The weather was gorgeous, they had live music by the water with a very talented musician singing covers too. If you drive by quickly, you will miss waypoint restaurant,from the corner of my eye while driving I saw people sitting out on the point by the water, so i turned around and gave it a shot, from the quality of the cars in the parking lot I could tell off the bat, It was a high-end restaurant walked in got a table and we're surrounded by water, wealthy patrons and plenty of boats from the Hamptons even got a glimpse of the celebrity. Brooke shields was having lunch. We sat for 15 minutes and no one came to our table. Finally, an owner or a manager asked if we were being helped and I said no , a waitress came over took our order and the food was mid. The octopus was served cold and tiny little pieces mixed with salad I've never seen a grilled lemon That was ice cold on top of the salad before ,the food almost came out too quickly as if the dishes were premade in the fridge, the crowd is pretentious, even though the restaurant is pretty I thought it would be a lot better, but I don't think I will be coming back read more

What a gem. Still a little early in the season so it was fairly easy to get a reservation at our preferred time. The food was spectacular so we decided to share a few appetizers and the main. The blackfish was a special and not being a huge fan of fish I was so excited to realize how great it tasted. Pricey but all the restaurants "out East" are comparable with nyc prices. My party of three waited at a table for quite some time. We had to go sit at the bar for service. Complicated menus. There is a pre 4 0'clock lunch menu. A four to five menu and an after five dinner menu. We were there at 3:50 thus ordering was a bit complicated. One would expect to have higher prices on an upscale waterside restaurant. The food did not live up to the price. We all had the pasta seafood dish. Told it would be served with linguine bucatini came out instead. The pasta was properly al dented but did not seemed married to the watery sauce. No black cracked pepper was available. It was a minor ordeal to get grated cheese. . I had an empty glass sitting in front of me for most of my time. They missed out of a couple more drinks on my bill. Twenty dollar drinks and forty five dollar plates. They have the nerve to charge a credit card processing fee on the bill. The music was suitable for the background. Disco Techno garbage. Played too loud. We rolled up on our boat like we've been doing for years, and it's been such a joy watching Waypoint grow in popularity. The food has always been amazing fresh, creative, and consistently delicious. But this year, something else stood out even more: our server, William. From the very beginning, he made us feel like family. He carried himself with the kind of ease and expertise you'd expect from someone who's trained at a top restaurant (I can't remember if he said Eleven Madison Park or another Michelin-star spot, but either way, it showed!). William guided us through the menu. He suggested the perfect wine pairings for each course he knew the highlights of the menu inside and out, and truly elevated the entire dining experience. Every recommendation hit the mark. We've had many great nights here over the years, but this one stands out as the best yet not just for the incredible food and music, but for the outstanding service William provided. Waypoint is lucky to have him on their team, and we can't wait to come back for another evening like this! Summary I recommend Waypoint because it is a beautiful setting and the Halibut was so good ($55). The hostess and manager (Chris) were terrific. The waiter did come around towards the end of the meal. Too little too late? Perhaps. Hopefully this will be received with the intent it is being written- to help enable decision makers to implement strategies to make a very good restaurant even better. For that price, you'd expect not only top-quality ingredients but also complete transparency about where your food comes from. The ambience was wonderful. Sunset on the water - beautiful. The service was a bit lacking. The waiter made it seem like we were imposing on him by being there. Most of the mask was good. But, I had the tuna crude which was fairly tasteless and overpowered by the chipotle aioli and the filet mignon special. For $70, I expected it to be cooked properly (med rare) and the vegetables to be more than lukewarm. I had to add salt to everything to get it to taste okay and left half the steak uneaten. When we received the check, there was a $10 credit card fee added. They never said that we needed to be prepared with $400+ cash for the meal to avoid the charge. For a restaurant with these prices it I'd ludicrous to charge a fee for using a credit card. It's only ten bucks but absolutely makes certain we will never return and won't be recommending to our friends. read more

