A cozy little bakery tucked into a one way street in downtown Palatine. They have a small but relaxing interior that seats about 8 to 10 people if you want to order coffee and a muffin. Everything is homemade by the owner so it's very fresh.. I purchased a dozen cookies of various kinds on a Saturday morning. My family liked the pecan shortbread and peanut butter kiss cookies best. I wish they had banana or blueberry breads to stop in and purchase. These can be ordered ahead of time though. I called ahead to order a variety and they said they could frost up fresh cupcakes in the shop if I wanted more than one kind of cupcake. The girl at the front of the shop was super helpful and sweet and I ended up getting a good assortment of cupcakes plus some very pretty decorative cookies on the side. I stopped by on a sunny Sunday afternoon after searching Yelp for bakeries in the area since I planned to visit a nearby local coffeehouse. Thank you to my Yelp friend Sherwin C. for his lovely review & photos since they motivated me to check out Sweet C's. And I'm glad I did because I've discovered a lovely local spot for cookies! The shop is somewhat small and tucked between two others on Bothwell Street across from the train tracks. The owner greeted me as soon as I walked in. She apologized for the limited selection. I told her not to worry about it, since I saw plenty of viable options. She asked me if I was looking for a gift for someone. Ha ha! That someone is my sweet loving self! ;-p I asked her what she would recommend. She suggested the peanut butter kiss cookies, oatmeal cherry cookies and the brownie. As of late, I haven't been into super rich chocolaty treats so I mentally crossed the brownie off that list. My eyes immediately gravitated toward the toffee shortbread. I asked her how she felt about that one. She said it's good, but she much prefers rich and chocolaty items, hence her suggestion of the brownie. She offered me a freshly baked toffee shortbread that just came out of the oven. And, I was instantly sold. I loved the buttery shortbread mixed with generous pieces of toffee. I shared the cookie (yes, shocking, I know) with my fiance and he enjoyed it as well. I ended up buying two packages of cookies - the toffee shortbread cookies and the oatmeal cherry. The oatmeal cherry tasted great as well. I liked the texture - soft with a bit of chew and crisp. Again, like with the shortbread, you get a generous amount of cherries in your cookies. Total with tax for 12 cookies was $9.69, which isn't bad at all, saying that they are locally made. The owner gave me her card in case I was interested in having her bake some goodies for a special occasion. She also mentioned that Sweet C's is at local farmers markets too, so I made a note to check that out. Overall, I am impressed with these cookies and cannot wait to sample more of their offerings. If I could give zero stars I would...Sweet C's really dropped the ball on my son's 1st Birthday cake. The birthday cake is a essential piece of a 1 year olds birthday party, so needless to say when I picked up a cake that is not at all what I asked for, and quite frankly looked like garbage, I was extremely disappointed. I could not believe the cake that was given to me. It was a blue cake with 'Happy Birthday Sonny" scribbled across the top of the cake, not centered, not done neatly or nicely. I had ordered the cake about a week and a half in advance; I personally went into the bakery and spoke with the owner. I explained what I wanted...I was to have a 12" round cake with sea blue icing and a dark blue border with "Happy Birthday Sonny" going around the side of the cake, in red...I was very specific when I stated I wanted to writing on the side of the cake, that's because I had a cake topper. I showed the cake topper to the owner, I asked if she wanted me to send her a picture so she could match it, she told me she did not need a picture she would remember... apparently she did not remember, even after I spoke with her face to face for at least 15 minutes about what we were doing. I paid upfront for this cake and a smash cake, and I even purchased some cupcakes when I was in the store placing the order; I spent a good amount of money in this bakery and now I was stuck with this awful cake that was embarrassing to present my guests so how a bakery could present it to a customer is beyond me. So I asked that they fix it. I asked that they scrape the writing off the top and put it around the side and I would just put my cake topper on and it would work, then the owner comes up and proceeded to basically call me a liar and said she never agreed to do this, they couldn't write on the side of the cake anyway because it would fit. What?! I asked them to just scrape the top off then because I did not want writing on the top, they asked me to come back in 30 minutes. 30 minutes later I got a cake that had the writing on the side, in Christmas colors, and not wrapped around the cake like I had originally asked for, but sloppily done on the side after they told me they couldn't do it anyway so I said just take it off the top! Whatever... I thanked them and took my cake because I had a party to throw, it worked once I threw the candle and topper on.... but the added stress and running around was not needed on a special day. I spent a lot of money on the cake, it should have looked A LOT nicer than it did. For a 1st Birthday, c'mon, it can't be the first cake you do!! Very disappointing. The cake I received is NOT what was ordered. If you wrote out the ticket wrong, that is on you. You told me you were going to personally decorate this cake and that sometimes when you're doing a cake your creativity flares and you were exited about doing it. When I came to get the cake I was told someone by the name of Stephanie did the cake. Regardless of what the miscommunication was, the cake received is not the cake that was ordered or paid for and looked like garbage. Any other bakery would put a little more effort into a cake for a ONE YEAR OLD BIRTHDAY. A little more effort to create a nicer looking cake is all it would have taken. You were too worried about hometown fest you shouldn't have taken on more than you can handle. This was not my fault and I was never told I was signing a "contract" you're shady business practices and poor customer service will put you out of business soon enough. read more

So disappointed! This place is a close walk in a cute little spot. Unfortunately that cuteness is halted by the rude and cruel service. Stopped in for a sweet treat and left feeling so awful. We were (for lack of a better word) greeted by a very rude lady that made us feel as we were inconveniencing her just by walking in. That actually was my favorite part as it was the right amount of chocolateness and not overall sweet like many other icings. It really complimented the cake. The raspberry filling seemed fresh and flavorful. One small complaint was that the filling was slightly too sweet for my liking, but I prefer my sweets to be in the less sweet which is a personal preference. It was not overall sweet.
