I grew up in Schaumburg and have fond memories of the original Country Donuts. (Now it's County Donuts.) This one isn't the same or my taste buds have changed. I like the bagels and chili. But the donuts are dry to me. The cider donuts disappoint compared to all the local pumpkin farms. Practically all the donuts are cake, and dry cake at that. I didn't like the glazed, instead I would recommend a long John. The chocolate glazed and frosted are okay, but truthfully, I'd rather get dunkin. The special of 2+ dozen at $5.99 is a great deal. I just think my tastebuds prefer something different. read more

I went to the drive through and these folks gave me the wrong type of doughnuts. I made a circle and came right back to let her know she has given me the wrong type. She said they couldn't take the others back (well obviously you can't resell them, but I wanted to prove that I hadn't eaten them). She required me to pay AGAIN. Every time I go and order donuts I get "sorry we are out of those". How are you out of donuts that are on your menu. 7pm, 8pm, etc. If you are 24 hours you need to have inventory. When you go to McDonald's and order a cheeseburger they don't tell you sorry we are out. Do better or just close at noon if you can't produce what is on your menu. Not sure what all the great reviews are for as I just had a bad experience and was let down. This review is for the Elgin location so who knows what the other is like. I was initially encouraged by the good reviews and the large line when I arrived. I am from out of town and drove about 20 min to get here. Upon arriving the line was long, about a 12 min wait which I had no problem with. I ordered a dozen donuts and left, excited. On the way home I tried the vanilla long John and the donut was dry and clearly not fresh, which I found odd given the amount of business they had. I continued eating and then found a seven inch long black hair pull out of the vanilla. Gross. When I got home I cut some of the others open and they too were all dry and not fresh made. I can't understand it. Between the nasty hair and poor quality I can't recommend this place. The only reason for the two stars is that the service was friendly and efficient. read more

Doughnuts were really soft and good. They had a nice variety. My only problem is that it was my first time so I wanted to see what all different doughnuts they had. I felt rushed from the time I walked through the door. I don't like being rushed she kept asking me what I wanted and basically forced me to hurry up and pick so I feel like I still don't kno which doughnuts they had I picked the regular chocolate, powder, and glazed. I will return but next time I expect better customer service. I also had children with me who we all know take a while to make their Decision and she seemed to be irritated Witt my son who took longer than the rest to pick out his doughnut. read more

Passed this place a few times a week, and finally caved and went in. It was awesome seeing the staff making the donuts for the evening shift, and they were also putting out fresh donuts when we arrived. It smells of coffee and sweetness in the air, and we knew we'd be in for a delightful treat. Went and used a coupon that we found online to get a dozen donuts for $7. We tried their Bavarian cream (aka Boston cream donut for you New Englanders) and it was good. Light and fluffy inside, sweet chocolate frosting and a delightful custard. But them we tried the apple cider glazed donut (amazing) and their butter crunch flavor, and we're blown away. Sorry Dunks/Honey Dew donuts, I've found a new kind of donut to order. I used to ONLY want donuts from Dunkin in the past. And then this Country Donuts location opened right down the street from us. Now, our first time in was more of a convenience thing. But we immediately became hooked and I haven't had a Dunkin donut in FOREVER. We've grabbed donuts here often. And keep your eyes out on your money mailer coupon envelopes and such -- they often have coupons so you can get your delicious treats and save yourself some dough. Our favorites are the chocolate iced bavarian cream. Absolutely TO DIE FOR. Oh, Country Donuts, I am so glad you are in the exact opposite direction on Lake Street I need to drive to work. Because if you were on my daily route I'd be having a donut for breakfast every day and thus weigh fifty pounds more. We have sampled just about all their donuts and I have not been disappointed by a one. My favorites are the classic Honeydipped (you mere mortals may refer to this as a Plain Glazed), the Sour Cream cake donut, the Red Velvet cake donut and, if I'm feeling extra naughty, the Toasted Coconut raised donut (heated just a bit for extra to-die-for-ness). We also recently popped in for a light lunch of soup, bagel and a donut, of course. I had the Italian Wedding Soup and hubby had the Chili, both quite delicious. The bagels are good, too. Not a huge variety but then again they aren't called Country Bagels, so get over it. And they aren't kidding when they say they have the best coffee. I'll take them over Dunkin' any day. read more

I'm so happy that this place is so close to the house! Country Donuts is our donut breakfast go-to and they have the best donuts in the area, hands-down! I have yet to be disappointed by a single donut and each one is amazing. I might be pretty plain-Jane about it, but my favorites are the sugar raised and honey dipped. Both SO good. The seasonal apple cider and pumpkin and great options too. The only other thing I've ordered here besides donuts is the coffee. Wow I haven't had these since they moved out of Schaumburg, I happened to drive by on the way to a clients and picked up a dozen on the way home. I love yeast donuts over cake donuts but I got a variety of them to share with the family and they were all great! I even loved that even though they sat a few days since we were all gone a lot over the weekend, they did not have the frosting melt too badly. They only dribbled a bit, unlike some donuts where they just ooze off and it's a nasty lump of sugar on the box. It's 7.25 for a dozen. They also seemed to have pumpkin cider or something but I didn't grab any. The service at the counter was also great and they were very nice :) read more

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the dough it's here. I came mid morning, about 11:30 and some were still being made fresh. The pumpkin flavored was particularly good, and my reason for stopping in. It was flavorful without being overwhelming, and still warm. The girl at the counter was a bit scatter brained but she was young and possibly new so no harm done.
