Whole roasted Montauk fluke for 2
Emily C.

Narrow dining with tight tables but the food makes up for it. Server was not happy when we asked for assistance deboning the whole fluke. But the meal itself was spectacular.

We went here on a Sunday evening with the gals who has been here before. The place was lively with locals and families. We had a drink at the bar as they prepped our table. The bartender was seasoned and skilled making an excellent Cosmo. The menu is full of local and seasonal dishes that are quite enticing. We decided to order a bunch of things to nosh on. The prawns were noteworthy and we sopped up the sauce with extra bread. We topped off the meal with a rustic tart of nectarines (maybe) that was served with a creme fraiche. Lovely. We had a great time and enjoyed the friendly service.

This place is quite popular in the area and for good reason. My favorite dish was the razor clams, which are hard to find and absolutely delicious. The service is excellent, and the ambiance is lovely. I visited during a quiet afternoon, which made the experience even better. Their coffee is also really good.

Il Buco al Mare has 3.5 stars on Yelp, which I would say is a pretty accurate rating. I would have gone with 4, but decided on 3 based on a few things from my dining experience: First off, my husband and I usually like to share a bunch of shareable things instead of ordering individual large mains. We ordered the following: Oysters - no complaints here, they were delicious. They were already dressed with vinegar and whatever else, it didn't come with condiments or anything. Crudo - yummy! So tasty. It also had little bits of mango in it and all the flavors really complemented well together. Margherita Focaccia - this was basically a Margherita pizza on focaccia bread. Really good! The bread was dense but delicious. Stuffed Squid Tin - this was interesting. It came with little slices of crostini with butter. It was just ok, but what was not so great was that as I was cutting into it on my plate I saw a small piece of hair- I was done eating after that. We told the waitress who took it off our bill, which was appreciated. Everything else we ordered: Prawns, Broccolini, and Roasted Corn - all of these were nothing special, but good! I would have given Il Buco a 4, but after the whole hair incident I bumped it down to a 3. The meal was good- not great, but not terrible either. Better than average I would say. Being in Amagansett where good restaurants are far and few in between, I would say this is one of the better ones. We also were able to make a reservation the day-of, and it was a pretty setting- good for an easy date night!

This place has a VERY LIMITED MENU and NO LIQUOR LICENSE. They have a selection of the menu of seafood that is from "tins". They import the mackerel, squid and scallops from Spain. However, the prawns and the steak were DELICIOUS!! The SERVICE was SUBPAR. The manager had to cover for his staff and take over for us. But then he went back to his manager role and never checked in on us afterwards. We asked for a second bottle of water, but it never came.

Went in a Monday Night. It was busy. Sat outside which turned out ok because the weather cooperated. They do have umbrellas. But if it's raining hard. You can't sit outside. The food was very good. Had the mushroom pizza. Excellent. Margarita pizza was good. Oysters. Very good. Tuna appetizer was ok. Shirt steak. Excellent. Half and chicken excellent. Broccolini delicious. Had two cucumber vodka drinks. Refreshing. It's the Hamptons. So it was not cheap. But within reason. Service was good. Went to see Donavan frankenreiter at the Talkhouse after. Super convenient. Recommended!

Eggplant and Anchovy Focaccia

Beautiful restaurant that is thankfully open all year. My colleagues and I stopped in and all chose to go with a focaccia (Don't call it pizza!) albeit different versions. I'd love to try the other menu items but if I had to live off of their focaccia for the rest of my life I'd be a pretty happy person. The combination and flavors were absolutely delicious. I went with the Roasted Mushroom and I chose wisely. My colleagues ordered the Eggplant and Anchovy and also a Bianca. They were both outstanding as well but I'm a big fan of mushrooms. I tried all three as sharing is strongly encouraged here. The wait staff were super friendly and we even got to talk with the chef for a bit of background on the restaurant and area. I hope to visit Amagansett again so I can return to this lovely establishment.

Don't wash your time or money. Too overcrowded, bad service, small menu, portions too small too. Parking is difficult.

The young man waiting on is explained that because it is a bed and breakfast they had restrictions on dining hours ok I understand As the night progresses and me on a sour mood.. these folks were able to turn it around with kindness , thoughtful care and exceptional food The salad with buratta was so fresh , very simple but elegant In presentation The Tuna Tatare an absolute powerhouse of clean flavor without a fishy aroma. The bomb dish ( in a good way) was the linguine with lobster. Wow!!! Many places here on EH destroy your wallet just by using the title " lobster" this perfectly seasoned dish is a light butter cream sauce was not at all heavy the lobster plentiful and frankly enough for two ppl All in all my only complaint is that they are only open Wednesday through Saturday but hey.. if it's that good it worth planning around their schedule. Go!

My friend knows much more about wine than I do, so he was the decision maker for our wine choices and we ordered a 1/2 bottle of red which we both found to be very delicious. Of course, we had to try some food too and the small bites menu was perfect with something to satisfy nearly every taste. We opted for the meat charcuterie, and it was beautifully presented with enough for the two of us to share. There is also a cheese charcuterie on the menu, but unfortunately there is not an option for a combined meat and cheese plate. We sat, sipped, and tasted for a while and never felt rushed. The atmosphere was so comfortable and we'll definitely consider going back here again.

I didn't have the best time at Providence Wine Bar…read more This might sound a little haughty, but hear me out: I can drink wine at home. I can browse a liquor store & pick out a bottle that exactly fits my preferences, my mood, & my budget. I can bring it home & uncork the wine, checking the cork for freshness. I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. I just wanted to be done with my glass of wine so that I could leave. All of that being said, I wish them the best. It seems like they need a good manager's touch.

Why have I been walking past Alpina everytime I'm in Greenport?…read more Was it the dark atmosphere? Did I think I was getting just another American-German influenced restaurant with only brats and potato pancakes? Did I expect polka? The experience was actually slow and refined, without the white tablecloths. Alpina has German, Swiss, and slightly Northern Italian influenced cuisine, along with a selection of alcohols I was completely unfamiliar with... which made the experience feel full of new things. The most memorable food was actually one of the simplest. The chef prepared incredibly creamy, caramelized onions with a slight sauerkraut tang that was amazeballs. I told our waiter that I'd write him a love letter over it, and here I am! The pappardelle had shredded duck, cheese, and big, fun, chewy noodles that were satisfying to slurp. It just needed a dash of pepper to elevate it. The meat and cheese board included a few things I'd never tried before, and it was so good I was searching for a meat shop in Manhattan so we could buy them again. Portion sizes aren't huge for the price, but it was worth it to us. Don't be afraid of the dark entrance, the ligonberry on the menu, and ask the bartender about the connection between the giant copper gnome and penguin shaker gone rouge.
