Wasn't quite what I was expecting when we came in, but they were busy. The seating area has seen a lot of wear and could stand a refresh. We both had breakfast, my three egg plate was fine, my wife had the veggie omelette with fried potatoes. Unfortunately within a short time she exhibited signs of bad food, not sure what was wrong with the meal but something was off. Have not been able to speak directly with management about this due to unanswered calls and being hung up when asking for management. Will not plan to try again in the future. read more

This is a small diner like place. Our waitress was very helpful with all the things on the menu. We were there for breakfast so my husband ordered the juevos rancheros with refried beans and bacon with corn tortillas. I ordered 2 eggs over easy with hash browns, sausage patties and biscuits with gravy. We enjoyed everything. The prices were great for what we ate! We will be coming back soon for lunch or dinner! This cute cafe is definitely a hole in the wall/mom & pop! Very comfy & everyone minds their own. It didn't take long for one of the hosts to seat us, they were very respectful. You can tell the employees are always on good mode, they came to work! Our waiter was very calm, but he did mess up my father's order. He also forgot my father's coffee. Nothing crazy tho! This is a small location with very friendly service. It is a local country café that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at extremely reasonable prices. Mostly we saw were locals there. They had a huge Mexican menu, which was surprising and everything we ordered was very, very good. As appetizers, we ordered the mozzarella stick and cheese fries, which were good, even though they did not have marinara sauce for the sticks. My soon to be daughter-in-law, had the taco meat shell salad, which was awesome with the big mound of yummy taco meat. The only thing it probably needed was sour cream. My son ordered beef fajitas, which he loved, just note they do not come with shredded cheese. My husband ordered the grilled pork chops with rice and 2 kinds of beans and a side taco that was filled halfway through the shell with meat. They are extremely generous with their food. My mother-in-law had the frilled, smothered pork chops that came with fried and grilled pork chops with grilled onions and brown gravy. She had the grilled vegetables and fried okra. Their grilled vegetables looked amazing. It was zucchini, squash, and carrots. And I had the smothered , chicken with grilled onions and mushrooms, Swiss cheese and brown gravy, side salad (only lettuce and a tomato slice) and mashed potatoes. They do have a drive for pick up orders, which is going to be extremely convenient for us when we are bringing my mother-in-law dinner. read more

We have been looking for a convenient, moderately priced breakfast cafe, WITH good food. We think we have finally found it. After driving by Country Cafe countless time, I read reviews which were favorable and thought we'd give it a shot. We were pleasantly surprised. We came in late morning on a weekday and it was reasonably full with families and couples (not just workmen). The menu was extensive and very reasonable compared to the typical Irving breakfast choices. Finally, the food was very good and the servings were generous. My friend and I went to Country Cafe for lunch 12:30pm Sunday, the restaurant was about 2/3 capacity. The first waitress got our drink order, she brought sweet tea by mistake but promptly fixed it when she was asked. My friend ordered the vegetable plate and I ordered the 6 oz medium rare steak and 4 fried shrimp, mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese. The food was presented hot and order looked right. I proceeded and ate the shrimp and 2 bites of potatoes and steak. I noticed the portion of steak I was eating was fatty, but didn't realize until I was ready to eat the rest of the steak, it only had a border of meat and the rest was solid fat. when I told my friend, this is not ok, I told the waiter, he took my plate with my uneaten food, then came back and said all the steaks were like that. I was thinking, they would offer me something else, offer a different one, or at least comp the meal. The waitress came back after I called her over, she said that I had eaten half of the meal, and that I should have told her when it first came out. she was offering no option, I asked to speak to a manager, no one ever identified themselves as being the one in charge. She was going to only comp the steak, I told her when something like this happens it is not customary to argue with the customer, and usually the meal should be taken off the bill. I was not satisfied with the customer service, I would not choose to eat here again. I cannot imagine serving that piece of meat, or should I say, fat on a plate. It is a family owned restaurant-and nothing fancy but a good cafe . I had the ham and cheeses omelet -with tomatoes,onion, and green peppers which very good and large.I loved the home fries-that were seasoned just right. Biscuits and gravy was also good- I could not believe how inexpensive my meal was considering the good out was and the large portions.I could not eat it all but I tried!! I don't think this place qualifies as a hole in the wall. It's more the 1960's cafe that is so good it's still here. Hell, I think some of the customers that were there were from the 1960's. Yes, it's got the brown wood paneling we all remember. It's got the faded white drop ceiling that all cafe's from that time period still have. Most of the customers were old enough than Mikey and I fit right in! And they treated us just like family! The breakfast menu was big. I told her, bring me the everything plate! And she did! The food was delicious. Just as good as Grandma's, maybe better! Sorry Grandma! Everything, eggs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, sausage was absolutely perfect. I was stuffed and pig out happy. Accidentally found this new favorite spot while driving in Irving. Stopped by and was greeted by a very friendly guy named "Abel". What a great guy!! He explained everything to us --they have ALL YOU CAN EAT catfish on Saturday only $9.75!!! This place has some of the BEST prices I've ever seen! I had the chicken fried chicken with eggs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy for only $9.75!!! LORDY!!!! GOD sent me to this place because he knew I needed to eat that tender, moist chicken AND I needed to meet Abel For both my husband and I the food cost $28 we had drinks and coffee. read more

To the people who keep describing this place as a 60s/70s establishment, are you daft? People come here to basic food served by friendly staff. The place has lots of regulars. Sorry, I'm still stumped on the 60s/70s references. Do people think this place is "retro" because there's no instagram appeal (or because the staff actually works/has a good attitude)? It's part of a chain of restaurants that operate out of no-frills spaces. Nothing vintage about it aside from maybe some of the buildings be older. And a diner? Who the heck thought this was a diner? DFW isn't known for its diners y'all. Food is mediocre. It's never claimed to be amazing. It's relatively cheap and filling food. Not cuisine. No frills. It's comfort food - "down home cooking" or whatever the heck that means these days. The biscuits aren't made from scratch. A lot of the food comes from Sams and the like. Not a complaint just facts. My family and I have been coming here for over ten years. Friendly service. No big deal really. My grandparents like it but IRDC it's just food. I ordered the country omelette with biscuits and gravy with sliced tomatoes on the side. (I like to put the sliced tomato on my biscuit and gravy.) I knew when I got my order that I wouldn't finish it, so I went tactical. What saves easier? The omelette of course. So I ate my biscuits with tomatoes and gravy and had a few bites of the omelette. Everything was very fresh and delicious. I haven't paid my bill yet, but the prices on the menu ran 2-3 dollars less per item than what I am used to seeing. The food was great. The place is small and a bit of a hole in the wall, but they were packed and still they managed to have enough staff to continually check on us. The portions were perfect size. The biscuits and grave was good, food tasted fresh. Had eggs over medium, bacon, hash Browns and toast. My daughter had the French toast platter with eggs, and sausage. My best friend eats breakfast here at least 4-5 times a month, and she invites me all the time. I'm glad I finally took her up on her offer. The restaurant isn't much to look at, it was a Wendy's several years ago. When the waitress handed us the menu (Party of 7) I was surprised by how cheap the prices were. These days you cant even get fast food worth a damn for under $10. Almost everything here was well below $10. They serve breakfast, they have Mexican options, seafood options, and the traditional American plates. I wasn't in the mood for breakfast so I ordered their Double bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions. When the food arrived my burger was massive, and it was very flavorful. Let's just say I wasn't disappointed with my visit. Our bill for 7 people who all ordered food and drinks was $57!!! Yes $57 Dollars!!!
