And it came to pass that we made our annual journey out East -to the Hampton- to visit old friends who moved their home's out there. There were six of us, three old fashioned, traditional couples, each consisting of a male & a female. The meeting spot was Cowfish in Hampton Bays. The traffic on 27a-Montauk Hwy, was slow and tedious, so we were late. We valet parked. Our friends were at the bar. They gave us a table on floor two on the veranda, open to the outside, but covered. It was good, but it was noisy. A table of young (in their twenties) ladies was nearby. They sounded like a gaggle of geese. We ordered. It was typical casual restaurant menu. I ordered a burger with bacon & fries. Others ordered fish or veggie meals, I didn't really take note. Food came out pretty quickly. We scarfed and drank and chatted about nothing in particular. The bill came. We split three ways. It was painless. So there you have it: food OK, price OK, service OK. I finally was able to come here for date night! I made a reservation and I highly recommend making a reservation as it gets packed. It took about 10 minutes for us to be seated. The service was very good and everyone was attentive. For apps we decided to try the skillet cornbread and the crispy Brussels sprouts. I have to say the Brussels sprouts were delicious! They were nice and crunchy and not overly drenched in sauce. The only issue is that I did ask for no onions and it was served with a lot of onions. Everyone raves about the skillet cornbread, but I have to say it was not my favorite. It's baked with maybe jalapeños or something spicy and it is drizzled with honey. It was a little on the dry side so I wasn't a fan. The steak was cooked medium and the potato was good. The cauliflower steak was delicious! It was served with a butternut whipped feta which was probably my favorite part of the dish. They also have butternut whipped feta as an appetizer and I think next time I will definitely be getting is as it was so delicious! Another great place in the Hamptons! I love the fact that you can dock your boat here or come by land. I've been here via both modes of transportation. I also love that the service is very good. Of course I've been here for the most important reason- the food! The food is exceptional. This past time we got the shrimp appetizer, lobster roll, and the steak for dinner. So much flavor! I can't wait to try other items on the menu! This was my second visit to Cowfish in Hampton Bays, and once again, it did not disappoint. I was lucky enough to have the same waitress as my first time--Gabby--who is just as friendly, attentive, and on point as I remembered. She made the whole experience even better. The food? Outstanding. I had the swordfish special, and it was perfectly cooked--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. I also tried a new cocktail called the Lavender Bee's Knees, and it was to die for. Light, floral, and refreshing--it might be my new favorite drink. The overall vibe of the restaurant is relaxing yet upscale, with an atmosphere that's definitely above par for the area. I also noticed the two managers, both expecting (congrats to them!), and a male maître d' in a sharp blazer who was super professional and welcoming. I had a mixed experience here, although there were several good things! The good: The food was very tasty. I ordered the salmon special (pictured here) and really enjoyed it. Everything was made well and presented nicely. The view here is gorgeous. A lovely spot to watch the boats come in or see the sunset if you have a table with a view. The not so good: The bathrooms were not as clean as they could have been (needed a wipe down and no paper towels were left.) I also waited 20 minutes after being seated for someone to come by the table and greet me or offer a drink. They seemed to not notice me for quite a while at first. The nice view from the outdoor patio did not redeem the quality of the food. We ordered a variety of appetizers and mains to share including the oysters, cornbread, tuna poke and crab meat. Oysters did not taste or look great - overall mediocre which is disappointing given how good the LI oysters can be. The cornbread had chunks of jalapeño. I am a huge fan of spicy foods and I'll generally order anything with jalapeños in it but the chopped jalapeños in the cornbread was out of place. Probably the most disappointing was the tuna poke. It had mango, strawberries in it with a thick sweet and sour sauce that overpowered the entire dish so much that I couldn't even taste the tuna, which is supposed to be the star of the show in a poke dish. If you find yourself in the Hampton Bays area, you MUST make plans to dine at Cowfish! Myself and two buddies were in town for the Ryder Cup and staying in Hampton Bays. We read the great reviews for Cowfish, and brother, we were not disappointed! Our server Jillian was absolutely wonderful, and the manager, Jason, made it a point to come and speak with us, knowing we were in town for the Ryder Cup, and made us feel so welcome. The food was outstanding....the wedge salad, clam chowder, salmon, scallop special, and banana crème pie...all phenomenal!! And you just can beat the view from the dining room. So, real talk: I had a date NOT recommend this place. And in my everlasting pettiness, I came here on a whim to prove him wrong. I was seated promptly in a lovely open room overlooking the water and ordered a sangria. Refreshingly sweet and studded with sliced grapes. Due to a hilarious misunderstanding, I did end up waiting 40 mins just to place an order for food (I was dining alone and the poor waitress thought I was waiting for someone, nursing my drink). But everyone was super kind and complementary! I proceeded to order the NOLA shrimp. And I will say, that dish won me over. Big pieces of shrimp are covered in this very tasty and savory Worcestershire reduction. The rice was amazingly soft and the bread served alongside to soak up the sauce was so perfectly toasted and buttered, I could've finished an entire loaf. (But did not because I was in a classy neighborhood). Overall, its a scenic space with good food, good drinks, and good people. We went there Sunday for lunch. They were serving brunch too but we got lunch menu. We had Braised Pork Belly and Clam Chowder for appetizers and for entree, we had feature salmon of the day (served with string beans and white rice) garnished with cherry tomatoes, olives, parsley, and capers. It was pretty good but the garnish was a little salty for my taste. The blackened fish sandwich was also pretty good and the best part of it were the fries. The fries were SO GOOD and I don't know why. For appetizers, I highly recommend the braised pork belly. It just melted in my mouth. The clam chowder wasn't the best one I had, but it was still good. We expected there to be a long wait since it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, but we got right in. I have been here a few times now for cocktails, but I was excited to finally dine here. I've always heard good reviews from friends. The hostess asked if we wanted to sit outside which we did want to so I was very happy she gave us the option! We quickly ordered and the food came out very prompt which was nice! We ordered the lighthouse sushi roll which wasn't really good. It didn't come with wasabi or ginger either which was also disappointing. We also got the cornbread skillet which was very good! Only complaint was a little piece of it wasn't cooked, it was still cornmeal powder but was still enjoyable! We got a small wedge salad which was delicious as well. For entrees I got a filet mignon with truffle butter and green beans. The steak was cooked perfectly but was overly salty. The truffle butter was most definitely not truffle butter either, definitely a garlic butter of some sorts. The green beans were phenomenal! My boyfriend got the blackened fish sandwich which he enjoyed!!! We also got a run punch to drink and it tasted as if the orange juice was sour but oh well! Took another couple to Cowfish on Thursday for their $30 Prix Fixe Dinner. Was cold out and views of the Bay were beautiful. We went up the long winding ramp to the venue. Very quaint inside, not pretentious at all but warm and comfortable. We settled in to a nice corner table with views of the water and boats in their slips. We noted that the regular prices were on the high side but this dinner was worth trying as the food was delish. I had the Pan Fried Salmon and Bon had the sesame crusted Tuna...both fresh and outstanding. The Tuna was two slabs of beautiful sushi grade tuna with a slight sear on the outside and basically raw on the inside...perfect! Our server Melissa was warm and personable making the dinner even better...For desserts we had a couple of chocolate sundays and a couple of slices of Banana Creme Pie....outstanding! We had a reservation for 16 for a birthday. We had to wait about 50 minutes for our table. The food was fabulous. Our waitress was amazing and literally did everything by herself without any help until we were almost done. It was a crowded Saturday night so we did expect to wait but not that long.
