Cupcake Smash
Clara K.

I absolutely love the cupcake smash concept- being able to put ice cream and cupcake into a concoction. However, the cupcakes were too soft and crumbly in my opinion- I like the denser Molly's version. I liked the cream cheese icing on my peanut butter chocolate cupcake though and loved the pumpkin ice cream and snickers ice cream. Would definitely come back for the ice creams and to try other flavor cupcakes!

I had a sweet tooth and was craving cupcakes. Found this gem on Yelp and was not disappointed! As Soon as I walked in I was greeted with a smile. I forgot the team members name although she was friendly, patient and offered the benefits and features of Smallcakes. The seating area was clean, windows & doors spotless. One bite of my sweetness and I was in love! OOOOMMGGEEE deeeelish. Thanks smallcakes for satisfying my sweet tooth

Smallcakes is a cute little spot. They offer cupcakes and ice cream. The cupcakes look really cute - but just taste ok. I ordered the red velvet cupcake and would much rather spend my money at Nothing Bundt Cakes. For maybe $1.00 more - you get a much larger portion and definitely a better tasting cake. I also requested a taste test of three different flavors of ice cream before settling on the cookie dough. Again, it was just ok. I actually prefer the cookie dough ice cream from Baskin-Robbins. The customer service is good, the place is nice and clean and the deserts are mediocre. I wouldn't necessarily return, but it was worth a try.

After buying very expensive premium cupcakes in the city (which weren't even that big, or even executed perfectly), I was glad to find Smallcakes in South Barrington which provides generously sized premium cupcakes at only a fraction of the price. This shop is beautifully decorated from wall to wall, display case to display case with plenty of delicious, artistically crafted cupcakes. They are definitely not cheap, but are actually pretty low priced for items of this quality (consider a small Magnolia cupcake runs you $5.50, or a scoop of Oberweis ice cream $3.29, or one of Firecakes or Stan's Donuts is about $3). Service is quick, friendly, and the staff is knowledgeable about the product. On this visit, I tried 3 items: Vanilla bean ice cream - Extremely creamy, with a nice bright vanilla bean flavor. There's an interesting almost gummy texture to it, which I wasn't certain if I was a huge fan of -- almost like gelato but even thicker. Still, this was quite enjoyable with the cupcakes. Hot fudge sundae cupcake - Very moist chocolate cupcake with a buttery butter cream frosting on top (although this very impressively fooled me by looking exactly like a topping of fresh whipped cream). High quality nuts added a good savory aspect and a bit of texture contrast. Pink vanilla cupcake - Insanely buttery cake topped with an insanely buttery, yet fluffy cloud of frosting. The pink sugar added a nice crunchy element to this cupcake. I'm not entirely certain of what was in the pink buttercream, but it was delicious. Overall, pleasant experience with beautiful food (although it was slightly on the sweet side for me, but I can understand how this would appeal to a wide audience).

One of the best cupcake bakeries in the suburbs. The cakes are always moist and the frosting is never overly sweet. Love to come here for birthdays. The prices are very reasonable at $3.75-$4 a cupcake. I definitely recommend the red velvet cupcakes. It's by far my favorite. Oh and the ice cream was very good!!!! It was my first time ordering it. Tried the strawberry and it was so delicious. I'm craving it now

Hot Fudge Sundae Cupcake, Cookies n Cream, Carrot Cake Cupcake, Cinnamon Roll

Came here about 2 weeks ago with my sisters because we had heard good things about this place. I thought it was going to be just cupcakes but they also had ice cream, a cupcake shake and some filled cookies. We ended up getting a scoop of the peanut butter and chocolate ice cream as well as 4 cupcakes. The ice cream was very tasty but I didn't really enjoy the consistency. It was very thick and almost stretchy? Not sure but we kept eating it because the flavor was nice I just wish it was more creamy and smooth than thick. As for the cupcakes we got: Cookies and cream, Cinnamon roll (Special at the time), Hot fudge sundae and Carrot cake All the cupcakes were very moist and fluffy. The flavors are exactly what you would imagine to be based on the name. The only reasons why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 were due to the consistency of the ice cream and I just wished the cupcake flavors/options were a little but more creative. Overall we enjoyed them and they made a very good dessert.

My first taste of Smallcakes was when I was offered a choice out of a big box of cupcakes for my (2016) birthday at work. I picked one that looked like a Hostess cupcake -- chocolate with that swirly white frosting over the fudgey icing. It was delicious -- so moist (ick, did I seriously just type that word ..... blech) and a delicious creamy filling. My second taste - was for my next (2017) birthday at work. This time I selected a cupcake that had a caramel-y colored frosting with a dash of salt and a pretzel stuck in the top. Again .... moist cake, great flavor. After that, I figured I had to try more. So I've popped in a few times since then. Mostly, they keep sucking me in by posting photos of these delicious creatures on facebook. Seriously people..... the power of social media! All in all - pretty good and a nice treat here & there. A bit pricey -- $21ish for 6 cupcakes. But so far what I've tried have been pretty solid, so I'll continue to stop here whenever I'm in the mood for a fancy cupcake (or when I get sucked in by one of their tempting photos on social media again).

