Depending on what you're looking for it's best to go in the morning when the pastries are fresher. Going late afternoon or evening means the pastries are just sitting for time on in and it's still good but the eat while in the car sequence goes away. The staff have been helpful when locating items, feel free so speak Spanish (even if you know a little bit- it helps with practicing). read more

Nice little bakery with everything you want from a panderia! I understand many people left reviews about the cakes not being up to par and I can't review tres leches or cakes as I've not tried them. As for the baked goods those are nice. The place is clean and tidy. The concha's and muffins were a little dry but tasted good with coffee. This is a good place if you want a change of pace from donuts, danish and streusels. They featured a nice variety of cookies, cakes and a bread too. Staff was friendly and courteous. My one tip would be if you're not sure about buying something there, ask them when that specific item was made? That could help avoid being disappointed and your money down the drain due to inferior product. I gave 3 stars as I've had better from other bakeries in other cities. read more

Most of the cashiers are rude and doesn't listen to what you ask. Some of the prices are ok but some are high. If you change your mind on the item after finding out the price, they get very upset. It was pouring outside today morning and after bagging 4 items in paper bag, she didn't want to put inside plastic bag like the customers in front of me. I had to ask and she seem not happy and no receipt so I asked for one. She was upset and opened up the paperbag and took them out counting and while they were moved, the pastries were damaged. They have bad attitudes and no customer service. The customer infront was same too. She looked at me and shaked her head as cashier just completely ignored what customer said. I will not return after today. This was my 2nd time trying and first time wasn't great too. read more

Horrible service. If you're trying to get a cake, make sure they actually listen to what you're requesting. I bought a cake for a bday party and they gave me a SHITTY HALF DONE CAKE !! I been coming here for a couple years and I'm happy it's been going good for them. They have expanded there building which has more selections of bread and cakes and other great Mexican bakery selections. The bolillo is great here but you have to make it on time if not it gone. There elote muffins are very good, concha's you can't go wrong with them especially the ones that have sugar on top of them here are the best from any bakery near by. I love coming here, I go crazy filling up trays with bread. The service is good especially when the older lady is around it just makes it feel good to be in a Bakery. read more

First impression: I walked in about an hour after opening and it was warm and cozy inside with freshly baked trays of baked goods. There was a lot of variety of different sweet breads and sweets but they didn't have any labels so I don't know the names of what I got lol. Also, the ladies were so nice and friendly! Even in my broken Spanish HAHA I recommend checking out this authentic Spanish bakery!! Oh and I got 3 things and the total was only $3.65! read more

I've been eating Pan Mexicano since I was a child. I'm old now and I think I know tasty Pan. I only bought one Pan and 2 cookies. The Pan was flat tasting and was dry...maybe out too many days. One cookie I bought was coconut flavor which tasted like coconut. The other pineapple flavor, which didn't taste like pineapple. I don't speak Spanish, so they had to bring one of the bakers to the front to translate. She was nice and helpful. The 2 stars are for her. Oh they have cute Día de Los Muertos dolls and I would have bought one, but they were $45. Oh they ad 3.5% when using credit card. Re: the cookies they weren't all that freshly baked yesterday when I bought them and today they are hard and crumbly. read more

It's definitely NOT what it used to be. Prices are way up there and on top of that you'll pay 4% fee for using debit or credit card Quality has declined. I was only able to buy 3 conchas because most of them were overcooked/a little burnt. This place is dirty and unorganized as well...it's a shame. read more

If someone had asked me a year ago, I would have given this bakery five stars, but not now. Something has changed. Maybe new ownership? The bread is not the same. My family and I visited there recently and were so disappointed, as this had been our go-to spot. Everything is moved around, different people are working the registers, and the pan dulce is all over the place. My favorite, an elote muffin, which traditionally comes wrapped in a corn husk, was a nightmare to eat and was cloyingly sweet, which overpowered the usual earthy corn essence. The concha lost its traditional sweet buttery masa topping before we even got home, and by the time we cut it in half, not one iota of topping remained. The empanadas, which just donned an egg wash topping before, are now bathed in sugar; which again takes away from the fruit-filling flavors and makes them too sweet to eat. It was so hot and humid inside the bakery, we also worried about the safety of some of the breads, like if the cream fillings were going to be okay to eat, so we passed on those. The staff also made a rude comment, assuming we were not Latinos, and when we spoke Spanish, acted surprised that tall, light-skinned individuals in the U.S. could be of Hispanic descent - and eat pan dulce! So, not only was the store unorganized, unbearably hot and humid, the service was not as it had been for years prior, and the bread was considerably less stellar than what we were used to enjoying on previous visits. For us, it is time to find a new panadería. So disappointed and sad - it was the ideal location. Something has definitely changed. read more

