i chose Cowfish for my birthday dinner, and in retrospect, regret my choice. i made a reservation for 2 through yelp a few weeks prior, for 7:30pm. we arrived a little bit before our reservation time and got in line behind a couple who were arguing with the hostess about the wait. I wrongly assumed that those people were walk-ins. we went ahead and checked in with the hostess, I requested a deck table if possible but she said politely that would probably not happen tonight, okay no problem, i said anything would be fine. we ended up being seated indoors past dark around 8:45pm, well over an hour past our reservation time. The people around us on the lawn were dealing with the exact same problems. I overheard one group say that they had been waiting for over two hours. at one point a manager came out and was trying to placate a hangry bachelorette party. It's nice that they have an outdoor bar (with great drinks) to keep us distracted for a while but we both found the situation to be pretty lame. I checked in at the 45 mark and while the hostess was apologetic I got the feeling that this is a regular occurrence. The food was hit or miss. the great: buffalo shrimp, spinach artichoke dip, and ribs. all fantastic, and the reason for the extra star. the bad: the sushi, we ordered the tumbleweed roll and it was so bland and mainly made up of rice. i honestly had to double check that they're was any spicy lobster in there. the hudson river trout. just tasted like boring salmon, we could not taste the pecan and there wasn't very much sauce to help it out. and the banana cream pie, we love banana cream pie and I feel like it's not that difficult of a dessert to make, but this one was really gelatinous and there was no strong banana flavor besides the random pieces of actual banana in it. 5 stars all the way. Let's start with the ambiance, which is why many people come here in the first place. Cowfish is set right upon the bay, with an outdoor area where you can hang at the outdoor bar and take in the surrounding water. Great way to start before being seated. The indoor restaurant is great as well, fashioned like an old school boat house, with an outdoor deck as well. Now, many places that focus on these vibes often fall short on the food. Especially when we're talking about the Hamptons, this happens all too often. But not here. The food was as good, if not better, than the ambiance. You could tell there was a team in the kitchen that was really taking pride in what they put out. We started with the spinach artichoke dip, hummus, cornbread and a couple sushi rolls. Honestly, all were amazing. One of the best spinach artichoke dips I've ever had. The cornbread was crack. The sushi rolls were fresh and delicious as well. From there, lots of touch choices for entrees. I went with the ribs which did not disappoint. They are cooked for 8 hours and they were as good as bbq ribs get in my opinion. Served with great slaw and fries. Top notch, fell off the bone. The rotisserie chicken and filet mignon were both excellent entrees too, had a bite of those as well. All in all, it was a fantastic evening. We ended up going back outside after dinner and played cornhole on the water. My husband and I were looking for a restaurant for lunch in Valentine's Day. We had never been here before and d it was a bit hard to find. The search was worth it, though! The dining room was open and bright with windows facing the Shinnecock Canal. We were seated by a very pleasant young lady. We ordered drinks and looked over the menu. It took quite a while for my Bourbon Manhattan to arrive and our lunch order to be taken. We both ordered Clam Chowder and the wait was worth it! It was, hands down, the best New England chowder we've ever had. Lots of clams and small chunks of potato in a creamy flavorful Soup. I ordered the Gibbs hamburger and that, too, was delicious although a bit more done than medium. My husband ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad which he also said was delicious. We shared a vanilla ice cream sundae with hot fudge and we thoroughly enjoyed it! All in all, it was a wonderful luncheon! And I recommend Cowfish highly. The food was excellent. We had a very early Sunday dinner. Mike, our waiter, was knowledgeable and helpful in guiding us to the best Cowfish had to offer. My newly turned pescatarian from vegetarian fully enjoyed the sushi and the salmon over kale. I had the scallops over risotto and it was wonderful. My date had the NOLA shrimp and he loved it. The drinks were mighty fine too (Montauk brewed suds and some signature cocktails.) And make sure to leave room for the chocolate chip cookie served in a cast iron pan, "rare", with ice cream and caramel sauce. Good for 2nd visit, an early Saturday night, and our server was Carmen. Still 5 stars! We had the Maui Wowie roll and the Surf and Turf. Oh. YES!! Then we had the trout special, the Danish baby back ribs and some more risotto and scallops. Nothing disappointed us. For dessert we resorted to a tried and true favorite, the hot chocolate cookie in a pan and the hot fudge sundae (we're talkin real whipped cream!). Pure Heaven. Thank you Carmen and Robert! So to start my dining experience, me and my wife are looking for a good seafood dish for Father's Day and of course, cowfish came to mind as it's nice location offers a view and some good seafood items once we arrive for our reservation at 4pm we are seated immediately and we took to the menu to order some appetizers Which being on the water wanted to order some items from the raw bar. Hostess comes over and says that the entire raw bar is out! mind you this was Father's Day Sunday at dinner time and none of the items from the Raw bar were available. There's a seafood market right