Gin Beach Cafe in Montauk is a really nice spot by the water with a great view of the docks. I had the Lobster Roll BLT, a watermelon martini, and fresh oysters. Everything tasted fresh, especially the oysters, and the martini was perfect for a Summer day. The service was okay but the food was better. It is a little overpriced, but the food and the setting make it worth visiting. read more

This was our second year coming and I was as unimpressed as last year. The food was fine-I don't know if it is $200+ good for a family of four, but I expect that in Montauk. We made reservation for a group of 11 a week ago and confirmed it several days. But as mentioned in previous post, the service is rough!!! The employees are nice but there is not enough of them. We were frequently told they only have "one person in the kitchen". Food was not brought out together. At one point everyone got their meals but myself and six year old daughter. Eventually my chicken showed up but not my daughters chicken fingers (which I would think would be the easiest ti make). Our server didnt return for a long time so it finally took someone in our party shouting "excuse me!!" At a bartender walking by to get help. We had to stop someone twice and just got attitude. My daughters meal finally showed up when some of our party was finishing their meal. I had ordered a side with my entree and it never came. I ordered another beverage...it never came. I honestly would not have tipped 20% except it was already on our bill because of party size. I used to be a server, so I get it!! But it was horrible service!! I was so irritated by the time my chicken came, I didnt even want it. They were aware our large party was coming and they were not prepared. The best part of the meal is the boats and view. I will not be coming back to spend $200 on okay food and poor service. read more

If I could give zero stars, I probably would. If incompetent, rude service is something that you're searching for- you should come here and see Jaimie. Soft shell crab? No crab with a whole lotta shell that tastes like it was fried in last week's oil. Then when we questioned the dish, Jaimie literally rolled her eyes openly and we requested a new taco to replace the inedible dinner that Never. Came. Out. We had to ask the other servers around us for anything that we needed because she never came back over to ask us if we needed anything. The only good thing we had was the baked clams. I understand being busy. That's not what this was. She was completely rude and should maybe question her career choice. Horrible. read more

Loved it!!!! Food was DELICIOUS and the vibes were just immaculate. The view was so nice on the water at sunset, the radio had the best music and our waitress was so kind and attentive. We've never been here before but definitely will come back when we're in the area. read more

Ambience at Gin Beach Cafe is top notch. Overlooking the marina with beautiful boats at the dock. We were nicely greeted and seated party of four. Ordered cocktails and or waitress took our order. She returned and told us the bread board was not available it was early 5:45 pm. Our fish dishes were less than appetizing to the eye and in flavor. Waitress could not identify the fish. Visited Gin Beach with my sister, nephew and his girlfriend. The setting was lovely. Near the marina with views of the water and lots of boats. We had frozen drinks and a watermelon martini which were fabulous. Two people had lobster rolls which they loved and I had a salad which was very nice. Besides the great lobster rolls the French fries were great, better than the tater tots. Service was excellent. We were just visiting for the weekend but will definitely go back when in town. read more

We were vacationing in Montauk this week and decided to try Gin Beach Cafe for the very first time. I can't say enough good things about the drinks, food and service. Our waiter's name is Heath, but he goes by the nick name of BB. BB was so personable, made our dinner fun and happy. The food was delicious and a great menu to choose from, our drinks were made to perfection. I ordered a gin and tonic and I have to say it was the best gin and tonic I ever had. Great find! Terrific location overlooking Lake Montauk. Outdoor and indoor dining. Stopped in for lunch on a Friday and I think we were seated by the owner and waited on by his wife. Very friendly couple and great service. Started with a bowl of She crab bisque which was decadent topped with a bit of cream and sherry! We wife had the Fried Calamari which came with deep fried cherry peppers and a wonderful marinara! I had tuna tacos that were seared and rare and served with a spicy sauce but not hot! Very informal outdoor dining. A nice hang, though not cheap. Literally on a boat dock. The ambience is as pleasant as the weather, no more, no less. I had a crunchy tuna & spinach wrap that was terrific: seared ahi tuna wrapped in spinach with tempura bits (the "crunch"), all wrapped in a spinach tortilla. It was too much to finish there, but made a great lunch for two days. The server was attentive and unobtrusive, just right. read more

