I get it...it was Mother"s Day and it was busy... but Nothing I hate more is paying for food I don't receive. Luckily I caught the missing order of French Toast, but didn't catch the missing gravy for our biscuits and gravy. We live in Illinois & finding a Cracker Barrel is hard let alone a good one. We stopped at the only one in Gallatin on New Years Day the only breakfast place open. It was crowded with a 30min wait which was expected. It was only about 15min and we got to shop some. The service was great & our server was very friendly! The menu was slightly different than in Illinois but that was a good thing. We had breakfast & lunch between us all. The food was really good, no one complained & would return. Wow, where to start? On Sunday morning (yesterday), a very busy day usually for Cracker Barrel, the restaurant RAN OUT OF ORANGE JUICE!! How does that even happen? I know how, actually: I have never in my lifetime, in any restaurant, seen more low-energy workers. Slow to seat patrons, slow to take orders, slow to bring out food, slow to return and ask how things are (if they come back at all). And frankly, the food here is absolute garbage. The employees were nice enough although our server wasn't happy I sent my food back because it wasn't even room temp it was cool to the touch. I simply ordered their Thursday special Turkey with dressing, sweet potato casserole. They served it to me on a dinner salad plate so the food was falling off onto the table? Did they not have clean lunch plates? Food was cold, their sweet potato casserole as I order this every time I've been, if available, has never once had any topping or any part of the casserole so just call it sweet potato purée because that's what it is. It also had oranges mixed in or a taste of strong orange flavor and my daughter tried just to make sure I was fair and she said it tasted like oranges and not sweet potato, what is that? I pay 15 for lunch with a drink since they are now almost 4.00. of course I tip no matter how bad service is and I'm a big tipper as I know these corporations will not pay their employees a fair living wage. we should all boycott this, really. They are making millions if not billions so it's the greed in America again at the very top.I gave my server just 20% as she was not happy by her actions that I asked to warm it. The time was 12:30 pm, exactly lunch time and there were maybe 10 people in the part of the front dining room we were seated in. That should have told us right there something was off. I do know one thing, it was my last lunch at this Cracker Barrel. How would they like to be served slop that was not editable? I came here a couple times but this is my first review for the Gallatin location. I came in on a Sunday morning, around 10:30 and got seated immediately. No wait, food came quick, was deliciously consistent, and waitress was attentive. What more can you ask for? Although this location is 3 miles further than the one in Hendersonville, I refuse to go back to the Hendersonville location. They burned me 3 times and have not improved over the past couple months. We typically go to another location of CB so looking at the reviews for the Gallatin location, I was extremely nervous, but my mother loves CB and I couldn't deny her this treat for her birthday. We were seated at 10:30 and didn't realize that they didn't serve lunch until 11 a.m. Our server was less than pleased when we asked if we could just have coffee until they served lunch. She did turn her frown upside down though when she came back at about 10:50 and said that we could order lunch. My mother had a salad and I had my veggie plate. We ordered biscuits with our meal. The food arrived promptly, by someone else, a food-runner I suppose. I needed ketchup but I didn't see my server for quite some time so I found an empty table and got it myself from another table. Our food arrived, without biscuits so I had to ask the server for them. She brought them out promptly. Our meal was good; however, we didn't see our server for quite a while. I ran out of water and mother ran out of coffee. The server did come back to give us our check so we were able to ask for water and coffee. Overall, the meal was good and service okay. If our server had been more attentive, I would have rated them a 4 star. read more

Normally Cracker Barrel can be expected to deliver a quick meal that while not gourmet quality but pretty good. I normally like the breakfast menu which can be counted on to be prompt and southern at its core. I'm sorry to say that my most recent visit to the Gallatin location was substantially below standard. Our dinner (breakfast) meal ( pancakes for my wife and The Uncle Hershal's breakfast for me) took almost 20 minutes to arrive and several requests to our waitress finally got my correct number of eggs (two not one), syrup for the pancakes, and butter and jelly for the biscuits. The waitress who brought the food was friendly but the long wait had me a bit grumpy. I don't think it was her fault but unfortunately she was the face of the service not the kitchen staff who were more than likely the problem. I will admit that these folks are probably suffering due to the high standards that Cracker Barrel has established with me. I visited this location with a group from church since our pastor loves it. He boasts he has the entire menu memorized, which I find a regrettable use of memory. I had not been to Cracker Barrel in at least 8 years. I am not a fan. In large part, this is not the fault of the restaurant, but the reality of my wife's cooking. She is a vastly superior cook of typical southern food, so it's hard to get excited by the food here. For example, on this particular visit I found the grits to be watery, tasteless and indedible. The gravy also lacked in any flavor. The biscuits were good, the poached eggs were cooked perfectly, and the hashbrowns were good. All in all, a mediocre performance by my standards. However, the store in the front of each restaurant always has something funny to make you laugh while you're waiting in line, and the waitresses are oustanding. Many of these women have worked at CrackerBarl for many years. They know the menu and they have, or affect, southern charm. In my opinion this redeems the restaurant from a two star rating. That having been said, I realize the majority of people do not have a spouse that can cook for them as if they were a King. Many more have no concept of what southern food, or southern hospitality is, so in this respect I recommend it to Yankees and foreigners as well as unfortunate husbands and thus elevate it from a three to a four star rating. read more

I love a good breakfast. Note to the cooks- let the pancake batter sit in the mixture for a few minutes and your pancakes will be perfect.
