A room with a view, sensational food and superb service? I'll take it! Called for a rez (recommended) and snagged a table on the same day for early dinner. Our server (sorry forgot his name) was genuinely friendly - a rarity in the Hamptons these days - and made great food recommendations. The restaurant is one flight up with indoor and outdoor seating, even our inside table offered fantastic water views. Shared an order of burrata (a special of the day) to start, thoroughly enjoyed the creamy globe of cheese resting on tricolor sauce with toast points. My bouillabaisse, comprised of a large lobster tail, clams, mussels, and white fish, was well spiced with a saffron-based broth and served up with butter-slathered toast to mop it all up. Yummy! Partner's lobster rigatoni was made with plenty of fresh lobster meat and a well flavored creamy sauce. He said it was filling and delicious. The beacon is a major sag harbor staple and I couldn't reccomend it enough. The food is fantastic and it's a wonderful spot to catch the sunset. I had the lobster rigatoni and chopped salad with frizzled shrimp tonight, which were both delicious. I do reccomend requesting to sit on the deck since the back room doesn't have those waterfront views. The service can sometimes be hit or miss and the cocktails aren't quite on par with the food, but I highly reccomend this establishment nonetheless. read more

The Beacon exceeded our expectations. We scored a lovely table outdoors and watched a beautiful sunset. Our waitress and waitstaff were lovely. We started off with a nice bottle of Vermentino. There are some moderately priced bottles on the wine list. My wife started off with the salad, which she really liked. I had excellent shrimp tacos. Three of us had the halibut en papillote, which was cooked perfectly. My wife had the rigatoni with lobster. Her end of the table was silent while she concentrated on her entree. We were too full for dessert and lingered over a cup of coffee. If you need further validation of this excellent restaurant, we saw a celebrity chef dining indoors. This place is great. It's been a staple for years. They recently started taking reservations due to Covid and it's a great time to secure a table. They have a prix fix 2 courses for $85. All of the food was delicious and staff were great. Get the burrata and tuna tartar to start. All of the entrees look good but damn the bouillabaisse it was so flavorful. A gem off the main drag in Sag Harbor. The menu includes 2 courses for $75 with tons of options. Our table ordered almost everything on the menu. The favorite were the lobster rigatoni, the pork chop, the bouillabaisse and the salmon tartare. The crispy portobello mushroom and mozzarella was also good but a bit too filling as an app so make sure to leave room for your main course. Amazing views and a friendly and accommodating staff. I came here last week for my friends birthday. The entire day her parents were raving about this restaurant so I was really looking forward to it and it did not disappoint. We each got an appetizer, I went with the appetizer special that day which was burrata, tomatoes, apples and grilled bread. I could have done without the apples, they didn't really bring anything to the dish but everything else was amazing. Shockingly, I found the grilled bread to probably be the best slice of bread I've ever had. It was delicious. For my entree, I decided to try the bouillibaise. I read the reviews on here and they weren't great but I wanted to be adventurous. Well, I'm glad I did because it was absolutely delicious. I ate the entire thing, which I almost never do. The dulce de lech gelato was also delicious for dessert but it was the bouillibaise that won me over read more

As I understand it, this place 'claim to fame' is the view of the sunset. My recommendation is watch the sunset from the docks and then go someplace else to eat. I had the cod which came on mashed potatoes and surrounded by three mussels. The dish came out room temperatures down the mussels were cold. When I sent it back it then came out warm but the fish ended up tough and as for the mussels, I didn't even try to eat them because they were gooey and really disgusting looking. My wife had the burger and she said it was ok. Would definitely NOT recommend! read more

