Delicious, delicious, delicious. It's hard for me to like a pizza more than Piece, but I think Craft Pizza has just won me over and taken the title of my favorite thin crust pizza ever. We popped in this afternoon for a Sunday lunch with our 2 year old and 8 month old. The restaurant is small but was luckily fairly empty so we had plenty of space. During the day and peak evening time, they offer a by the slice option. So it was an easy decision for my husband and I to split a 14 inch specialty pizza and get a $3 slice for our son. The ambiance is chill and relaxed. Not a party with pizza kind of place and no bar. This is not where you come to watch a ball game with a buddy. This is where you come to enjoy phenomenal pizza with delicious sodas and feed your kid (they have high chairs). And it's BYOB so you can enjoy heavenly pizza with a suitable beer or bottle of wine. Pizzas are served in either a 14 inch or 18 inch option. They have a number of delicious artisan specialty pizzas to choose from and a make your own option as well. We opted for the "Devil in the White City" (or something like that) which was a mind blowing concoction of spicy peppers, garlic, cappiola, red onions, and a few other goodies. You get a choice to have it with red sauce or as a white pizza. Get the sauce. Their sauce is fantastic. This is by far the lightest and most fresh tasting pizza in Chicago. The toppings tasted almost as if they were picked straight from the garden and there's plenty of cheese without being heavy or greasy. The style is not quite as crispy as Piece (Craft is more NY style but way better) but it's so light and fresh, I didn't mind a little bit of flop to my crust. I can't say enough about Craft. Good Pizza. Cheese blend at this place is crazy good. Plain Jane is the gold medal at this place in my opinion. Not your typical Chicago pizza as it is far from the tavern style you would expect at some places and definitely doesn't approach any pan or deep dish genre. Great thin crust pie. Six of us came for our Friday Night Dinner Club. It's been sitting on our BYOB restaurant list for a while and in an area we don't get to too often. With the weather being nicer, we thought it could be nice to take advantage of the outdoor seating, but it happened to be chilly that night and we sat indoors. Though it was a weekend night, it wasn't too busy. I'd tried making a reservation, but they don't do that. However, we had no problem snagging a long table inside immediately around 7:30pm. The menu is pretty limited (purposefully so), but you can always make a build-your-own. We decided to leave it up to them and go with the pre-built selections. We got a 14" Bacon Bianca, a 14" Craft Margherita, and a 14" White Truffle. This ended up being about the perfect amount for all of us. Still, I personally wouldn't have minded going for the larger pizzas or ordering an additional one, but I'm a glutton. It depends on how full you want to feel. I thought the Bacon Bianca would be my favorite, but it wasn't. It was good, but the flavors didn't stand out as much as they did on the simple Craft Margherita or the decadent White Truffle. The White Truffle has mushrooms. I don't like mushrooms, but I was able to easily pick them out and give them to fungi lovers. It ended up being my favorite of the three, and everyone was in agreement. I would most definitely order that again and I'd like to try The Hipster next time. The atmosphere is super casual. Come as you are and enjoy yourself. We loved that all the employees would break into song. Their music selection was great, so come if you've got good taste in pizza and playlists. read more

This may seem like an ambitious five star review, but I honestly can think of no reason to not give this off the beaten path pizza place all it deserves! Came here with some friends on a Saturday evening around 7, were able to sit immediately outside on their patio area, and were promptly served. The restaurant itself is nice, nothing super fancy but they do have fairly ample outdoor seating which is really nice. Their pizza menu is extensive making it difficult to choose which ones you want to dive in and try! I'd recommend as many as possible, you won't be disappointed. We got the white truffle pizza which was absolutely amazing. The amore margherita with sausage and the la dolce vita with pepperoni and were blown away by them all. The cheesy garlic bread wasn't so bad either. Thin crust gets a lot of flack in Chicago with the deep dish scene, but if you're looking for some delicious thin crust pizza at a really reasonable price, make you're way to craft asap! read more

