! Next, the dining area was nice and clean and I did not see or feel any food crumbs underneath my feet because the floors were clean. The overall presentation and ambience of the restaurant was inviting and highly energetic with nice musical tunes spewing out of overhead speakers. The music noise level was moderate to slightly noisy which made one speak a tad bit loudly to be heard in conversations. So, with that being said, the presentation, ambience, and cleanliness is a four star rating. Moreover, we started the evening with two starters, crawfish egg rolls and crawfish mini empanadas. For our drinks, we had the frozen peach and watermelon margaritas which were very tasty but not enough on the liquor. So, 3 stars out of five on the margaritas. The crawfish egg rolls were delicious, so 4 stars out of five, and the crawfish empanadas were okay, a little on the salty side, so 3 out of five. Next, for our entrees, we ordered the boiled snow crab legs with corn, crawfish, and potatoes, the fried Catfish Po-boy with sweet potato fries, and a fried seafood platter consisting of oysters, shrimp, catfish, hush puppies, and fried rice. My husband said that the Catfish Po-boy was okay and could have been better with more fish. There was not enough fish to bread ratio which made the experience a little dry, so 3 out 5 for the Po-boy itself. However, he said that the sweet potato fries were the showstopper of his meal, so 5 out of 5 stars. I tasted one of them myself and they were absolutely delicious, fried to perfection, not too crispy and not too soft, and the sweet flavors were boasting with every bite. My daughter had the boiled crab dinner and she said that it was good, not the best she's ever had in her life, but good enough to enjoy, so 4 out of 5. I had a fried seafood platter with a side of fried rice and hush puppies. This entree was almost amazing, but it missed the margin by a slight few points. The shrimp were fried too dark for my liking and almost tasted like frozen shrimp from the frozen section of the grocery store, so 2.5 out of 5 stars. It could possibly be the type of batter that they're using on the shrimp that's not quite right. However, the fried fish, oysters, hush puppies, and fried rice were absolutely delicious and fried to perfection! The fish and oysters were lightly fried and flavorful but not salty, so 5 out of 5. The hush puppies were amazing, so 5 out of 5. Lastly, the fried rice was wonderful and full of distinctive flavors, so 5 out of 5. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and will most likely visit again in the near future. Customer service was great and service was fast, 5 out of 5 stars for the host/server, Frankie. He checked in on us several times during our stay making sure we were comfortable and satisfied. I recommend anyone who enjoys this type of cuisine to give them a try. It's not absolutely authentic creole food and doesn't possess the original creole/cajun flavors of true down-on-the-bayou Louisiana cuisine, but it's good enough to enjoy. Crawfish cafe is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Houston for seafood! The service is also great, waiters and waitresses are always friendly and food is always amazing! For the first time on this visit I tried the New Orlean's BBQ Shrimp which isn't really my favorite, I don't think I would get it again. The shrimp is good but I did not like the flavor of the sauce. The sauce kind of reminded me of an after taste of having tamarind flavored seafood with a mix of Smokey to it. I do usually get shrimp but my go to flavor is the mix, which is a combination of Cajun, lemon pepper, and garlic better. The oysters are a must when I go here and if they weren't so expensive I would get at least 3 dozen lol. I tried half dozen of the Vietnamese style oysters which are the scallion oil grilled oysters as well as a half dozen of the chargrilled oysters... 10/10! My favorite are the chargrilled oysters. Another one of my go items is the crawfish. I get the mix flavor with the mild spice level. I love the amount of garlic that is in the mix, it's a chefs kiss. I do prefer only eating the crawfish when they have it live and not frozen so anytime it's season I am there! Lastly I tried for the first time the beignets with a scoop of ice cream. Sadly I was not a fan and the reason being is that I like when beignets are very light on the inside, basically just an air pocket and not too doughy, but these were too think for my liking. I ended up eating one out of the four, my girlfriend ate one, and then we ate the ice cream together.. we didn't finish the last two. The food was absolutely delicious. I got 1 pound of coco loco crawfish and 1 pound of their thai basil. Both were so flavorful and the size of the crawfish were big. I also tried 1 piece of catfish and that too was delicious. The service was a tad slow. My crawfish got delivered before my water. The restaurant itself is very clean. Why we leaned toward 3 stars for a moment: -Only one oyster in the sampler was worth a reorder -Sausage portions felt small for the price -Open kitchen is great, but we saw a bit too much -- staff flirting (playfully stabbing, poking, laughing loudest in the room, etc), which became a little bit distracting. I absolutely understand working with coworkers that you enjoy working with as it makes the day go by faster and work more enjoyable. In fact, I can see and appreciate how the staff got along with each other, however due to it, we also had trouble flagging someone for new gloves when ours ripped/wanting to order more. -No larger glove sizes offered -One of the servers that was flirting seemed reluctant when called away by the host since she rolled her eyes-- not sure if it was not wanting to stop her conversation with the person she was playfully talking to, not wanting to wait, but something that could be misread at the time by someone around was that the table she was headed to was POC. Wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but still wanted to mention it as the eye roll happened right after being called by the host and heading that direction. It's not fancy, and who cares as long as the food is wonderful, which it is. The food: the 12-count fried shrimp platter was $12.99 and an excellent value. The fried shrimp was great, and we both loved their version of cocktail sauce. The potato salad was delicious and it didn't smell or taste like a mayonnaise mess. A nice surprise was the garlic noodles and we will definitely order those again on the next visit.