From the moment I made our reservation with Lucy, everything was spectacular. We had booked an outside table, and because of the air quality concerns with the Canadian wildfires I had called back to see about an inside table. Lucy was very sweet and told us if anything opened up inside she would move us in. Luckily the air quality was perfect when we dined there, and we enjoyed a beautiful evening outside overlooking the water. Our waiter, I believe his name was David, was fabulous and attentive. We ordered the tuna tortilla special as an appetizer and it was outstanding. For a main course, I got the chicken, which was incredibly moist. It was also a nice-sized portion. Location and service are far better than the food. We showed up 10min before opening and waited on a line that was growing pretty rapidly. They opened at 5:30 on-the-dot and we were seated immediately at a prime spot on the balcony overlooking the marina. It was beautiful. Unfortunately, EV E R Y T H I N G lacked flavor. Everything. Personally, if I have to think about adding salt or ketchup to a dish, it's extremely subpar. I think condiments can be great accompaniments to compliment a dish, but when I'm adding them in search of flavor, it's a problem. The complimentary ciabatta bread was soft, fresh and enjoyable. We ordered the mussels appetizer, in a white cream sauce with onion and tomato. The sauce was creamy but rather thin and watery with absolutely no flavor whatsoever, we added (a significant amount of) salt and it helped, but they were still very bland. Our entrees were of generous portions, presented well and appeared very appetizing but the accompanying fries were boring, skinny, overly greasy and mostly, itsy, bottom-of-the-fry-basket, pieces (hidden under a few longer ones) I had a sirloin burger (medium rare) and though cooked to a perfect temperature, it was unbelievably bland and so disappointing. It was more than obvious that there was ZERO seasoning in the chop meat. My husband had the strip steak, and again, it's presentation was beautiful but lacked flavor overall. We both had to add salt to our entrees as well as the appetizer and we are not those people that regularly add salt to their food unless it's in the preparation/cooking process. Priced appropriately for the location and quality of food, but sadly, the flavor just didn't deliver and left much to be desired. The atmosphere was unbeatable and service was quick, friendly, and professional, thus making it a pleasant experience overall, earning it some well-deserved stars. We went to the Beacon for my birthday dinner, and it did not disappoint. They don't take reservations, walk-in only. We arrived around 7pm on a Saturday night, and waited about 30 minutes at the bar for an outdoor/view table. Tables inside had no wait, but it rained all day, so the story may be different on sunny Saturdays. The crowd picked up later in the evening. The view was really beautiful, and we loved looking out into the harbor at the boats and were lucky enough to get a few minutes of neon pink sunset dipping into the indigo horizon. The food was delicious too. We shared the mussels, and loved dipping the fresh bread into the savory broth. I went with the lobster rigatoni, which had a decadent cheddar/cream sauce and summery corn. I looooved this dish. The lobster was cooked perfectly, the rigatoni was al dente, and it felt perfect for summer. read more

Covid regulations are all being followed and they have removed loads of tables, providing everyone with lots of extra space. This has long been my favorite restaurant on the East End and once again it didn't fail to meet expectations. I'm thrilled that they accept reservations now because often what kept me from going were the long anticipated waits. The food is above and beyond excellent. I started with the crispy portobello mushroom which is delicious. My friends both ordered mussels, which they loved. Then I had the special snapper, my friend had the tuna crostata special and my other friend a pork chop. We also couldn't resist getting lobster Mac and cheese for the table. Exceptional quality food paired with tasty cocktails. We've come for sunset celebrations many times and it's an experience that is tough to beat in Sag Harbor. The Beacon is situated right on the harbor which is an excellent place for dinner while watching the sun set. We dined with my sister-in-law and her partner. We ordered the lobster rigatoni with aged cheddar and the boys ordered the grilled prime NY steak. I had a Mojito which was well made and refreshing on a late summer afternoon. The boys had beer and SIL had a mixed cocktail that she thoroughly enjoyed. The ambiance was nice, the food was tasty and served in a prompt fashion. There was a small kerfuffle prior to our being seated but I felt the restaurant handled the situation well by finding us a seat quickly and with friendly service thereafter. To conclude, The Beacon is a nice place for dining in Sag Harbor and I would come back again. read more

