I'm so stuck I wanted to love this place!!! Everyone in town talks about rays! When we got there and pulled up someone came right out but no menus or anything! Thankful I looked it up online before hand. For it being old school the prices were a little high. For two people it was $32. The fry's were ok didn't come out hot and fresh. The burgers were ok as well didn't seem to have any seasoning. The best part was the mayonnaise I'm not sure if it was fresh but it was delicious and sweet. When I finished they never came for the tray, we waited and flashed our lights. So I drove to the door then they asked if I paid I said yes I finished and wanted to leave and nobody came. Happy I was able to experience. You can go to the drive up part or eat inside.

Travelers beware. Stopped here for lunch with my girlfriend on a trip through Lufkin. I looked at local restaurants with good reviews and Rays was one of them. Rays has a really nice style. Classic Americana interior and a nice patio out front. You can also drive up and go inside to order and they'll bring it out to you. We opted to sit inside and eat. I ordered the rays special and my girlfriend got the shrimp basket. The burger was nothing special. It was very big but for the $11 price point it better had been. My girlfriend enjoyed her shrimp (around $15. Girlfriend says it tasted like a $10 value) but also said that it wasn't very flavorful. The tater tots and fries were about average. Crispy, I'll give them that. The service was normal. Walk up and order and then they call out your name over a speaker system. The employees did not come off as friendly even when I tried to be nice. All said and done for two mains, one side, and one soft drink it was around $33. There is a sonic and whataburger across the street so you'd be able to get comparable food for less than what you'd pay at Rays. I'd give the food a 3/5, service 2/5, ambiance 4/5, price 2/5.

    Don't miss the show!

Great food! The place has an old timey diner feel to it so that makes it more authentic.

I've been going to Rays since I was a kid. The food is still amazing. The burgers and onion rings are our favorites.

With that level of clarity in a response, I hopped in the vehicle quickly before doubt set into her cranium. My expectations were not high going to a national chain steakhouse. We are seated and I slowly changed my perception of the place. I know I give long reviews, so let me give you an abridged version: Heather, our server, was super attentive and not a bother at the same time. That's a true skill. She paid attention and got everything correct the first time. My frugal meter was pleased. They actually have specials. I enjoyed an 8 ounce steak, 2 sides, and a ccarbonated beverage for $15. The chef got my medium steak correct PLUS it was seasoned! I did not need the offered steak sauce that they carry. The cheesecake slice was huge. Finally someone did dessert properly. I'll be back. The manager told me they will have an apple blueberry cobbler starting next week. Yes, the manager stopped by and had a chat with us. They have a variety of country type music playing throughout the place...along with many televisions around the bar area. I'll be back. My frugal meter is okay with this place.

Cheddar's -- A Family Favorite Worth Returning For!…read more This was such a great spot to spend time with family! We came in as a party of nine, and the service was absolutely fantastic. I'm not sure if it was because we went on a Friday for lunch or if their service is always this quick, but everything moved smoothly and efficiently. One waiter, in particular (I wish I had caught his name), was excellent -- attentive, gracious, and clearly proud of his work. Let's Talk About the Food! We started with the croissants and honey butter, and let me tell you -- they were amazing! I would come back to Texas just to have those again. Even after we'd let them sit for a bit, our waiter surprised us by bringing another heated plate, fresh and drizzled with that golden honey butter. It was such a thoughtful touch! For my main dish, I had the steak with broccoli casserole. The casserole brought back memories of my grandmother's recipe -- warm, cheesy, and full of flavor. It felt like a little bite of home. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and my tablemates couldn't stop talking about the ribs and green beans, which are must-tries if you go. Atmosphere & Overall Experience Since we came during a slower time, the restaurant was mostly empty, so I can't comment too much on the full dining atmosphere. But based on what my family (who are regulars) shared, it's always a friendly, family-oriented environment -- the kind of place where you can relax, laugh, and enjoy good food together. If you're ever near a Cheddar's, definitely check it out for yourself. Leave a review and let me know what your favorite part of the meal was -- but don't skip those croissants! They're worth the trip alone.