Fantastic find on our latest trip out to Montauk. Just like another reviewer described, the Gin Beach Cafe is a true hidden gem, or at least it was this weekend now that we're in the off season. The service was great - warm, friendly, welcoming staff who checked in on us and ensured we always had food and drinks. The food itself was quite delicious, I had the Mediterranean grilled chicken pita and my fiancé got the pulled pork off the Oktoberfest menu, the giant Bavarian pretzel was absolutely phenomenal - literally the best pretzel we had, plus it came with great beet cheese and two types of mustard. We'll definitely be back during the summer months and in the fall for the Oktoberfest menu. It's great that there's a local spot with not only great food, friendly staff, but also great views. I recommend it to locals and visitors alike. Can't wait to come again! read more

Today was our second visit to Gin Beach - another beautiful day on the marina! We were a bit early before opening time but Jaimie couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly! She brought us menus and waters while waiting for the kitchen to open. I had the clam chowder and the blackened tile slider - a great recommendation from Jaimie. Don had the fish and chips, (of course), and Vanessa had the ahi tuna, and the Thai chili rock shrimp tacos. We were all delighted with each bite of perfectly prepared food! The clam chowder came in a huge bowl - it was filling by itself! The blackened tile was moist and just a little bit spicy! Don said it was the best fish (so fresh) and chips around (the fries are real potatoes, he likes to note). We'll return as often we can! read more

Excellent Margheritas and frozen daiquiris with a gorgeous marina view. Add to that a spot-on lobster roll with huge lobster chunks and the perfect balance of mayo, celery and scaliions on a perfectly butter-toasted roll and you have a five star experience. Highly recommended! read more

This is a unique place in Montauk, well worth the ride to the other side of the Lake. We come every year and Amy never disappoints, be ready for fantastic food at a reasonable price. The attention to detail shows throughout the meal. Fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. The staff is busy but attentive we were then on busy night and they found room for four people and made us feel at home, by the end of the night we knew their names and the owners husband offered us a ride back to the marina, I should mention it was pouring out. Worst Dining experience ever! I came here on 7/3/2024 for dinner and we waited about 15 minutes for a table it was busy however I thought "If its busy maybe this place is good" boy way I wrong. Nice location with a beautiful view of the harbor but that's about it. I had the absolute worst seafood Fra Diavolo ever. Tasted like they opened up a jar of Ragu and added water. The seafood wasn't fully cooked throughout. No flavor, no spice whatsoever. That and a $17 dollar glass of wine brought my meal to $73 including the tip. The service was good. By far the best low key place in Montauk. Amazing patio, outdoor marine setting. Love the Kiwis, Pauli and Jaimie who operate it were accommodating and lovely! They go above and beyond to provide an A+ experience! Mary was our server she was kind, doing her best as she was running around like crazy because this place is short staffed the owner should of came to help out and apparently they can't handle a dinner crowd. The food was not great , one salad was drenched with dressing the other with none at all. After making a reservation yesterday by phone and speaking to a male employee who asked how to spell my first name, we showed up on time only to be told we didn't have a reservation. They then told us we could go to the bar and have a drink and when a table was available we could be seated. No attempt was made to find the employee that took our reservation and no acknowledgement was made. Since all tables were occupied it was not going to be soon. Don't bother making a reservation. Went in last week with family,waitress mary was hysterical an so accommodating...food took a while but she made sure she kept checking on us. There was a very large guy barking orders at her and the other waiter that I didn't think was appropriate, not sure who he was but he was running food. He seemed out of place and disheveled. Nice location and that's about it. Got baked clams that were basically clam flavored stuffing, dried out and just unpleasant. Lobster slider had an off putting after taste, probably from the burnt bun. Pulled pork slider was meh... Drinks were ok. Service was lackluster. I usually love this place,I come here every year. But this year was not like usual. First of all it took them an hour and 10 minutes to make me and my family's food which is only 4 people (including me) which is not really a problem but a family of six that came in after us got their food maybe 10 minutes after they ordered. Which I thought was unfair; secondly me,my cousin, and my mom ordered a burger. We asked for the burger to be well done. But when we got our burgers we noticed they were juicy and the juice looked red. But we didn't think anything of it until we cut the burger and the burger was cooked it was red and we noticed the juice was blood. And lastly (this was a minor inconvenience) when I got my drink, our waitress smacked my drink on the table and it spilled all over but the sad part was she didn't even say sorry or try to help and clean the spill up. For Montauk 'regulars' this is in the old Dave's Grill spot. Its on the water, casual, relaxed and beautiful. The new owners have done a fantastic job keeping it reasonably priced for Montauk. Tacos. Real, awesome tacos. Full sized, priced right and delicious. Not 9 dollar street tacos with nothing on them. If you used to love the old Hideaway before it changed management...this is your new spot. GREAT drinks, great beers, and fantastic service. Laid back, awesome menu, and the food came out hot, delicious and prompt. We have been going to Montauk for decades every summer, have been shocked at the changes some of the regular spots have made to charge for water, bread, or just rush you while doubling their prices. Gin Beach Cafe is nothing like any of these places. PS. If your server wearing a mask is what you need to provide a proper review, you need to stay home. read more