I'm from California and lived back east for a bit. I now have lived in Chicago for almost the last two years. I'm not a huge fan of deep dish pizza or pizza cut into squares and have been very disappointed many times with 4 and 5 stars pizza parlors. I took a look at Craft Pizza's photos /descriptions of their pizzas and I hoped I would not be disappointed. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. I even called and spoke to the manager - who was fabulous - and assured me that their pizza would never be cut into squares. Which is so lame by the way! We initially asked about getting slices, but they only offer them during certain hours which ended up being for the best because the pizza was so good, a slice wouldn't have been enough. Awesome pizza and super friendly staff! I love that John (staff) always recognizes who we are and greets us cheerfully when we come in for some slices. Slices available are usually cheese, sausage, and pepperoni, but only between 5 pm to 6:30 pm. They are indeed mouth watering! I think the secret is in the tomato sauce. I enjoy eating pepperoni, but if it's not a available cheese me up! Classic is the way to go to truly taste the ingredients. There have been many joints that have come and gone from this spot that seem to never work out since I've lived in the neighborhood. I don't get all the good reviews, this was the most subpar pizza I've ever had in Chicago. My roommate and I decided to have pizza delivered and support a smaller business in our neighborhood that we have never tried. It came pretty quickly but it there was absolutely nothing else noteworthy about it. If you enjoy salty, undercooked pizza that is so soggy it falls limp when you pick it up then this is for you. The crust couldn't support the toppings at all. The cheese bread was another disaster. How do you screw up something so easy? It was burnt around the edges, chewy, and the cheese had a cheap texture. The salad was ok, again nothing special. With a name like Craft Pizza and a location as nice as they have I expected better but I glean this is the kind of pizza better eaten fresh out of the oven and not delivered. read more

My friend who is also a New Jersey native told me this was some of the best pizza he's had in Chicago. After a year, I finally made it over. I showed up on a Friday afternoon right after they opened, around 5 pm, intending to get a couple of slices. I was hoping they'd have some of their specialty slices available, but they just had the standard cheese, pepperoni, and sausage. I went with a cheese and a sausage. With a fountain soda, it was 8 bucks. The soda cup was the tiniest I've ever seen, it was probably just a little bigger than a rocks glass. It was a little surprising to see Jones soda. As for the pizza, here's what I'll say. This place uses good quality ingredients. The crust was nice and crispy all the way through, as it should be. The sauce had a bright tomato flavor and the quality of the mozzarella was fair. I thought the sausage had an ok flavor, but it could have used more seasoning. The ingredients were also well proportioned. Also, the condiments disappointed me. The parmesan in the shaker was turning yellow, like it had been sitting out for a week. And also, there was no oregano or granulated garlic available. This is one of those classic 3.5 star reviews, but since I do believe I would give them one more chance, I'm giving the extra star. If I do go back, I probably would try one of their specialty pies such as the white and take it to go. read more

Pizza from here is comparable to Piece. It's not famous just yet since it recently opened but it already looks like it's getting there. important to note that everything is self-service (get your own water, utensils etc), however I think that's awesome because I don't have to tip. One other thing to note is that there isn't many tables inside and the biggest party you can have is 10 people (biggest table). There are two tables outside which seat 6. We got 2 large pizzas with two toppings each + 2 garlic breads and paid $53 for it (about the same price as Piece). Meter parking outside or park on some random side street for free. If you're going to charge $18 for a small pie of pizza, you're expected to deliver either a gourmet kind, or at least good service. There were four college kids left to take orders, bake the pizza, and apparently, stand and gossip amongst each other. The environment was really hostile because of these guys making fun of random passersby. When the garlic bread was ready, they were so busy chatting that they didn't event tell us. This place is legit! I almost didn't want to write a review and just keep it to myself, but I can't do that...! First of all, they are located in a perfect location, on Damen, but not on the crazy part of it, but still close! They have an adorable little outdoor seating area and enough seating inside also. They also have a food truck. Their pizza. Amazing! They sell by the pie and by the slice, which is perfect for a small group, or a larger group. They have a great variety of toppings and you can always create your own. They also have daily specials. Every pie I have tried there, has been delicious! Ordered the Devil in the White City pizza for carry out last night. Woke up this morning wanting the leftovers for breakfast. We did not get the extra sauce nor did we find it to be too spicy. Loved the soft dough. Slices are HUGE. I ordered the larger size for me and my husband preferring to err on the side of caution (and hunger!) as we'd never gone to Craft before, so now we have enough leftover for 2 more meals.