The food however was borderline disrespectful. The fish and chips I had was awful. I couldn't eat it. Imagine a flavorless cod, coated in a funnel cake batter, underdone, without a sprinkle of salt. The moment I saw the color of the fish as the server brought it out, I knew it would bad. To make matters worse, it was served with cold, stale fries. A friend recommended the spot. 25 min drive from Aquebogue home, not bad. So worth the the lil drive. Restaurant is on the water, beautiful view. We had Janine as our waitress and she was a sweetheart. The espresso martinis were delicious and they let me substitute it with Casa Migos ! So I was very pleased! Meatballs are the bomb!!! Steer clear of this restaurant. The staff ruins the experience of a beautiful view and decent food. They are catty, talk poorly and mock customers in their clear view. Fortunately wasn't done to me. Phenomenal evening here with friends. The location is really quite remarkable. So close to the water that at high tide it nearly kisses your toes. The views of Jennings Point & Kissing Rock, on Shelter Island, were spectacular. The restaurant looks recently updated, well kept & clean. The service was lovely; attentive and friendly. Nothing snooty about this place. There's a great outdoor bar area & plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We sat at a table by the water and the food was really very good. Not sure why I was surprised, but seriously, this chef, Matt, is excellent. Pasta dishes were perfectly seasoned & not over-sauced. Who makes a light bucatini dish? This place :) My friends were delighted by the Halibut & chicken as well. I'll be going back again soon & I will post more pictures of the restaurant itself. Go check it out! You will not be disappointed. Update: went back with my husband & son tonight. Blown away again! Excellent. Made resi for Tuesday night. So we truly love a lot about this place HOWEVER, I don't think I can go back there again if they continue to hire a DJ! I have nothing against DJ's but he clearly doesn't have a mix that is suitable for the NOFO dinner crowd. Way tooooooo loud and way too much bass. One of the pleasures of Long Island is being able to stop and enjoy fabulous cuisine wherever you go. Waypoint did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, we were greated by a courteous maitre-a-dee and immediately introduced to the manager, Chris Campbell. We were a little early for our reservation so he offered to sit us at the outside bar. Our bartender, Adam, made us very tasty margaritas. The view from our table was so picturesque which was in sync with a crystal clear afternoon. Our smiling server, Kathy, readily took our orders for appetizers and the main meals and were delivered within minutes. I can't talk enough about the food which was beautifully presented and unbelievably delicious followed by equally fabulous dessert. Overall a truly pleasant and enjoyable afternoon and evening which ended with sitting around the fire pit enjoying after dinner drinks and a cigar. A must stop if you're in Southold. read more

I absolutely loved my experience at waypoint. The atmosphere is incredible and the waitress was so friendly. My drink was never left empty and did not need to hail waitress down for refills. The setting is quintessential North Fork with outside dining on the water. We have been here three times in the past 6 weeks. The staff are pleasant and hard working, and have gotten our orders correct every time. The octopus in the appetizer was not especially tender. The mussels however were superb. We have gotten the peach caprese salad twice. It is delicious but the peaches were a little underripe the second time we ordered it. The poached fluke was really delicious--moist and tender with a flavorful sauce. The non fish-eater in our group loved the roast chicken. The halibut special was disappointing. The portion was generously sized but the fish was tough and disappointing. The $45 price made this especially (pun intended) hard to swallow. Prices have been heading up on the North Fork. The only reason this restaurant is getting two stars is because the server was so polite and it's a beautiful spot. I have enjoyed this place in the past, although it was never great food, but right now, it's absolutely abominable. Our pleasant waiter was very interested that we were happy, but with what we were served that was just impossible. A $22 California roll appetizer which listed crab as an ingredient, was a complete disaster. I ordered this, and it was five pieces and there was no crab. It was fake crab (haddock and sugar, corn starch, and regular starch pounded into an emulsion of fish with red food coloring) -- fake crab. When I questioned the ingredients, I was told by the waiter, after he politely checked, that the chef insisted all California rolls were made with this kind of imitation crab. Having cooked professionally and being from California for many years, I knew this was a complete bullshit. A meatball appetizer, although a substantial amount of protein, could not have been more tasteless. Then came the lobster roll, a $38 "roll" -- one ounce of very old, plastic-tasting lobster meat, with absolutely no seasoning, nor fresh herbs, on a brioche hotdog bun that had been frozen, microwaved, and then toasted into oblivion - - absolutely hard and inedible. Two arugula leaves garnished the top. Never again. As mentioned, the waiter could not have been nicer, but there is no way this meal should be over $100. The food could not have been worse; we left most of our lunch, paid the bill, and went to Southold Seafood market down the street for some cups of lobster salad - - absolutely delicious and satisfying.
