Decided to pop in for a quick to-go dinner after a work out class and was not disappointed! Was able to order quickly at the counter and wait comfortably at a table for my food. The restaurant itself is cute, not super big but there's a lot of seating. The servers are always friendly and there's always a ton of people working LOL. It was pretty busy for a Friday evening, and I only had to wait for 10 minutes or so for my order to be ready. I got the pork souvlaki skewers as a bowl. I've been to Chicago twice in the last month, and sure enough, both times I have found myself grabbing lunch at Kala. I am telling everyone and their mother about it - fast casual, kind staff, bright space, best bowls. My first experience was after miles of walking and I needed something filling but note necessarily heavy. I posted up at a bar seat that overlook the sidewalk and with windows open, enjoyed their Pork Bowl with 1/2 rice 1/2 salad. This heaping masterpiece comes with two flavorful pork skewers atop a bed of yellow rice, fresh dressed greens and a bright, chilled and flavorful garlic-cucumber yogurt dressing. The additions of feta cheese, red onions, tomatoes and well seared fries that hold their crisp amongst this bowl's robust ingredients really had me hooked. My second trip, I brought a friend. I was concerned I over-hyped it (as I do) but she agreed with me - this place has a good bowl. This time I was feeling more veggie forward and ordered their Kolokythokeftedes - zucchini fritters - bowl again with 1/2 and 1/2. Three thick fritters come hot and fried yet moist inside and packed with flavor. The base is the same and toppings of red onion and feta are similar, but the sauce shines - a white garlic sauce blends the bowl together - I really could not stop taking bites. I had gotten takeout from Kala twice and while it was tasty, it felt expensive and didn't leave as much of an impression on me. But last night I went to dine in and can confidently say this place deserves 5 stars! So much better as a casual sit-down spot where you can enjoy open air seating on nice weather days, easy ordering through your phone brought straight to your table, and fresher food. We had the Greek fries, zucchini fritters, shrimp "sandwich" and chicken kebab salad. All 10/10. We also got their frozen Greek yogurt ice cream with honey and candied walnuts on top, which stole the show: so tangy and tart and sweet and delicious! And it came with two large scoops for only $6?! I've only had the gyros here. Don't go for a gyros. It's tasty, but it's a modern version and the meat doesn't taste anything like gyro meat. And there wasn't enough of it on there. So if that's your craving, I'd avoid Kala. I saw other food that people were eating and didn't t looked ok. I'd probably go back to get a salad or souvlaki. read more

This place was such an unexpected surprise in terms of quality and deliciousness. I stopped in after an evening yoga class for a quick bite to eat. I stopped in a little after 7 on a Wednesday and it was pretty full but was still able to snag a seat. You can order at the counter or with the QR code at the table. The price point for the quality of food you get is reasonable enough. I got the Greek fries and a gyro sandwich. Both were so delicious. Yummy food, semi-strange setup? My friend and I stumbled upon this spot and were drawn in by the yummy smells! We shared some Greek fries (not pictured, we devoured them!), then I had the chicken salad with an added lamb skewer and my friend got a skewer plate - the flavors were immaculate, balanced, and fresh!! The chicken was cooked perfectly, with a beautiful char, though the lamb was a touch overcooked, but not enough to be bothersome. You know those times on family vacays when things are just tense and hitting the fan (there's always at least ONE half day, c'mon let's be real)? This was my moment. I got a salad with chicken skewers and a delicious dressing and it tasted like one of those perfect, high-end salads. Super fresh, loaded with good ingredients, but not grossly swimming in dressing. When traveling, it can be hard to find healthy spots like this but it was just so good. My mood was leveling out, and I went up to try one of their whipped coffees which was an instant coffee all frothed up -- try it! Very good and a good dose of caffeine. They have a lot of staff, very friendly and organized. I ordered their Greek Fries and their Chicken Souvlaki rice bowl. The garlic fries were topped with feta cheese, olive oil and garlic sauce. These were ok, but nothing special. The Chicken in the souvlaki bowl was very delicious. It had a nice char and perfectly cooked. It came with rice, navel orange, and a feta. We've finally found our go to Greek place in Lincoln park. There's plenty of street parking outside. The footprint is a decent size and they also have some outside tables. The decor is really nicely done and the open window concept makes it lively and you get a little hustle and bustle of Lincoln park. The staff are really sweet and helpful everytime we've come There are plenty of vegetarian options. The Greek salad is fresh and perfect for these summer days. The Greek fries with the fire sauce on the side are delicious. The spanakopita was perfectly flaky and the feta spinach filling was warm and melty. When I'm trying to be fake-healthy I often opt for Greek cuisine. Lean protein and veggies make me feel better about all the burgers and fried food I otherwise consume. KALA is fine. Controversial POV Alert: Similar to Thai cuisine, I find Greek dishes to be either good or bad without much room for gradient. They're all very similar to my palate. After a long Saturday afternoon at the zoo, my friends and I found KALA on Yelp and decided to give it a try!! It was a short walk from the Lincoln Park Zoo. The seating is first come first served basis, and you order with a QR code on the table. The window (picture attached) is huge without curtains, so the sun was definitely shining onto some of the tables. The only available table when I arrived was one directly under the sun, but luckily we moved to a shady one after another group of people left. We received our dishes quickly after we ordered. I ordered the Greek fries and the shrimp bowl, while my friends ordered the chicken bowl and shrimp sandwich. The portions were massive and not to mention, huge for the price!! The Greek fries had an amazing garlic sauce drizzled on top, and paired with the feta, it was an absolutely delicious dish. Even when I had leftovers the day after, the fries were still incredibly tasty and flavorful. The shrimp bowl was loaded with rice. The shrimp was a little hard to get off the kebab stick, but it was cooked perfectly! Paired with the rice, yogurt sauce, and harissa, each bite of shrimp was delectable. My friends all gave positive reviews of their respective dishes, and the sandwich and bowls were still really filling and great as leftovers. The restaurant also had a lot of to go orders, but the food was amazing despite the busy atmosphere of all tables filled. I would definitely come again with an empty stomach and at an early time to snatch a table in the shade. Would love to try the lemon roasted potatoes and loukoumades in the future!!