Stopped in for a cocktail and stayed for dinner! Best view in montauk. Spotlessly clean, great atmosphere, friendly staff and everything was delicious. Sit out in the deck and watch the boats go by. We started with the hummus which was served with warm pita, feta, cucumbers, olives and peppers it was a meal in itself. Then tried the mussels fra diavolo with garlic bread which were plump and delicious and the sliders were so tasty. House Cabernet was excellent and service top notch. We had a wonderful evening here on Thursday July 7th, 2022. It was a quiet night; the setting was amazing; service was great (brava, Caroline!); and food was tasty and fresh. We began with the flash-fried calamari (the fried peppers were spicy-hot -- too spicy for me but the calamari tender and delicious); then moved to oysters and clams (of these, strong preference for the oysters); and ended up with the crunchy tuna wrap (a revelation!) and tacos (daily catch, lobster, and shrimp). They were all good, and we were also pleased that after our delicious Margaritas, our (generous) glasses of Pinot Grigio were tasty and chilled and only $12 apiece. This is a "chill" and beautiful setting for dinner. We would gladly return. read more

We are so happy that we discovered this gem. We liked it so much that we had dinner there twice during our stay. First, the view is beautiful, overlooking the docks. There is a canopy above that would prevent any inclement weather from ruining your meal. The decor is cool - like a seafood place but stepped up. We were a party of nine - six adults and three kids. Every one of us enjoyed our meal. We tried the sheet nachos and the flash calamari. A couple of us tried the fish of the day and it was delicious. Some of us also tried their assortment of tacos. The shrimp tacos were delicious and we tried the fish of the day in taco form, as well. One of us was thrilled with a tuna dish. The staff is very friendly. The prices are more reasonable than other quality restaurants we tried. We wish them a successful rest of the season. We will definitely be back! read more

I'm going to give three stars and assume we came on a bad night. Our server was pleasant but was unable to be attentive due to them being understaffed. We tried really hard to be patient and didn't want to make a big fuss but it was pretty bad. You're paying for the ambiance if anything. The lobster rolls were $40 each (mkt price- to be expected) but they weren't good. The bun tasted burnt and the lobster itself was overcooked and tough. It felt like straight robbery when we got the bill. We informed them that we weren't thrilled about the food quality and our waitress said she notified the kitchen, and their response was "sorry" and that was it. Nothing more nothing less. We honestly didn't expect much more than that, so we just accepted that we struck out and went on about our night. (What we had left of it) It took over two hours to complete our meal which was one round of beer, two soups (which I ate with a fork cause they never came back with a spoon), and 3 lobster rolls because of the wait times. Maybe it was just a fluke, but I wouldn't be quick to recommend this place at all. read more