next-door. How do they not have oysters? available for their dining experience, nonetheless not a dealbreaker, We decided to order soup and salads instead. My wife got the clam chowder soup, and after about four spoonfuls of it, she spits her food into the bowl and finds a chunk of steel wool from a brush that's used to clean pots and pans that she spit out of her mouth //gross. she was disgusted by it , waitress came over took the soup away, offered a replacement, but of course we declined as who knows what else that pot of soup might still have floating in it. The manager came over and apologized and said we will take care of you guys. The rest of the meal came out at different times for my wife and my two children, but the rest of the food was good enough for us even though that kinda spoiled it for my wife. Lobster rolls were ok for us. when it came time to leave we got the Bill and surprisingly enough after all these hiccups, they didn't comp anything on the bill not even a drink just didn't add the soup to the bill that had Brillo metal floating in it. Guess that's managements way of "we'll take care of you guys". accidents happen and I'm understanding to these things slipping up, but there's a way of management going about these things to improve the dining experience of its patrons as a manager, I would be appalled. What kind of customer service experience are they trying to show with quality control going out the window my bill was almost $350 for the four of us and it was very disappointing , we dine multiple venues all over and this has been by far the worst experience I had two cocktails, which were double shot of tequila on the rocks and they charged for that $68 alone! $17 per shot! is a bit much but with a great dining experience service and good food I'd pay it. So I was actually recommended to this restaurant from a co worker. I was able to make a reservation without an issue. Unfortunately it was Memorial Day weekend, so I wasn't able to get an outside table. As I arrived the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They had a table opening with an ocean view and asked me if I rather that. Of course I took it lol. The food was absolutely amazing. I had a Salmon BLT which was a special. My fiancé had a salad. I have been going to Cowfish on and off for the past 7 years and always enjoyed my experience... until tonigh. The food good...and ambiance great , but the service was subpar. Our waitress could not have been less engaged or friendly. The only time she perked up was at the very end of our meal when she knew her tip was coming. My sister and I are usually very generous tippers. The service has got to be horrible for us to tip anything less than 20-22%. That changed tonight. I think our server forgot what industry she was in. It's called hospitality for a reason. She gave off a I'm better than you vibe. She barely smiled, didn't say anything back multiple times after I said thank you. We were not difficult customers, so I really don't understand what her problem was, but I would say she isn't cut out for the hospitality restaurant business. I would still return because it's still a cool place but if I got that server again I would have to ask for a different one. read more

My friend and I grabbed a late lunch at Cowfish the other day. It was our first time there and we both really enjoyed it! Great cocktails and menu. There was so much to choose from that I couldn't decide. Our waitress was awesome and gave some recommendations. I had the Reuben and like the menu said, it was the best I've had! Be forewarned - this is a lengthy review about my recent experience at Cowfish. I dined here with my cousin last night: Friday, November 27, 2020 during this crazy COVID Thanksgiving holiday era. My emotions were heightened after my first experience at Cowfish so I wanted to "sleep it on it" first before writing this review. As I approach my 8th year as an Elite Yelper, I wear my badge with pride. I am very cognizant how my reviews can either positively or negatively affect a business. I am a former business owner, I have my own consulting business and my current professional role involves working directly to support the success of business owners + operators. That being said, I am frequenting businesses more now than ever to show my support during this COVID era. I had never been to The Hamptons (yes, bucket list!) so I looked to Yelp to find a place to eat. Cowfish popped up at the top of my search and noticed their 4-star rating. I secured reservations via Yelp. A credit card is required. We drove over 1.5 hours to get to Cowfish. We were so excited to experience Cowfish. With a high rating + reviews on Yelp and beautiful waterfront views located in the exclusive Hamptons, who wouldn't be? Upon arrival, the hostess (Chelsea) had her back turned towards us as she was on the phone taking an order. Totally get it but she should have at least been facing towards the front door - not with her back facing us! We were patient, but after about 5 minutes, you'd think she would at least acknowledge us. Nope. Finally she hung up, looked at us. No smile, no greeting. I was like, "Hi, we have 5:45 pm reservations that I booked via Yelp." She used the iPad to locate our name, but still didn't confirm, so.... Me: Did you find us? Chelsea: *unconvincingly* "Yeah." Me: Uhh Okay, if it's possible, can we be seated outside? Chelsea: No sorry, we aren't doing outdoor seating and it's cold outside. Me: Any chance we can sit by a window or some area where there is ventilation? (*This was my cousins first time out to a restaurant during COVID) We were seated at the table closest to the entrance. I probably wouldn't have made a big deal, but what happened next was totally out of line and