We were headed to the Hamptons for the day to enjoy the sun after a week of rain. I looked on Yelp to find a good spot for lunch with great views and came across Cowfish. This was the perfect stop in Hamptons bays before heading to the beach. The service was extremely slow even though the restaurant was not packed but the views and the food were worth it. We asked for a table on the patio. The wind could get cold at times but it was still worth it. The views are great and peaceful. The starters were my favorite of the meal. We had the cornbread and chowder due to Yelp recommendations and I agree. The cornbread was delicious although we had to ask for extra butter (it was a bit dry without). The chowder was also delicious. It was thin compared to most but the flavor was worth it. For the entrees we had the fish sandwich (tasty), the ceasar salad with chicken (average) and the NOLA shrimp (shrimp were good but the sauce was not for me). All in all I would come back just for the apps and enjoy a drink on the patio. If you are around the area I would recommend stopping by. read more

I requested to come here for my birthday and wow we had the best experience as a large group since COVID! They do not require you do wear masks, just reccommend, and the whole atmosphere is dreamy. From the moment you walk in the back, along the water and to the inside/outside is the perfect scene. We sat at a lovely circke table for 5-6 people inside in the corner of the windows, great table! The service was lovely and tentative. STARTERS- bottles of red wine, ceasar salads, hummus plate. Entree was filet and salmon cooked perfectly. I've been wanting to come to cowfish for ages and I finally got the chance to come with three of my friends. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor space where all the tables are safely distanced. Indoors there were only a handful of tables and the fans were circulating the air. All of the staff are wearing masks. To see the menu you need to read a QR code with your phone. Personally I couldn't get the menu to load because I didn't have service but our waiter was kind enough to hand us paper copies. For starters we got chips and guacamole & the spinach artichoke dip. You could tell they use fresh ingredients. We all got the Cowfish Burger which were all cooked to our liking. The burger was delicious! You could tell it was made from high quality beef. The fries were a little bit thin to my liking but that's just preference. They weren't quite shoestring but definitely on the thinner, more petite side. Nonetheless they were crispy and perfectly salted. Ketchup was provided in small containers. I wish I took a photo of the burger but it was quite large. I was stuffed after eating it. Regardless I went ahead and got dessert. I split the cookie cake and banana cream pie. The cookie cake was hands down my favorite and one of the best cookie cakes I've ever had. The banana cream pie wasn't overly sweet which was a nice complement to the cookie cake. It was certainly refreshing though! I'd recommend it to someone who isn't a fan of sugary desserts. I would highly recommend making a reservation as this place was swamped when we got here. Especially for larger parities. There's a small waiting section by the hostess stand and a bar in the back to sit at while you wait for your table. It was a lively atmosphere with a gorgeous view of the harbor. One thing to note is that they do have valet parking in addition to self parking. The self parking lot is usually quite full though. Overall it was a fantastic choice for dinner on a summer evening! Clam chowder could have been hotter, an egg benedict dish with pulled pork over cornbread was ok , it was ordered because the delivery of fluke I was planning on getting had not yet been delivered. Other people in my party each had the burgers and they were good as were the hand cut fries. I think food may be waiting in the kitchen under the lights for more time that it should and because of this I think quality suffers a bit. Coffee was good and the banana cream pie was very rich. We sat at the bar because they were super crowded on a Saturday night in the summer and we didn't have a reservation. We ordered a local Pilsner on tap, Brussel Sprouts, oysters, and burgers. The oysters were excellent, super fresh! We really liked the Brussel sprouts, they were nice and crispy without too much oil and had a great Dijon sauce. Our burgers were really great, a nice sized patty and with fresh items on top and a good Mayo-mustard sauce. I had a baked potato instead of fries and my fiancé had fries (both solid, nothing fancy). I was out here a few extra days beyond Labor Day this summer and I had the chance to have lunch at Cowfish. Friends always said it was a great place, and now I know why. I sat in the upstairs bar and the first thing I noticed was the view, just an absolutely beautiful setting. It was early so it wasn't very busy, but it was exciting, nonetheless. After a few minutes of taking in the view, I turned my attention to the bar. The bartender was as stunning as the view. She turned to me and said, "I'll be with you in a minute sweetie". I immediately felt how warm and genuine she was. She came to our table and explained all the features that day. As she rolled down the list, I could tell she has been doing this for quite some time. She had Just the right balance of warmth and professionalism. While the featured Salmon sounded amazing, I decided on the scallops. I've had them at their sister restaurant Flora, and they were just as amazing here. Needless to say, I was thrilled that my last day here this summer ended on such a high note. Cowfish is located right on a canal in Hampton bays. This is my 2nd time here. Plenty of space outside to social distance with Adirondack chairs. Picnic tables line canal or you can dine at tables at many other locations throughout the property They have a boat that goes between their sister restaurant rhum which is fun We had the buffalo shrimp which were a great size. I had a rum punch $6 even at the table for HH. We then split the fish sandwich with shoe string fries. Perfect. Large piece of fish very flavorful. read more