It's no secret that Sag Harbor has become the "it" town in the Hamptons. Real estate prices have soared. The summer sidewalks are almost impassible, while the streets, mostly unparkable. With all its recent fame, Sag Harbor's beguiling charm and modesty have unfortunately taken a decidedly turn for the worse. Nowhere is this more evident than in several of the eateries that now populate Main Street and its offshoots. For starters, New York City's Le Bilboquet, fueled by Ron Perelman's deep pockets, spawned a clone on Sag Harbor's pier. Not only was it impossible to get a reservation -- especially since its phone was unlisted and no online reservation was available -- but walk-ins were unceremoniously shunned at the door. The several people I knew who did manage a meal there, found the overpriced food to be a big meh. Another newcomer to the village this summer was Lulu. Always packed, the food too was just okay, but the real take-away were the extraordinary long waits diners had to endure for service. Finally, and there's no excuse for this: The Beacon, which first open its doors in 2000. This second floor restaurant just outside of town boasts a narrow row of outdoor seating facing west overlooking the harbor. Perfect for sunsets, right? One problem: no reservations are accepted: it's first-come, first-served. The eatery opens for dinner at 6pm, and people start lining up at 5:30pm. Our party of six arrived at around 6pm on a (post-season) September Saturday evening. The two maitre'd's didn't look up when we approached their station. After a brief moment, one finally engaged me and ultimately instructed us to: "Come back in 40 or 45 minutes so you'll be here when your table is ready. What's your mobile number?" We took a walk to Sag's fab bookstore, and 45 minutes later returned to the restaurant (without the benefit of a text notification). I approached the maitre'd to say we've returned as they advised. She did not look up, but eventually acknowledged my presence. She noted our presence but did not share an update on how much longer we'd have to wait. My pals asked me to press her for something more definitive, since an outdoor table did not appear to be in the cards and the level of noise in the indoor eating area was quite overwhelming. I returned to the maitre'd and gently asked her for the estimated wait time for a table. She coyly said it would be another half hour and claims that she originally told me it would be an hour and 15 minutes. (She hadn't.) I proceeded to ask why she would ask us to come back in 45 minutes when a table wouldn't be free for an hour and a quarter? She curtly cut me off: "Do not interrupt me." Huh? I suppose when your eating establishment is the beneficiary of your village's growing popularity (versus the actual food and ambience), you don't have to be especially accommodating, let alone civil. Sadly, the stress these hostesses suffered that night (and likely most nights) was sadly misdirected -- at us, the customers. My wife and I eat frequently dine at owner David Loewenberg's other restaurants -- Bell & Anchor and Fresno -- but we'd think twice before trying to land a table again at The Beacon. We'll opt to let the day-trippers take the abuse. (Two stars are for the harbor sunset views.) read more

A beautiful view...A delicious dinner with family...What more could anyone ask for? The Beacon provided all this and more on this warm Sag Harbor evening. Overlooking the yachts and sailboats while enjoying a fine chardonnay we began with the sharing of appetizers. Two orders of the fish tacos were uniquely prepared with pepper jack cheese. While not crispy as the menu suggested - with the added salsa and tomatoes the flavor and freshness of this delight could not be ignored. A second appetizer of Tuna Tartare was the best we've experienced in recent memory. With capers, cucumber and whole grain mustard - we couldn't have asked for more. However the best was yet to come as main courses arrived in timely fashion. The "Sesame Crusted Tuna" with Soba Noodles under a lite cabbage salad was excellent. Perfectly prepared the light crusted flake topping blended wonderfully with the tuna and noodles. The "Dijon-Crusted Cod" with mussels, potato puree and corn had an honest subtle flavor that could not be ignored - only appreciated. A light order of "Lobster Rigatoni" with cheddar and roasted corn was another winner as was the "Farro Bowl" with Kale and Grilled Eggplant. I had dinner here with friends last night. It was quite busy for a Sunday but I attribute that to the fact that it is Labor Day weekend. I'm not sure if we had a reservation but we sure waited quite a long time to be seated but we were a party of six so it's understandable. For drinks, they were very expensive but very generous. A round of 5 drinks came to $90!! It doesn't have a fancy decor but it sure has a lot of Sag Harbor's regulars on the scene. However it wasn't a snooty vibe. In fact, quite the opposite it was a very relaxed and laid-back kind of place. The service was above average but nothing spectacular. I think that was probably because they were very busy. Our server was very nice but seemed somewhat rushed. I had an amazing ribeye that was cooked perfectly. Served with a very fresh and lightly dressed arugula salad. The highlight of my visit here was the beautiful view of the dock and all of the boats with their twinkly lights. :) read more