unacceptable. A few minutes after we were seated, my cousin said that a Caucasian family walked in and asked to sit outside. The hostess Chelsea pleasantly (with a smile) replied without hesitation, "Sure, no problem, we'll get that set up for you." Are you f*cking serious? My cousin and I are Asian. I am proud to be Korean-American. But at that moment, I felt racially discriminated and unfairly treated. I asked our waitress if they were seating outside. She replied, "Oh, I'm not sure. I can find out." Right then, I noticed the manager (Derick) standing there so I politely (and calmly) directed my concern towards him. He said, "We can move you." Ok so we moved upstairs to the patio area. On our way up the stairs, I took the initiative to thank Derrick and that I wasn't trying to be difficult. However, I felt like his response was neutral and he didn't seem to really know how to be empathetic or how to adequately de-escalate (is that a word LOL?) from a hospitality stand point. I felt like we were burdening his staff rather than offering us the same opportunity to dine outside like the party who arrived after us. We ordered the nachos appetizer, Buffalo shrimp appetizer, crab cake entree special and topped off the evening with chocolate chip iron skillet cookie. The food is so-so. Nothing special. The views and ambiance are what really make this place. The reason for even giving this place 2-stars is (because I would probably give 0 stars): 1) Our waitress Sarah who took over once we were seated upstairs was awesome - she is a 5 year veteran of the restaurant. She took time to make recommendations on local hotspots like Coopers Beach. She suggested that we come back to Cowfish during peak season to experience their large outdoor bar and patio area that overlook the peaceful canal to visit, sit back, and relax and enjoyed live entertainment + music. We tipped Sarah 25% for her outstanding, friendly, attentive and professional service. 2) Manager Derrick ended up taking the iron cookie skillet off the bill. A nice gesture. But honestly, I would have just appreciated more empathy on his part. You can have sh!tty food, but for me, excellent service, empathy + kindness will trump the sh!tty food every time. I truly hope this review will spark some training + development in customer service. Trust me, while it might sound like something that can be done easily, this is an area that any business can greatly benefit from training and development. Great customer service = happy customers = referrals = revenue and profits. If you're still reading this, thank you for taking the time to read about my experience. For what it's worth, I truly hope you never have the kind of experience my cousin and I had. read more

The huge play area and outdoor benches overlooking the water was such a plus for families with little ones. A beautiful and cute restaurant located by the water. Beautiful outdoor dining and the indoor dining is just as cute. My husband and I came for lunch. We didn't make reservations but they were able to seat us without any wait. I ordered their Nashville Hot chicken and my husband had the beef hash. Both were flavorful and delicious! The chicken was moist, and all the right spices I craved was in each bite. The Beef Hash was great as well. The potatoes and beef mixed well. Whatever they're doing in the kitchen; they're doing it right. The servers are all friendly and kind and when you check in on Yelp, you get 5% off. The reason why I gave it 3 stars is towards the end, the table behind us was being cleared. Somehow, they spilled ketchup on my husband's jacket. Luckily, it was something we can just throw in the wash. But god forbid- if ketchup fell on an expensive jacket or even my bag, I'm not sure how they would have handled the situation. My gf and I made a quick stop here on our way to Montauk and I am SO happy about this find. It is so cute inside and you have a beautiful view of the water. Our waitress was so sweet and gave us the best recommendations, we went with everything she said. Everything we got was beyond delicious. The spinach artichoke dip was SO good and cheesy and you can never go wrong with cheesy. The Buffalo shrimp was so fresh and savory. My favorite and the one I didn't expect to like so much was the mahi mahi sandwich because I'm still just getting into eating other fish besides salmon. It was incredible. Great ambiance and delicious food at Cowfish. We were seated on the outdoor deck on the top floor with a great view of the marina. In terms of food, we ordered the shrimp, Brussels sprouts and chowder as starters. Everything came out extremely quickly and tasted great. I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts and clam chowder. For entrees, most of our group ordered the delicious mussels, which came on top of a mouthwatering risotto. I personally ordered the New York strip, which came with a large stuffed baked potato. Finally, we took two of the skillet dessert cookies to go. We really enjoyed dessert as well. In terms of drinks, I would warn anyone about ordering the spicy jalapeño tequila drink, as it is extremely spicy, even for spice lovers. On a side note, I do believe the restaurant needs to improve their signage as finding the parking location is not very straightforward. read more

Got very lucky on a Friday night in Summer with 2 seats at the bar. Restaurant was packed and a table without a reservation would have been well over an hour. We had a beautiful night, great band and crowd. Adia served us drinks, got us menus very promptly, despite the packed restaurant the food was served in a timely manner and everything was delicious. Oysters were fresh, small and perfectly shucked. Nola shrimp entree was delicious, seriously what is in that sauce.