I went here once years ago with my mother for my birthday after returning from college. It was the perfect ending to our day on wine tours. I came here again for my birthday 6 years later and it was just as good! I had scallops with fall flavors over risotto the first time (I remembered it 6 years later, that's how good it was) but this time I got steak with their special butters and crazy loaded baked potato. The steak was so tender and juicy, but that baked potato was wildly good! It was very quiet being 4pm on an overcast weekend in late October but it was still so beautiful and just as hospitable as I remembered. Just our experience and it was an awful one after years of patronage. We called the restaurant at 7:37pm and asked if there was availability for seating in the restaurant, the bubbly and nice person that answered the phone said "we don't take same day reservations but our waitlist is currently at zero and come on over" being responsible diners we hopped in our $40 Uber and 10 minutes later we arrived. We arrived to an unwelcoming hostess at the podium with exaggerated eye-makeup and a god awful attitude. Upon reaching her smuggish self she said "we are not taking any more wait lists for tonight, we have a two hour wait and we do not have any tables", I then asked her if there was a manager and I was for sure her token call out of the evening as she replies "your speaking with her as she pointed to herself". Being we had no car and our Uber was gone we proceeded up to the bar to weigh our options... upon reaching the bar flustered... a very nice waitress asked if we needed anything and we explained the awkward interaction, she kindly got "Jacob" the "manager". Jacob all of a sudden had a "very nice table for two, outside, and... it was ready... imagine that! Jacob asked us to follow him, he sat us, promised a smooth experience and even suggested some menu items. We explained to him we were in town for a conference, have previously dined there and rented a restaurant out last night to host clients, we also mentioned we are in the restaurant business. He kept coming over to check up on us to the point that it was annoying and interfering with our dining experience, he claimed he "took notes for staff meetings", he didn't know the restaurant that we rented last evening which was weird because it's in the same market (Calissa, which is five star Mediterranean dining) and then brought over a $50 tab from the bar, asking me to close out as I was just beginning to settle in and enjoy appetizers. We settled that check and from that point forward we felt there was a very phony, we are trying to please you... take your money and ship you out attitude. By the time we got our steak we were rushed, asked what else we needed at least 5 times in 15 minutes and Jacob came over to tell us he was leaving for the night, he asked "is there anything I can do" we said no and our bill got dropped on the table... not an "I'm sorry, coffee is on us or anything" the experience was sub par, awkward and not what it used to be... save your money, time and go enjoy a restaurant that respects and welcomes you... this isn't it! Btw... all tables and booths inside by the bar were EMPTY, there were empty tables outside and we are not some schlumps you wouldn't want at your restaurant. Very odd!!! Though I had heard of Cowfish and always wanted to try it, I never had the opportunity to go until the other day, when I found myself in the Hampton Bays area at dinnertime. The restaurant was close by and they were offering takeout orders to go. Since we were far from home, myfriend and wanted to get food that we can eat with our hands. He ordered the blackened fish sandwich and I ordered the Gibbs burger, with gruyere cheese and dijonnaise. Absolutely perfect! We ordered a pint of delicious rum punch to wash it all down and found a great spot by the Shinnecock Canal to enjoy this most delicious meal. The service we received over the phone and then picking up the food was great. I would add though,that if you don't know the place, it's kind of hard to find. You have to go through the parking lot of another restaurant, Out Of the Blue Seafood, at the corner of Montauk Highway and Canoe Place Rd.to get to Cowfish, which looks like a great place to dine. Ordered Brussel sprout app- WOW. blown away delish. 2 Fish sandwiches - both very nice size and absolutely fresh and cooked to perfection. Came with. Cole slaw- slightly mayo-y but still good. 2 kids chix and fries also very good. You can tell chicken is hand breaded and made in-house. When I think of summers on Long Island, Cowfish is idyllic. It's exactly what a glimpse of a perfect Long Island summer is to me. Close your eyes and go there with me: We're sitting in Adirondack chairs on the lush, verdant lawn overlooking the water while sipping a glass of cool, crisp white wine; a gentle warm salt breeze blowing on a late lazy afternoon in August Not only is the setting picturesque, but the food is great too. Went here a few times for weekday happy hour and some yummies to nosh on. The sushi: wonderful. The Cesar salad: my mouth just started watering. The oysters: sweet & salty. There weren't any seats left outside so we sat right at the open-air bar looking out over the water. The bartenders were attentive and super friendly, I loved the small talk and what seemed like sincere interest in our light conversation. We originally thought we were going to miss out by not sitting outside, but to be honest it was even better inside. Can't wait to go back this summer for happier hours and also try dinner! read more

Went there for the Friday night Prime Rib special and the stuffed baked potato. The corned bread appetizer was delicious and Brussels sprouts appetizer was exceptional. There both were definitely a "must have". The stuffed baked potatoes that came with the prime rib specials were a meal in itself. The horseradish condiment for the prime rib was scrumptious. However, when our prime rib dinners served, they were so rare that - they were purple. we asked for MEDIUM. We all sent them back. The waitress who was just a delight, retained our potatoes on a separate plate so we could start eating them . The prime ribs were returned and they were just fine. Moist, flavorful and tender. Perhaps it was our fault for saying "medium"... . However, really don't think so. ‍. That's why I'm giving only 3 stars!!! As for the rest of the menu, none of us really cared for any other entree that would have tickled our fancy, unfortunately. The setting, as always, was magnificent as well as the service. read more

For years this has been our favorite spot. We usually only come Sept/Oct. Another fabulous lunch outside on a beautiful fall day. Lobster stuffed mushrooms to die for. Red pepper bisq amazing! We also had the salmon special, delicious. I believe the name of my drink was the Montauk mule outstanding. Just a wonderful day/ lunch at Cowfish. Property alone is breathtaking. Love the fact you can enjoy a drink after lunch in one of their many sitting areas. If I can say just one thing. Would love if they could space the time out a bit before they serve your lunch.