Appetizer shouldn't be more than $25 while fish dinner should be no more than $35-40. Also one is never shown a dessert menu so they can charge as much as they like. Bread was not offered. What can I say, I am a sucker for a killer view and happy ending. Thankfully, I had both. Lets be pragmatic; a weekend reservation at ANY East Hampton restaurant with a view in the month of August is...in itself....a job. My expectations may not be that of the masses, because for me, anytime I can get a smile, a properly mixed libation and I sunset, I am happy. The Beacon appears casual but wreaks designer.... it is the perfect combination of "would you like a 2007 Silver Oak with your truffle bistro burger." With that said, we waited at the bar for about 30 minutes before we were seated. Some people may interpret this as a ploy of the restaurant to drive up the bar tab. I say who cares... if I were pressed for time, I suppose it would bother me. We had a very lovely waitress. Her name was Tina. She had really great energy and an infectious smile, which felt genuine. We had a fabulous table to take in the sunset. I had the Tuna Tartare and he had the NY strip. Both were good but if it were my restaurant, I would try something riskier on the menu to set my place apart from the others. The real story here is the afterparty... Dinner was very disappointing. The view was beautiful and the service was solid. For appetizers, the wedge salad was extremely overdressed to the point that it was just not enjoyable. The crispy taco was a very small portion. For the mail course, the sesame crusted tuna was good, but salad and noodles were so overdressed. Lastly the bouillabaisse should be overhauled it just taken off the menu. The waiter said it was very substantial which was so NOT the case. They put a lobster shell on top but there is no lobster meat. You get a small portion for $46. Don't bother. Sadly we will not be returning. read more

We had a table outside, but I would note that they're doing indoor dining (which we are not comfortable with) so would make sure you know where you're going to sit. What an amazing time we had!!!!! Came here to celebrate a birthday. Service was a bit slow initially so we went straight to the bar. Fabrice was quick and served our bottle of rosé with a smile. Not long after, we ordered food and it was delicious! Loved the lobster toast and the burger. Akeem came to clear the table and his Jamaican accent was to die for :) loved to hear his story about schooling and wishing him the best. Lucas came To check on us and ensure that we were having the most amazing time. Such an amazing feeling. Seneca ensured that we got off okay and wished us a good night. Food is delicious (though steak is so-so) stuff is friendly EXCEPT the manager or whoever he was). He definitely made a great contribution to ruin our dinner. We booked for 8, then 2 left because they couldn't wait any longer for waitress to order. He said we should have let him know why we are 6 now (without asking the reason why our friends left at the first place) I think he was so upset that he decided at every convenience demonstrate to us his frustration. We had two kids with us and I can tell because of that guy this place is NOT kids friendly. When my friend took kids to the terrace to enjoy fireworks he said they cannot be there even they were wearing masks and kept 6 ft distance. Only go here if you hate money and good service ! The bartenders suck and have an attitude like they are doing YOU a favor. They are also slow and panic under pressure. Food is overpriced and underwhelming. I fell like the waiter should have had a ski mask and a gun when he handed us the check. If you are paying between $30-$40 for an entree, at least put some love into the food ! Amazing view of the dock makes this place a great spot for dinner. Great variety of plates offered with a large crowd of Hampton locals.