One of the better cupcake shops I've been to! Smallcakes is in The Arboretum of South Barrington so may easily get lost in all the shops. However, it's worth stopping in for some of their friendly service and tasty cupcakes. The evening I went, they had a bunch of tasty sounding options and it was hard to pick just 6 to fill my box! Surprisingly, Smallcakes isn't just cupcakes - they have ice cream, too! So I finally decided on Peanut Butter Cup (so rich & delicous), Chocolate Cream (looked & tasted just like a Hostess cupcake, cream filled and all), Caramel Crunch (still tasty but perhaps my least favorite of the bunch), and Cookies N Cream (loved all the flavors!) Each day they have a couple of specials and I couldn't resist either one. One was fruit tart which was topped with blueberries & strawberries - so red, white & blue patriotic! The other was the Kitchen Sink which was loaded with a bit of everything. A bit of a coconut overload for me! Smallcakes has great cupcakes, all were moist and topped with great sugary frosting and interesting flavor combinations. I paid $21.79 for 6, not too bad for gourmet cupcakes!

Safari baby shower cupcakes

I called last Friday with a last minute request for cupcakes for a baby shower. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they did explain that it is last minute and they will limited on decorations which i understand. but let me tell you if what I had was limited then I am excited to see what they can do with enough notice time! You can see a picture of my cupcakes in the photos under "safari baby shower" They did the design of cupcakes as grass, clouds, and sun. I got the monkeys at Joann's and just added them on top of the cupcakes. Their cupcakes are delicious as well! Highly recommend this place!

Out of this world, deliciously moist cupcakes!!! I don't like all that fancy-schmancy b.s. - i got a basic, vanilla/vanilla cupcake, two nights ago, and i have been craving another one ever since. It was to die for. Not only was it super-moist, the way a cake should be, but the flavor stands out above the rest. Absolutely delicious. Unfortunately for my waistline, i have no doubt this will become a staple-item when i hit up the iPic (which is how i happened across this place). It's located just kiddie-corner to the iPic. The only down-side is the price. But I wouldn't say it's any pricier than any other boutique cupcakery out there. So from that aspect, probably fairly priced. I think they were like around $4 a piece. Absolutely worth a stop!

The perfect spot to handle your sweet treat cravings! Scoop Society is located in the South…read moreBarrington Arboretum. They advertise having over 80 flavors of ice cream! You are welcomed to sample any of the flavors and cost is determined by weight of ice cream. Unlike other places, toppings can be added for free after you pay for your ice cream. They had a variety of sauces, candies, sprinkles, and even offered complimentary coffee. I sampled a variety of flavors and really enjoyed the Twix Bar, Marsh-Mallow Smores, Salted Caramel Blondie but ultimately chose the Boston Cream Pie. My only drawback was staff could have been happier, the floors were a bit dirty, and toppings counter was a bit disheveled. They also promote most ice cream flavors as "Howling Ice Cream" but some containers were clearly marked as Haggen-Dazs. Either way, I enjoyed my ice cream and would revisit! Tip: They did have (3) non-dairy ice cream flavors on top of many sorbet flavors.

Walking in, all of the flavors are marked with a sticker for The Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream with a description for each. This was a lie as multiple containers were actually marked as Hagen Dazs. There is a sign stating that they price the ice cream by weight, but nothing that shows what the price per weight actually is. For two people with cups that did not hold much ice cream it was $28. I have been to plenty of places that serve Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream, and it is about half the price for the amount of ice cream we got. By far the worst experience I've had getting ice cream and that is a difficult thing to accomplish. Not only was this extremely overpriced, but not even the correct ice cream advertised.

The bartenders are fantastic, all of them. They are always quick to fill a drink or make conversation and have great recommendations. Get there early though, because it fills up quickly, even on weeknights. All the old fashioneds here are perfect, and that's my go-to here. If steak isn't your thing they have a tremendous Caesar salad here. It's quite large too, so I'd suggest splitting it with whoever you bring. The popover rolls are a must. Meaning, you must get them every time. The pasta I had once, it was good, but I love the risotto. The French onion soup looked phenomenal (I didn't get it) but 3 people next to me did, and all loved it. My favorite sandwich on the menu is the French Dip. The interior is beautiful and the dress code is what I would call business casual. Make a reservation or get to the bar early at the best place in town, The Greggory!

We ordered the Pop Over Rolls to start off our meal and they were some of the best rolls I've ever had. I really liked that they had a hint of cheese and the butter was also delightful. To eat, I ordered the Summer Corn Ravioli and it was one of my favorite pasta dishes I've probably ever had. I did get it without the mushrooms as I typically am not a fan of mushrooms but the ravioli was perfectly cooked and the flavors were simply divine. My party also ordered various meat dishes that they all raved about as well. We did order the brussel sprouts and asparagus to share - I enjoyed the asparagus but did not try the brussel sprouts given they had bacon in them. We didn't order dessert BUT did get a fantastic vanilla cake with raspberry sauce for dessert that our server brought given it was my mom's birthday dinner. The cake was SO delicious and I was very happy we got it! To top it off, our service was amazing throughout and it was an overall wonderful experience. Thank you, The Greggory team, for a great first experience! We cannot wait to be back!
