Wowowow Kala lived up to all the hype I've heard about it! I ordered from door dash & it was still good when it got to my apartment. The grilled veggies and shrimp were soooo good but the frozen greek yogurt stole the show. IT WAS SO GOOD. This was not fake frozen yogurt like froyo. This was legit frozen yogurt. Perfectly tart and creamy and not super sweet at all. The cherries and pistachios on top were amazing and added a saltiness that went great with the yogurt. We usually come to this neighborhood for donuts down the street but then realized that we should eat something healthy for lunch, instead of just three or four donuts. So looking at both Yelp and Google - Kala, had rock solid reviews and pics for modern Greek food!! So we were able to grab a few seats facing the sidewalk as the place was pretty full, we got two different salads with steak and chicken skewers. The steak (Souvlaki) salad comes with grilled veggies and the chicken comes with navel oranges. I would stick with the steak and order more protein so it sticks to your ribs. I would suggest adding some more lettuce to make these salads even greater....will be back here for a third visit soon :) Most recently, we picked up the souvlaki steak salad with an extra chicken skewer and that really hit the spot!! read more

Best Greek spot in town! The food is so flavorful and delicious. We started off with the zucchini and it was paired with feta and I believe a yogurt sauce. You order on your phone online and they bring the food to your table and the water glasses are self service. Our food came out fairly quick. I ordered the shrimp bowl with half salad and half rice and it was delicious. Everything tasted very fresh and the sauces paired perfectly with the shrimp. We grabbed a quick dinner before heading to the Cubs game and we left very satisfied. Will be coming back here the next time I'm in town! read more

Kala is fine if someone wants you to go but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. It's just super flavorful. Rice was mushy. Soup lacked lemon. Protein portions were small. Veggies are great and the spicy dip is good. Staff is nice but don't interact with you much and seating system is odd. Nice bright room with sidewalk seating as well. read more

Weird experience getting seated outside - we were made to move by one staff member even though another staff member had put us there. We used the QR code and ordered. Decided to pop in for a quick to-go dinner after a work out class and was not disappointed! Was able to order quickly at the counter and wait comfortably at a table for my food. The restaurant itself is cute, not super big but there's a lot of seating. The servers are always friendly and there's always a ton of people working LOL. It was pretty busy for a Friday evening, and I only had to wait for 10 minutes or so for my order to be ready. I got the pork souvlaki skewers as a bowl. I really liked it, I thought the pork was perfectly charred and the toppings were all fresh and went really well with it. I've been to Chicago twice in the last month, and sure enough, both times I have found myself grabbing lunch at Kala. I am telling everyone and their mother about it - fast casual, kind staff, bright space, best bowls. My first experience was after miles of walking and I needed something filling but note necessarily heavy. I posted up at a bar seat that overlook the sidewalk and with windows open, enjoyed their Pork Bowl with 1/2 rice 1/2 salad. This heaping masterpiece comes with two flavorful pork skewers atop a bed of yellow rice, fresh dressed greens and a bright, chilled and flavorful garlic-cucumber yogurt dressing. The additions of feta cheese, red onions, tomatoes and well seared fries that hold their crisp amongst this bowl's robust ingredients really had me hooked. My second trip, I brought a friend. I was concerned I over-hyped it (as I do) but she agreed with me - this place has a good bowl. This time I was feeling more veggie forward and ordered their Kolokythokeftedes - zucchini fritters - bowl again with 1/2 and 1/2. Three thick fritters come hot and fried yet moist inside and packed with flavor. The base is the same and toppings of red onion and feta are similar, but the sauce shines - a white garlic sauce blends the bowl together - I really could not stop taking bites. It sounds like the husband and wife duo just have the one location so far, but I begged one of the staff to ask them to consider MN - I would be their first customer. read more

I stopped in a little after 7 on a Wednesday and it was pretty full but was still able to snag a seat. You can order at the counter or with the QR code at the table. Food was phenomenal, loads of flavor, great portion sizes for the price, and gorgeous interior and vibe with lots of sunlight. We got the Zucchini Fritters and Greek Fries. Don't skip the Zucchini Fritters, they were beyond amazing. I got the Mushroom Bowl and even though there was no meat, it was surprisingly filling (especially after the workout) and super flavorful. I had gotten takeout from Kala twice and while it was tasty, it felt expensive and didn't leave as much of an impression on me. But last night I went to dine in and can confidently say this place deserves 5 stars! So much better as a casual sit-down spot where you can enjoy open air seating on nice weather days, easy ordering through your phone brought straight to your table, and fresher food. We had the Greek fries, zucchini fritters, shrimp "sandwich" and chicken kebab salad. All 10/10. We also got their frozen Greek yogurt ice cream with honey and candied walnuts on top, which stole the show: so tangy and tart and sweet and delicious! And it came with two large scoops for only $6?! Cheaper than most ice cream places these days for sure. Can't wait to return to Kala this summer! read more

I was craving something fresh and light so I decided to try dinner from Kala. Pickup was timely plus everything was affordable and a reasonable portion, however I felt like the food was just ok. The produce in the chicken salad was super fresh but the chicken was dry. I'd recommend getting the dressing on the side too. The phyllo dough was super flakey and I liked the sweet and savory combo but I was hoping the feta would be a little saltier or creamier. I've only had the gyros here. Don't go for a gyros. It's tasty, but it's a modern version and the meat doesn't taste anything like gyro meat. And there wasn't enough of it on there. So if that's your craving, I'd avoid Kala. I saw other food that people were eating and didn't t looked ok. I'd probably go back to get a salad or souvlaki. read more

We ordered the Greek Salad, Halloumi Cheese with Cherry Port Jam & Pistachios (MUST ORDER), Steak Bowl, Lamb Plate, and Loukoumades (fried donut balls) with their homemade frozen yogurt. Oh my word, everything was phenomenal, especially the Halloumi Cheese and Loukoumades! This is elevated Greek food at its finest. Yummy food, semi-strange setup? My friend and I stumbled upon this spot and were drawn in by the yummy smells! We shared some Greek fries (not pictured, we devoured them!), then I had the chicken salad with an added lamb skewer and my friend got a skewer plate - the flavors were immaculate, balanced, and fresh!! The chicken was cooked perfectly, with a beautiful char, though the lamb was a touch overcooked, but not enough to be bothersome. This said, while the few interactions that we had with staff were pleasant, ordering using our smartphones and self-serving water and flatware was a bit of a turnoff.