If you know what conchas are and you love them, come and get them here. They make great conchas. I always ask where are the freshly baked ones and those are the ones I get because they last longer and taste awesome. I have tried different kinds of mexican bread at this bakery that would remind me of my childhood and, in my opinion, they make good bread. Every time I go they are all very friendly. Since I speak both English and Spanish I have no trouble communicating with them. Prices are also very good. read more

Mexican bakeries. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The BEST kind of bakeries (okay, Asian bakeries too. Duh.) However, not all Mexican bakeries are created equal. This was my first time at Estrella Bakery, as I'd only stumbled upon it while on my way to to dinner at a place just down the strip mall from here. The windows were almost totally blocked with shades, making it hard to tell if they were open or not. There weren't any hours posted, but there was a sign in the window that said, "Abierto," which I had to be told means 'open' because I took French and German in jr high and high school, because, ya know, those come in handy so often in my everyday life. So we went in. And it was glorious! As it is every time I'm in a Mexican bakery. What to choose, what to choose... The selection here definitely looked a bit beat up and they didn't have the same selection as a lot of other bakeries I've come to frequent. It was, however, a Sunday over a holiday weekend and nearing into the the evening, so I can't fault the goods for not being at their freshest. We ended up getting 4 different pastries. A big sweet bread loaf with a criss-cross design on it, a bun filled with sweet potato (which was really good, but it was basically a hot pocket stuffed with baby food, which I can be okay with), the crumble cake with a little chocolate bit on top, and this rectangular bread that looked like it'd be stuffed with some kind of filling, but was just more sweet bread. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of variety (where were all the cheese pastries!?) but also a little taken aback with the number of little gnats I saw flying around. I know it's summer, but that's not something you want to see. Pulling the sliding plastic doors to see a gnat come off the exact pastry I was looking to grab with handy tongs is undoubtedly once of the saddest feelings ever... not one that held me back from still buying and eating that pastry, but still, it dampened the mood. I thought the pastries we'd gotten were all okay. The sweet potato/Hot Pocket/Baby food bun was by far the best, the rest were a little too dry, but I'd for sure come back on a regular non-holiday day to try again... plus, they were pretty darn cheap. Also, on our visit, the woman working the counter did not speak a lick of English, so if you appear to not be fluent in Spanish, don't be surprised if she politely points to the register with your total instead of saying it aloud. read more

Let me give you the three reasons I went into Estrella Bakery this past Saturday morning: 1) There's a simple sign above the shop that reads "BAKERY." 2) My 3 year old just got a haircut and sat still the entire time. 3) It was open. So, it doesn't take much, folks. That being said, Estrella may not be much to look at from the outside, but when you make your way inside, the plexiglass cases and metal racks are filled to the brim with all sorts of cookies, pastries and breads. Nothing is marked - as in you really don't know exactly what you're purchasing or how much it will cost. The folks who were working here when I visited also didn't seem to speak much English, so be prepared to read the register and cobble together a bit of espanol if you can. I asked the woman running back and forth from the back room to the register for a bag to snag some cookies and 2 minutes later I walked out with seven cookies for $2.92. Fine by me! The cookies were fresh and tasty just as cookies should be. They weren't anything out of this world, but in terms of value, Estrella is pretty great. Next time (post haircut) I want to grab a croissant or two. read more

So I like to stop by here sometimes because I like supporting small shops and I thought some of the stuff here is really good, but I've noticed that recently the prices got higher (which I can understand, kinda not really) and the quality also got worse. They use artificial flavors in everything which I overlooked for years, but now they're starting to be stingy with ingredients. I get that they might want to be saving money, but this is too much. I always get the cream cheese danish, jalapeño cheese bread,, slices of tres leches cake, and a bunch of other things. I used to be able to walk out with a bag full of stuff for like $20 and now $20 only buys a couple things. Ridiculous. I just went a couple days ago and was very disappointed. Everything was just bread bread bread and nothing else. Barely any cream cheese in any of the breads and the tres leches cake was made with STALE, old cake. It was disgusting. I bought 2 slices and had to throw out both with only a few bites eaten out of ONE of them. I used to love coming here, but I guess I have to find a different mexican bakery now. So sad. read more

More traditional mexican pastries are also some of the best that I have had outside of Mexico. Support this local business so that it stays around. The owner works his tail off and it shows. Nice small bakery. When first discovered it (about 3 yrs ago) the prices were very fair and the quality was good on the pastries and cookies. Been absent for a period of time. Recently went back. Its changed, quality is not what it was (varies from day to day) and pricing does not seem to be consistent either Use to arrive to hear the bakers in the back working and singing. Quite amusing. I come here with my wife regularly. We generally just pick up their giant croissants that my wife loves. Things aren't openly priced, but everything is inexpensive and fresh.
