a plate of fish and macaroni and cheese

We found this on Yelp as a quick stop off of our route on a road trip, and we were pleasantly surprised. Everything is fried, southern, and huge! My husband went a little wacky and got fried brisket, which he didn't recommend. But otherwise, everything we tried was pretty good. So filling, and a little pricey. You have to get the sweet tea, of course. Great service and cool southern theme!

Seafood Festival in progress.

We visited Cotton Patch in Lufkin on a Saturday night. Not super busy, we were seated in a booth in the front dining room. Our server (Avery) was very pleasant and took our drink order. Since the "Seafood Festival " was in progress, we started our order with two shrimp cocktails and an order of skillet cornbread. The Seafood Festival was advertised on the table featuring the Shrimp Cocktails (see my attached picture). Shrimp Cocktail is one of our favorite appetizers and the picture on the card looked like quite a nice special. We looked over the menu, while Avery was getting our appetizers and drinks. When the shrimp arrived, we were immediately disappointed. The shrimp were 'battleship gray", translucent and mushy. They had been sitting prepared in a cooler on the bed of lettuce under them, as evidenced by the brown and black discolorations of the lettuce. When Avery came back for our order told her we were not pleased and we sent the shrimp back to the kitchen. We ordered Chicken Fried Steak and the Turkey Dinner. Two sides came with each dinner. The entrees and sides were good. Had we not ordered and been served raw shrimp, the meal would have been a more positive experience. We ended up enjoying the cornbread and our entrees. We certainly will be back but I think we will stick the the basic items that are traditionally offered versus the "specials".

Country Fried Steak with Garlic Mash Potatoes & Broccoli

This little Cafe was a great find for me. I love Southern Comfort food. I was greeted and seated as soon as I walked in. The server was at the table right away and took my drink order and brought me tasty fresh baked rolls. The atmosphere was very country and clean. I got a country favorite Chicken Fried Steak with Garlic mash red potatoes all smothered in white gravy. I also got a fixin of steamed Broccoli that had a nice touch of garlic. I enjoyed it a lot!

We are new to Lufkin and have been trying out places around town. We were pleasantly surprised by Cotton Patch Cafe! To start, the service was absolutely wonderful as we were greeted by everyone as we walked in. Our server, Olivia, was so attentive and kind! The food was just as fantastic! We started off with the country fried bacon, and this was probably my least favorite. It tastes mostly like fried batter and would be good on the burgers or sandwiches, but wouldn't get a whole bunch as an app again. I had the maple glazed chicken on rice with a loaded baked potato and caesar salad. It was all very delicious and a whole lot of food for what you pay! My husband got a burger with sweet potato fries. He said the fries were the best he has EVER had and I must agree! Overall, from the service, food, and ambience, this place is 5 stars!

Fried pickles

Decent prices and decent food. Not bad for a small town but nothing stand out ether. We started off with the fried pickles. I enjoyed them, and would definitely order again. For my meal, I had the grilled chicken sandwich and French fries. Again, good, but nothing stand out. For a small town, this is a safe spot for a good meal. But don't expect anything incredible.

The food is pretty good every time I eat here. They also have good specials. I've actually never eaten inside because it's a little tight.

Cheddar's -- A Family Favorite Worth Returning For!…read more This was such a great spot to spend time with family! We came in as a party of nine, and the service was absolutely fantastic. I'm not sure if it was because we went on a Friday for lunch or if their service is always this quick, but everything moved smoothly and efficiently. One waiter, in particular (I wish I had caught his name), was excellent -- attentive, gracious, and clearly proud of his work. Let's Talk About the Food! We started with the croissants and honey butter, and let me tell you -- they were amazing! I would come back to Texas just to have those again. Even after we'd let them sit for a bit, our waiter surprised us by bringing another heated plate, fresh and drizzled with that golden honey butter. It was such a thoughtful touch! For my main dish, I had the steak with broccoli casserole. The casserole brought back memories of my grandmother's recipe -- warm, cheesy, and full of flavor. It felt like a little bite of home. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and my tablemates couldn't stop talking about the ribs and green beans, which are must-tries if you go. Atmosphere & Overall Experience Since we came during a slower time, the restaurant was mostly empty, so I can't comment too much on the full dining atmosphere. But based on what my family (who are regulars) shared, it's always a friendly, family-oriented environment -- the kind of place where you can relax, laugh, and enjoy good food together. If you're ever near a Cheddar's, definitely check it out for yourself. Leave a review and let me know what your favorite part of the meal was -- but don't skip those croissants! They're worth the trip alone.

They warm up the table with this amazing cornbread & hot rolls Today I had the fried catfish with fries and coleslaw. It was deliciously light & flaky but so filling I only ate 1 filet. The coleslaw was the best I've ever had! Ever! And I don't normally eat/like hush puppies but I always try and thumbs up; different from what I've tried in years past. My husband had the chicken fried steak with okra & mashed potatoes which I got a 'it was good' response which really means... he ate all of it with no complaints. Lol very rare to get a 'fantastic' or 'delicious' outta him. There are no booths, which is my preferred dining experience but we're not here for the comfort! The table was a little wobbly but I didn't care, I love staring at the pie shelf while dining! Nicely country style decorum. Great food delivered quickly with a smile! prices are inline with the quality/quantity! Thank you! Happy New Year!

Chicken fried chicken was juicy and properly seasoned and the best we'd ever had. Ditto for the green beans and the okra. She wouldn't tell us what she puts in the green beans, but it's some combination of bacon grease and magic, I swear. The okra was fresh cut, fresh battered, fresh fried, unlike every other place I get it where you can tell it's out of a bag. Hot water cornbread was ah-mazing. I only wish I had honey to slather on it along with the butter. White gravy was fantastic, with just a hint of sweetness we couldn't quite put our finger on. Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were delicious, but also the only things I can say were on par with some of our other favorites. Prices are extremely reasonable. And the service is as down home and personal as you would expect at a place like Sylvia Mae's. But don't expect quick delivery of your food. Makes you feel like you're in a Texas country town for sure! My daughter and I were in Nacogdoches for college visit to SFA and we looked this place up in the hopes that we would find something different than a normal chain stop. It certainly is different and was exactly what you might imagine. Everything on the menu is decently priced and it seems that Tuesday is the place to be with short stack specials for $2 along with the weekday breakfast special at $6.95 On of my daughter's favorite meals is chicken fried steak and what better place to try that than a local diner??? Unfortunately it fell below expectations. The portions were quite large, enough that we could have just split a plate. The idea of sausage gravy on top of the mashed potatos and steak sounds heavy but also potentially fantastic. However both the gravy and the fry were quite under seasoned. I was able to fix mine with some cholula sauce and some salt and pepper was a quick fix as well for my daughter. The side of green beans and carrots she got were actually pretty good so perhaps there was just a disconnect in flavor at the meat station this day. I did very much enjoy the side salad I chose instead of the veggie medley. Came with home-made ranch which brought me back to my East Texas family gatherings with the freshly shaken ranch.....it was great. The portion size was pretty fair value at $13. Like I said we could have just split it between us. Very hit or miss flavors leaves this at a 3-stars for me. But no doubt some of the nicest folks in town work here.
