The restaurant has a very basic, cafeteria-style setup offering a "meat and two sides" menu, with…read morenothing particularly memorable about the atmosphere. Unfortunately, while the food was visually appealing, the quality did not match the presentation. The women serving upfront were ok. I ordered the fried pork chop with turnip greens, mac and cheese, dressing, and a cornbread muffin. The pork chop was heavily battered and overwhelmingly salty, with little flavor beyond salt. The mac and cheese tasted artificial, as though processed cheese was used. The turnip greens were tender but lacked seasoning and tasted as if they had simply been boiled in water. The cornbread muffin was dry, hard, and bland. The dressing was also very disappointing and lacked flavor. Overall, the meal was extremely underwhelming and not representative of good home-style cooking. I was disappointed with both the quality and taste of the food, especially considering the restaurant's branding. After only a few bites, I discarded the meal entirely. Based on this experience, I would not return or recommend this restaurant. In my heart of hearts, this place gets zero stars...however, I believe that I have to give at least one star.

The service is good & the staff is very friendly. Clean restaurant with many tables for your dining experience too. I had Chicken Fried Steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, & green beans. Very good & satisfied the taste buds tremendously!

California needs an Ed's Fish House! I was in town for a conference and wandering the city. We saw…read morea fish spot and had to stop! Ms. Tawana welcomed us to Nashville and we decided on a fish sandwich, fried okra and lemonade. I admitted to Ms. Tawana that I had never had mustard, onions, hot sauce and pickle on my fish sandwich, but I wanted to order like the locals do and suffice to say..I am a new fan! The fish was fried and seasoned to perfection; not too hard, not too soft. Going forward I will be dressing my fish sandwiches accordingly! Okra was on point and the pineapple lemonade was delicious. And just like that, snap of a finger, Ed's make the "Nashville Favorites" list. AP took our order and helped us decide what to order to drink (lots of good choices). I'll be back next conference season!

Ed's Fish is a Nashville institution in historic North Nashville. He and his frat came here all the time and even knew the original owners, who were welcoming and provided good customer service. Now that it's been under new management for several years, I wanted to check it out for myself and see if it still had the same energy and vibe he described. I usually order the whiting sandwich with everything, and it never disappoints. The fish is always hot, well-breaded, and nicely seasoned. You can order it crispy or regular--just let them know at the beginning when placing your order. The portion sizes are generous. I typically get mine with onions, cheese, hot sauce, mustard, and pickles. If you want extras, there's a small up charge, and if you'd like other fixings, just ask--they're accommodating. I'm not a picky eater and like everything on my sandwich--I love all the flavors bursting at the seams and complementing one another. You pay at the window once you're in line. It's primarily a drive-thru setup, though you can walk in if you prefer. Typically, someone will take your order as you drive up. Lines are usually packed, especially on weekends, but in my opinion, they have great hours. Just be prepared to wait in your car for a bit--though they move things along efficiently and keep the drive-thru line moving. It's a true no-frills neighborhood spot in a community with deep roots, and I'm sure it brings back memories for many who attended college in the area or grew up nearby. It's also well-known enough that out-of-towners make a point to stop by for a sandwich or dinner. Pro tip: Check their hours and take a quick look at the menu ahead of time so you're ready to order when you pull up! So enjoy, my fellow fried fish lovers go ahead and place your order, I think you'll like it over there! And check out my two photos so you can see what I'm talking about.
