I would avoid this establishment. I called on 1/27 at 12:40 PM to order vegan cupcakes for my son's birthday. The employee, Tim, told me they had 6 vanilla and 6 chocolate vegan cupcakes available. I requested 4 chocolate cupcakes, and he said I would need to prepay and that they would be ready in 15 minutes. I was surprised they could be prepared that quickly, but went along with it. We picked them up about 30 minutes later and brought them home. That evening, my son tried one and it was extremely hard, with grainy frosting. Overall, the cupcake tasted terrible. We didn't eat the remaining three and left them in the box. The next day, I returned to the shop to share my concerns and was told Tim would call me back. He did call and said they had tried a cupcake and felt it tasted fine. He also told me that I may not know what vegan cupcakes taste like. I didn't argue, but I've had plenty of vegan desserts before, and they've never been this inedible. He then explained that the batter used was leftover from a cake made a week earlier and that it's common practice for them to freeze batter and make cupcakes later. I was surprised to hear this. More disappointing was that there was no attempt to make things right or offer any solution--only to explain why they wouldn't provide a refund. I told him that was fine, but that I wouldn't be returning or recommending their shop and would be sharing my experience. If you're looking for vegan options or any dessert options and decent customer service, there are plenty of other places in the area. I'd recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Overall very pleased with the cake and the decorations. The only reason I'm docking a star is because the bottom layer of cake (I ordered a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream) is clearly burnt. The top layer of cake was perfection and tasted incredible when paired with the sweet buttercream but the bottom cake was much more dry and less flavorful due to the over cooking. Recently, I was hosting a bridal shower for my daughter. We only wanted cake pops, not a huge cake. I brought in a color sample for our theme of the shower. I drive past this place every single day on my way to work. There is a big banner that says "CUPCAKES" right near the road but a little birdie told me its temporary and will be taken down soon so you'll have to seek her out on your own. The shop is quite set back from the road at the end of a small strip mall on the South side of Wise road near the Speedway West of Roselle Road. It doesn't look like much from the outside but, the best things come in small packages and if there is anything that Yelp has taught me, it's not to judge a book by its cover. I'm home recovering from surgery right now so leaving the house is pretty much not an option at the moment but that will not stop me from eating a cupcake! My wonderful sister finally had a break in get crazy week to come visit her baby sister last night and apparently stopped here to pick up some treats for us on her way over yesterday. She brought some cupcakes to share along with a large chocolate chip cookie that she was kind enough to split with me. It was like she read my mind....I was craving chocolate chip cookies this week. I haven't had much of an appetite at all for the past week and have even lost a couple pounds because I really haven't been eating much but I don't care if I'm dying, you put a chocolate chip cookie in front of me, I'm definitely gonna take a bite! The cookie was soft, delicious, fresh and had the perfect amount of chocolate chips. There seemed to be at least one in every single bite! I asked her if she had any more and sadly, she only bought the one, but now I know where to go for my CCC fix! She picked up a half dozen cupcakes. She allowed me to pick two and we split them so we could taste each. The chocolate peanut butter cupcake was fantastic. The cake was moist and the frosting was something I could eat with a spoon....or my finger if no one was looking. ;) We also split the chocolate "Twinkie" cupcake which had a vanilla icing with sugar sprinkles on top and a similar (possibly the same) cake but this one was filled with a yummy cream. Jen ran through the pricing for me and I was happily surprised to hear her pricing is the best I've heard of in the area. A lot of places charge upwards of $3 a cupcake and this place is $1.50 for some and up to $2 each. Wow! Well done with your pricing! It's a shame they aren't open on my way to work in the morning but I hear they may be expanding their hours soon, so ill have to keep an ear out. LOVE this place!!! This is a delayed review, forgive me we have a new human in the house. I have had a few cakes from here, but my all time favorite was my baby shower cake!!! Not only was it gorgeous and perfect for the theme, it was also delicious!!! The custom baby shoes on top were totally hand crafted and so beautiful I saved them (still looking great six months later! They are in my cabinet. Headed westbound on Wise Road in the drizzling rain, I see a banner for cupcakes. I'm in the right hand lane so there's no way that I am going to make it into their driveway on the south side of the street. I travel a bit further, turn that car around and make my way back to check out what's going on beyond that temporary banner. 