I have been coming here since I was a student at SFA in 2005. I'm sad I didn't find this place until I was nearly graduating because it's so good. Easily the best burger in Nacogdoches. I took my wife and daughter on a recent trip and we had a good time. My wife enjoyed her steak fingers. My daughter loved her chicken strips and said they were "so juicy." One of the hottest spots in town. We were there for parents weekend at SFA and had been told by many different sources that this was a must visit. They were right. Long story short, go over there and have a good time. Food was great and pretty reasonably priced. It gets busy though and one of the downsides of that is trying to find a table as they have somewhat limited number of tables compared to the vast number of people going there. Chicken fingers, Reuben sandwich, hamburger and a pork sandwich made the cut on our table. Portions are large and the prices were reasonable at $15 range for a drink and fries, sandwich combo. I think you can get a little overwhelmed if this is your first time with it being such a large menu and so many people buzzing around, but the folks were friendly and based on all the feedback around us pretty much everything on the menu ranks solidly. My Reubens was a pleasant surprise and worth a try! Despite all the people, place is clean as people tended to clear their own tables to help others out. After having horrible, tasteless and dry CFS sandwich and cheeseburgers from a spot in Hot Springs, I decided we needed a redemption meal. We stopped at Butcher Boy's in Nac because it's on the way home (Hou) from where we were and the reviews were fire for both CFS and burgers. They didn't disappoint. CFS (4/5) was tender with crispy and not too thick of breading, could've used more salt but I did that myself. The fried okra (4/5) and potato salad were on point as well. The okra was what you can expect, tasted fresh and just fried with the batter corn meal based but not too well done. The potato salad seemed whipped and yellow with enough mustard but not overpowering. It kinda tasted a little sweet. Cheeseburgers 3.85/5, needed more seasoning but they were juicy and massive. At least 1/3 lbs patty. The sour cream was a nice touch. I'd leave off the mushrooms since it made the bread too soggy. The fries are 6/5. Get the fries!!!!!!!! The fried chicken massive baked potato was a solid 4/5. Definitely a hungry man portion! They gave you enough toppings and they melted the cheese on top. Hurry up and stir as soon as you get it!!! I'd be back for more of this. The sausage was spicy indeed but like some other reviews noted, how they cook it makes it dry but the bbq sauce makes up for it. I'd eat it in a sandwich or with rice. First I want to thank Butcher Boy's for honoring Veteran's with a discount. They offer $2 off a plate or a feee slice of pie ($4). I got the chocolate pie and it was fantastic. I ordered the Hamburger Steak Plate. It came with 2 thick, juicy, tasty patties, topped with thick onions, mushroom, tasty brown gravy and crispy fries. The wife and I went here for the first time today. I had the chicken fried steak with fries, and my wife had the bbq loaded potato. My CFS was great, very tender, and seasoned well. The fries seemed to be frozen, but were OK... my wife's potato had something to be desired she said the sause and butter overwhelmed the taste. Bottom Line: BBQ runs pretty flat on flavor, though the counter staff are nice. Top Line: While Butcher Boy's are noted locally for their burgers, I came to Texas for BBQ and dropped in for a lunchtime BBQ sandwich and sides. My choices were a sliced brisket sandwich including pickles & onions, a side of baked beans, with sweet tea to wash it all down. Brisket had only a faint smoke note to it so didn't proclaim itself as BBQ very forcefully. Mostly tasted like roast beef. Texture was quite tender, but ran on the dry'ish side compared to other recent BBQ I've tried. Portion of meat, as well as sauce on top of it, was on the puny side (again vis-a-vis other recent BBQ). The lack of saucing, coupled with the not so juicy brisket, left the sandwich with an overall impression of needing some washing down to get it down. Beans were a major disappointment, being very ordinary in flavor (Van Camps pork 'n beans generic ordinary) with only a few miniscule shreds of meat showing up for the parade. About the only flavor addition I detected was perhaps a tiny hit of hot sauce to spice it up a bit. And I'm not sure it was actually there or if I was simply wishing for *something* to be there to distinguish these beans from the consummate flatness of their flavor. Sweet tea was neither particularly sweet nor tasting much of tea. Pretty watery mix. It did have a somewhat musty, nearly swamp water'ish, taste that showed the base was city water, which seems to vary in purity from place to place. The ice cubes I used to keep it cool may well have contributed to that as well. Premises are rather dated and somewhat tired. But I found them to be very clean in the dining area. Obviously well looked after. Rest room wash up area however was tired and pretty sketchy on cleanliness. Kudos for automatic soap dispenser being loaded & paper towels stocked. Young folks manning the order counter were friendly & welcoming, even as they put a premium on efficiently processing the line of customers waiting to order. read more

I'm in Nacogdoches on business fairly often. I have eaten at Butcher Boy's on a couple of occasions. The burgers are good, really good actually. The meat is cooked to perfection with a little grilled crispness around the edges. It is cooked to order and always taste fresh. They truly have a really good hamburger/cheeseburger. On the other hand, I think their sliced brisket is average. Obviously, Texas is known for it's sliced brisket and the competition is steep and comparison is inevitable. I thought the meat was simply okay and lacked flavor. In my opinion, if you have to bathe your brisket in sauce, you may need to rethink your recipe. The potato salad and beans were really good but I'm not coming here just for the sides. Bottom line - Fantastic burgers. I highly recommend them. BBQ is average at best.
