We found this on Yelp as a quick stop off of our route on a road trip, and we were pleasantly surprised. Everything is fried, southern, and huge! My husband went a little wacky and got fried brisket, which he didn't recommend. But otherwise, everything we tried was pretty good. So filling, and a little pricey. You have to get the sweet tea, of course. Great service and cool southern theme!

    Seafood Festival in progress.

We visited Cotton Patch in Lufkin on a Saturday night. Not super busy, we were seated in a booth in the front dining room. Our server (Avery) was very pleasant and took our drink order. Since the "Seafood Festival " was in progress, we started our order with two shrimp cocktails and an order of skillet cornbread. The Seafood Festival was advertised on the table featuring the Shrimp Cocktails (see my attached picture). Shrimp Cocktail is one of our favorite appetizers and the picture on the card looked like quite a nice special. We looked over the menu, while Avery was getting our appetizers and drinks. When the shrimp arrived, we were immediately disappointed. The shrimp were 'battleship gray", translucent and mushy. They had been sitting prepared in a cooler on the bed of lettuce under them, as evidenced by the brown and black discolorations of the lettuce. When Avery came back for our order told her we were not pleased and we sent the shrimp back to the kitchen. We ordered Chicken Fried Steak and the Turkey Dinner. Two sides came with each dinner. The entrees and sides were good. Had we not ordered and been served raw shrimp, the meal would have been a more positive experience. We ended up enjoying the cornbread and our entrees. We certainly will be back but I think we will stick the the basic items that are traditionally offered versus the "specials".

This little Cafe was a great find for me. I love Southern Comfort food. I was greeted and seated as soon as I walked in. The server was at the table right away and took my drink order and brought me tasty fresh baked rolls. The atmosphere was very country and clean. I got a country favorite Chicken Fried Steak with Garlic mash red potatoes all smothered in white gravy. I also got a fixin of steamed Broccoli that had a nice touch of garlic. I enjoyed it a lot!

We are new to Lufkin and have been trying out places around town. We were pleasantly surprised by Cotton Patch Cafe! To start, the service was absolutely wonderful as we were greeted by everyone as we walked in. Our server, Olivia, was so attentive and kind! The food was just as fantastic! We started off with the country fried bacon, and this was probably my least favorite. It tastes mostly like fried batter and would be good on the burgers or sandwiches, but wouldn't get a whole bunch as an app again. I had the maple glazed chicken on rice with a loaded baked potato and caesar salad. It was all very delicious and a whole lot of food for what you pay! My husband got a burger with sweet potato fries. He said the fries were the best he has EVER had and I must agree! Overall, from the service, food, and ambience, this place is 5 stars!

Decent prices and decent food. Not bad for a small town but nothing stand out ether. We started off with the fried pickles. I enjoyed them, and would definitely order again. For my meal, I had the grilled chicken sandwich and French fries. Again, good, but nothing stand out. For a small town, this is a safe spot for a good meal. But don't expect anything incredible.

We were able to sit wherever we liked, and our waitress came by within about 30 seconds. She was super sweet, took our drink order right away, and returned promptly to take our meal order. The breakfast rush was still in full swing, but everything seemed to be running smoothly, and there were clearly plenty of regulars. Our food arrived in about five minutes, which was great. I got the three eggs and bacon with grits and biscuits. The eggs were scrambled just like I asked, the bacon was on the hard side, and the grits were pretty plain--but once I fixed them up, they were fine. The biscuits were delicious. My wife ordered the two eggs and bacon with hash browns and toast. They forgot to add the cheese she requested in her eggs, and her bacon was also pretty hard, but she enjoyed the hash browns and toast since both were cooked well. All in all, it's a solid spot for a quick breakfast, and we'll definitely give them another try--especially since it's close by and has a warm, inviting feel.

I'm not sure how this place became the tradition, but whatever. Dad seems to like it, and that is all that matters. Cracker Barrel is just this side of awful. Yes, the folks here are kind and the service is OK, but ... meh. It's no different than any other Cracker Barrel in that the food is marginal and the atmosphere is way too kitschy. Pancakes here are anything but fluffy. Sure, one of them had some crispy edge going on, which was decent. The other pancake seemed like an afterthought. They did an OK job on the scrambled eggs, but the rest? The breakfast sausage here is grainier than beach sand stuck to toast, and (all) the breakfast meats -- particularly the ham -- are saltier than the Black Sea. I know people raised hell when this company tried to simplify the logo, but they really should be up in arms about the way-overpriced stuff that is served here. IHOP dominates this place in every way, including not having to browse through a cheesy store on the way in and out.

We were seated right away but once seated, it was over 15 minutes before we had anyone come to our table. The individual who came to the table was the manager. He took our order and then our waiter (first time we had seen him since we arrived) brought our drinks to us. It was another 20-25 minutes before we received our food. When we got it, both of our eggs were cold like the food had been sitting there awhile. This may have been a one off for them as I heard one of the waitress's say a few people had called in sick. However, when a business is short-handed, it is up to the manager to step up and make sure everything is handled correctly.

Pro tip there is a huge amount of road construction around the restaurant so plan accordingly. We were greeted and sat promptly. Karen our server came and greeted us and got our drink order. I went to the restroom, it was clean but in need of a cosmetic upgrade. The restaurant itself was clean and had a Louisiana feel. My wife ordered the Salmon med rare, and she said it was excellent. I ordered the shrimp quesadillas and I was impressed by the buttered flavor of the flour tortilla that was crispy on the edges. I also was pleased with the amount of shrimp and cheese. The guacamole and the pico were fresh and tasty. For appetizers tried the Pistolette and were not overly impressed. The Boudin Balls and sauce were very good. I think they could have been a little spicier, but they were great. The bread pudding was just average in my opinion, but my wife loved it. Having humble & genteel personality while being a menu wizard, she made me feel right at home with her hospitality. My Oysters Royale cooked by Michael were fantastically perfect & delicious. I should've gotten the dozen instead of the 1/2. Being it's my first time, I had to make sure they were on point first & they were! I loved the charro bean side that came with rice & sausage bits topped with pico. The hush puppies are decent with some garlic butter you might want to dive into like it's the Summer Olympic swimming relays. The music and atmosphere was nice & festive. The booths are comfortable & being solo, the 2 person sized ones were perfect for me. Lufkin has a mainstay that most towns would be jealous to have. Come eat here & leave satisfied. Bring all your friends! You can't go wrong here with Tia Jaunita's. You just might want to camp out here.