5:32pm. I pull up to the storefront and see that the OPEN sign is still showing in the window even though the other sign says that they close at 5:30pm. The lights are on so I walk up to the door and give it a pull. It opens and I am promptly greeted by a friendly business owner. Woo hoo!! Maybe she will still sell me some cupcakes? I actually walked in while she was hard at work. It appeared she was working on a custom cake, but I didn't peek around through that door too much. What I did notice was a lovely display, up close & personal with a wide variety of cupcakes. Cindy took the time to describe and in a few cases to re-describe all of the cupcakes available. I learned about her custom cakes, cookies, individual party favors and so on and so on. I don't think there's too much in the world of flour & sugar that she isn't doing! I ended up choosing two large cookies, some chocolate/toffee dipped pretzels and six cupcakes. Cindy packed up a lemon cupcake for me to try as well on the house. She won me over right there. I think it's a great idea to broaden your customers' horizons...give them something that they don't normally try. It's a way to make me a devoted customer. Especially if that unique item is good. My favorite local carryout place has been doing that with me for over a year. They give me reasons to go back and things to talk about. Look - I'm here telling all of you to try Sweet Occasions. Wanna know why? We chatted and I learned that Sweet Occasions has only been open since the end of May 2013. Cindy has spent years practicing her art for others. She's not new to the circle of custom cakery. And, it's obvious in the quality of her work. Her husband and son built out the front of her store. I'd call it all a labor of love. I was very impressed. Want to be even more impressed? Check out the prices of this wide variety of cupcakes. Running from $1.50 to $2.50 with the vast majority at the $2.00 price point. Affordable! But are they any good? I split the large chocolate chip cookie with my sister. It was really good. Soft with just the right amount of chocolate chips. Later, we split two cupcakes so we could try two flavors and only consume one cupcake each. The peanut butter frosting was extremely tasty. And the cupcake itself was moist. The filled cupcake was just as good. The second one may have been a bit too sweet for me in the frosting department, but I'm not complaining. What do I think cake frosting is made of? Savory items? Not exactly. ;-) Okay, so here's the cliff notes: -Look carefully for this storefront. It's set back off the road a bit and the temporary banner will be gone soon. It's worth finding. -Try a few different things. Mainly because I want her to be successful and increased sales means a successful, growing business. -Try the cookies. I needed to find a place to order a cake and some cupcakes for my friend's bridal shower. I had never heard of this place, as I am used to ordering from Jarosch or Deerfields. I was a little nervous as I wouldn't be able to taste the cake beforehand, but I was very satisfied with my experience! :) Ordering the cake was so easy! I called the number, talked to the lady a bit on what I wanted and then was told to text a picture of the cake design I wanted and the exact order for the cupcakes. It was so easy to place the order and they did a great job of re-creating the design I had sent it. My order was ready on time and I picked it up and was on my way within 5 minutes. I prepaid when I placed the order, so nothing needed to be done when I went to pick it up! I do wish they put a very more flowers on the top of the cake it make it looked a bit fuller (see picture). We needed 3 cakes (smash cake, main 1st bday cake and my 3yo's cake) for a 1st and 3rd birthday party for my kids in Schaumburg for our extended family but we live in California so my friend found this place on Yelp for me. Cindy was so accessible via email and met with me when I arrived to finalize details. Also had her make sugar cookies as favors. They only do fondant cookies vs Royal icing in case that matters to you. They turned out so great too. And she bagged and tagged them for me too. I just had to provide the labels and ribbon I wanted them to use. Taste: everyone loved the cakes. They were moist and fillings/frosting were not overly sweet. Dark chocolate was my favorite. Luscious lemon flavored cake topped with a dollop of smooth and silky frosting and a little sprinkle of sugar on top. 5 stars. Day 2: Blueberry. Solid choice but I won't be getting it again. Frosting is delicious but the cake wasn't that much of a departure from a muffin. 3 1/2 stars. Be warned these cupcakes are addicting.
