Really great spot, I came here years ago with my wife when it was another place, but wasn't as good as whales tale! Came here with my wife and father in law a few weeks ago and the food and service was solid. Came on slow day so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves, but I really enjoyed the food. Fathers in law got the poke tuna nachos and it was very good! Not the biggest tuna person but the flavor was excellent! My wife got bang bang shrimp with fries and the shrimp was very good! Shrimp was cut into small pieces and wasn't overly covered with sauce. Shrimp had great flavor and the French fries were very good. I got a steak bowl that came with rice, beans, avocado, sweet plantain, and a nice veggie slaw. The bowl was very good and the steak was pounded out and just very good. The bartender Tara & her sister were great! I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a new place to try. The food and service were great. Food: the appetizer was the chicken nachos which was decent, nothing crazy but it works well. They were actually very good tasting but I found it a little hard to eat, they kept breaking but they're nachos I guess. Onto my meal, I got the filet taco, boom shrimp taco, and the hot honey chicken. They were all so delicious and yummy, I can tell they took their time creating each taco into a masterpiece. I loved the boom shrimp the most, then the hot honey, and then the filet taco the least, but all of these were so delicious I loved it! The boom shrimp is a delicious trip into the savory tastes of shrimp and the sea. I loved the addition of tomatoes, fresh lettuce, and avocados, drizzled in ranch. The filet taco is a great feast of filet steak and crispy crunchy onions. Lastly the hot honey chicken was great with purple lettuce, corn, pickles, and more fresh delicious veggies. I loved all the tacos so much and if I come back to the area I'd definitely come back, a must go to! Service/ambiance: First off the waiters came to us quickly with a nice refreshing water pitcher with lemons. It was a nice day out but not too hot, inside was nice and cool with the ac but not too cold, a nice balance. Not too loud of a place but nice and chill with a light speaker with music playing in the background. This in my opinion is a huge upgrade to the last location in Northport, this is much bigger and it looks cleaner. Something that stood out to me was that there was no men's sign on the bathroom, but there was on the ladies. Food was very good. Varied menu, much better than past experience. Prices are typical for today's restaurants. Service was excellent despite a very busy Happy Hour). Unfortunately, the food is no longer seafood-centric and overall not nearly as good. Music was loud and the service was very lacking. Honestly, other than the frozen tasting mussels, nothing was necessarily bad. The smoky Chicken Quesadilla and Ahi Tuna Street Bowl were even decent. However, majority of everything else was just average at best and not memorable. To top it off, the prices are relatively high for what we received and the service was subpar. No one came to pour us water or take an order after we sat down for 20 minutes. Then a few different servers came by with our food. No refills on our water or check on our status. Next time we saw our server was when she came by to give us the check. Didn't even asked if we wanted dessert. Oh well, we will not be back. read more

Whales Tale is a much needed casual food spot right over the bridge near Dune road where the old 78 Fosters used to be. They have a killer happy hour from 3-6 during the week where pretty much every drink is heavily discounted, plus a Taco Tuesday menu for some cheap tacos. I'd come in for happy hour a few weeks ago and this time wanted to have some of the food. We kicked things off with a dozen oysters which were incredibly fresh and delicious, and an order of queso dip that was just the right amount of spicy, served with plenty of chips for the whole table. The tacos were just alright -- for 8-9 bucks each they are pretty big, but none of the ones we got (cauliflower, spare rib, chicken and salmon poke). Service was friendly and as prompt as they could be at the height of the Friday dinner rush. There was also live music which really added to the ambiance of this place. It's located on the canal with outdoor tables on the patio, but even some of the indoor tables get a nice view of the sunset and water depending on where you're sitting. They have a deal going where if you post Whales Tale and tag them on Instagram they'll give you 10% off your bill which was a decent discount since there were four of us here eating and drinking. read more

Excited to see a place that will last in this spot! The outdoor deck is nicely set-up. Inside they have created a bright, open and airy space that makes you feel like you are outside. There is a cute beer garden area with cornhole and a tv outside under the deck. Now to the food- tacos are superb. Big shoutout to the Bacon Cheeseburger Taco. The Bang Shrimp Taco was ok, but overloaded with lettuce and pico so you couldn't really taste the shrimp. We also really enjoyed the BBQ Chicken quesadilla. Big kudos to Whales Tale for welcoming my lil' puppy... something another place in the area didn't allow. (Lookin' at you, John Scott's.) Bang Bang Shrimp: Absolutely outstanding. Spicy, crispy, saucy, and perfectly prepared--no tails, just flavor. We loved it so much we ordered a second to-go. One of the best shrimp dishes we've had, hands down. Street Bowl (Unofficially called "Fiesta Bowl"): A hearty bowl with steak, plantains, and a Mexican-style cheese blend. While the concept was solid, the cheese fell a little short. Swapping in Oaxaca or queso fresco (both already on the menu) could take it to the next level. Mussels: This was my first time trying mussels, and they were a game-changer. The broth was incredibly flavorful and served with warm pita bread. The portion size was generous--easily 20+ mussels served in oversized square bowls. We all loved them and would order again without hesitation. Fries: Perfectly crispy and delicious. Definitely worth adding to your order. Elote con Queso: This was a cheesy dip with crispy tostadas rather than the traditional street corn dish we thought it was going to be. Tasty for what it was, though a bit different than what we expected. Dragon Bowl with Poke Salmon protein: I customized this with quinoa, crispy onions, and cilantro (ingredients already on the menu elsewhere), and it turned out fantastic. As someone who is vegetarian, I really appreciated how fresh and clean the bowl tasted. My only suggestion? Please offer brown rice as a substitute for white rice. It's a healthier option that many guests--myself included--would love to see. Drinks: There's a wide range of draft and bottled beer options not listed online, so rest assured you'll have plenty to choose from. We even received a complimentary beer due to a small mix-up with our order. Shoutout to Ann, Ann, and Olivia-with-an-A for the top-tier service! Service & Atmosphere: The staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel truly welcome. The outdoor patio has a relaxed and inviting vibe, perfect for groups or a casual date night. Restrooms: Single-occupancy, so be prepared to wait during busy hours. Additional Tips: If you're dining outdoors, bring an extra layer or two--it gets chilly in the evening, and there were no outdoor heaters during our visit. We would have stayed longer but just got too cold. Also, a heads-up: gas prices in Hampton Bays are steep, so consider fueling up before you arrive. Shared dinner here with family and it was a nice time! Great seating options on the deck or inside and a standard selection of bar food with a seafood emphasis. The tacos, nachos, and burger were all good! Nothing too memorable but not bad either! A hidden gem for regular people in Hampton Bays in a sea of either terrible resrurants that are over priced or fancy resturants that have put priced most locals . I had the fried fish taco and the tuna taco . Both were very good amd great sized portions . Service was fantastic and its still got those water vibes . read more

We ate there last night after a long bike ride. The food was fresh, plentiful and very well prepared. Our waitress Leanne was efficient and entertaining. I've been a few times to this place but the front area only after the beach it's a great stop off to have a beer and some snacks but came to the restaurant at the back which I've wanted to try, the place is really bright and modern and very clean, we started with the wings which were great and had a phenomenal burger with fries, the food comes out fresh and hot, the bartenders were great and I'm hoping they play the World Cup so I'll go even more! So refreshing to have a place like this in Hampton bays, you won't be disappointed read more

This place was very disappointing. The food was below average at best. My tacos had no taste. I had the Maui chicken taco and the tuna taco. The wings we ordered were so over sauced. The worst part of the experience was the woman's bathroom. It was so dirty, the garbage can was so full that the stuff in it was falling all over the floor.
