Again, wish I could give 1/2 stars because I would give it 4.5 stars. If a place ever earned the phrase "don't just a book by its cover", it is this place. I had chosen this place to have dinner with friends from out of town that were vacationing in Sag Harbor. Reviews looked pretty good and fit what they were looking for: good food, water view, not too far from where they were staying. When we drove up, I was seriously questioning myself. The outside looks like a little dated and small. But as other reviewers have said, the interior is very nice and spacious! We were lucky to get a window table although it was foggy so we could not see a lot of the water; just the parking lot and dock. But still better than nothing. I forgot to take pictures of the apps but we shared multiple orders of the burata, fritto misto and salmon tartare (yes, you read that right). All were good and I did enjoy the tartare. For entrees, I got the fish and chips, Cathie got the bouillabaisse, friends got the chicken Milanese special (what a deal!!), Scottish salmon with ramen, burgers, and another bouillabaisse. We all loved our choices but highlights were definitely the chicken Milanese dinner special (because even with slight up charges for certain items, it is an amazing deal!!); and the bouillabaisse. As some other reviewers have said, this is a MUST ORDER! The broth is not too tomato forward but instead is very flavorful with other spices, not just saffron, and the same food is generous and prepared so well! I will come back just for this! My fish and chips were good, even the Cole slaw although I prefer meatier French fries (although these were still good, nice and crispy). Bell and Anchor is located outside of the Nautical town of Sag Harbor. The food is scrumptious and the service is ideal. Securing one of the tables by the window overlooking Noyac Bay is definitely a splendid bonus, especially when the summer sun is setting, making it a picture-perfect time to capture the spectacular cotton-colored sky. Reservations are almost mandatory during peak season; wanting to book same day is challenging, however, late evening oftentimes works. A long, dark bar sits by the entryway with cheerful bartenders awaiting. The Bouillasse is a favorite, with clams, muscles, fish, shrimp and lobster in an an unbelievable pinkish-red stew flavored with lovely saffron. I was slightly disappointed the lobster didn't budge easily out of the shell. Nevertheless, the Bouillasse still remains a favorite. Without a doubt, I'll be back for more. read more

Decided to check this place out while we were visiting Shelter Island. Just took a ferry over and enjoyed the beautiful views on the way over. We had a reservation for outside, but it was so hot we asked if we could sit inside, and they were very accommodating. We ordered the frito misto, surf and turf, and the lobster pasta dish. This place is like the Tardis. Small on the outside and bigger on the inside. The food is good but not great. I got the Ribs. The spinach that came with it was raw and unseasoned. The fries came out cold while the container it came in was hot. The ribs themselves were good. They call it a "Guava baby back ribs" but I tasted no guava. The lobster risotto had only traces of lobster at best. The cod dish was pretty good. Service was average. They brought out the food super fast. There is always something cold or undercooked when food comes out that fast. Today it was the fries. The dining room is kept so dark you can't see the food that's in front of you. read more

This is a good option for the hamptons with a nice location, but I didn't find the food to be that great. The tuna was a little salty, there was way too much soy sauce. They forgot to bring our shrimp dish for us. The lobster pasta was good, but unlike the tuna, it needed salt (and pepper). This is up there for best meal I've had. For appetizers we got a dozen of the East coast oysters which were very fresh and sweet, The Naughty Blu was very good and, when asked, got a generous amount of extra blue cheese olives, the Apple Bread Pudding was amazing and a decent size. But the star of the meal was the Local Flounder Francaise. The fish was flaky and well seasoned, the veggies were perfectly cooked and the beurre blanc sauce was nice and rich. Overall, *french kiss*. Giving 4 stars though because, while our server was nice and attentive, they didn't know whether one dessert had nuts in it or not, which one person in our party was allergic to. Luckily, before she ate it we luckily caught it in time. But with nut allergies being so serious and common you should know what does or does not have nuts in it. read more

My wife and I were looking for a romantic sunset seafood dinner. My search found this place one of the only restaurants nearby that was open on a Tuesday in November. We came for the sunset and found an exceptional dining experience. I took some spectacular pictures when we arrived but once we sat down to eat, we forgot about the sunset. We ordered the calamari salad special. It was fresh crispy calamari on a bed of arugula and frisée served with a creamy chili dressing with peanuts. It was a spectacular salad. We loved it so much, we asked to purchase some of the dressing. We then ordered fish and chips. We recently travelled to England and loved the fish and chips there. The fish here was well buttered and very crunchy (just as I like it) It came with two healthy pieces of fish. They served it with both malt vinegar (traditionally British) and tartar sauce. Came with a overflowing serving of fries and delish slaw. All were fresh and tasty. Kevin was our server and he was excellent, checking in on us frequently and very attentive. We finished the dinner with a brownie and ice cream. I bit too fiudgie for me. Also if the brownie was warm I t would have been a nice touch. But I won't even count dessert. Unassuming from the outside, excellent on the inside. We were the last table - eight people, no reservation, and a quick call ahead before arriving - on a sleepy off-season Thursday night. We left happily satiated after being very well taken care of. Bell and Anchor offers good cocktails and wine and the food, from appetizers to entrees, is excellent. We started with a couple dozen Montauk oysters which were terrific, which you'd hope for since they come from just down the road. I could eat these for hours with a nice, non-sweet sparkling wine. The Oaxacan old fashioned, with Mezcal, drew good cocktail reviews and I had The Mary, a fresh and clean drink with cucumber vodka (light on the cuke taste), St. Germain, and a splash of pineapple juice. For food, the mussels were awesomely juicy and cooked for just the right amount of time, with coconut milk and lemongrass. The burrata salad - always a favorite - was yummy, with arugula, roasted figs, pomegranate seeds, and a light balsamic dressing. Bell and Anchor has nightly entree specials and we were lucky that Thursday is bouillabaisse night. Several of us ordered it and all were happy with it, especially on a chilly night. Ive been going to BnA for quite a few years. Was always consistently good until this past season. Our party ordered the special which was swordfish with spinach gnocchi and carrots. The swordfish was stick your throat dry, carrots underdone and gnocchi was doughy and tasteless. All a big disappointment at quite an expense . The past couple of dinners the fish dish on the menu was also way overcooked. What to say? I love this restaurant and I'm hoping the kitchen pulls it together. If you're looking for a great dinner than look no further. We were seated promptly at a gorgeous table overlooking the sunset. The restaurant itself has a really warm, classic vibe and great views. Service was well above average. This is one of the few restaurants where you really don't feel rushed. Everything was timed appropriately and we never had to ask for anything. The food was PERFECT. And I mean perfect. The pork chop was super moist and flavorful. Burger was on point. The fish was very fresh and cooked well. My god. My human god. What a place. They boasted about their bouillabaisse once. I had never known how to spell it, but a sign near the bathroom said "it's back." I had never heard of a bouillabaisse being "back", much less gone in the first place.
