Had the catfish basket and my wife had a junior burger with onion rings. My wife really liked her burger and rings. The catfish platter was truly outstanding. It was so hot when I picked it up at the counter I almost burned my mouth and that's a good thing. Some other places in town you're lucky if it's Luke warm. This is my new catfish place. We stopped at Ray's today on our drive from Tyler to Beaumont. We needed a place that would allow us to have our dog with us on the patio. I went inside to ask if that would be okay and the friendly staff said "Absolutely!". So, we found a place to sit on their shady patio with fans blowing to help us stay cool and had a great lunch of a hamburger, fish sandwich, fries and iced tea. All was delicious. A special thanks for allowing travelers with dogs to have a place to enjoy lunch. Also, thanks for having menu items that vegetarians can eat along with their meat eating relatives. Been going to Ray's for many years. Tonights food was sub par. My wife's hamburger patty was small and her onion rings luke warm. My steak fingers were ok and my tots were cold. Very disappointed in this restaurant. It use to be consistent but not any more. read more

Enjoying a delicious fresh burger here is sometimes luck or not of the draw. When you do get one of their fresh beef burgers does not necessarily mean that the fries or onion rings will be good. That would depend if you were lucky enough to get a fresh order or not. Service and staff are less than friendly unless they know you. Can be rude. I've been here a couple of times over the years. I mainly came for the nostalgia (during my college years in Nacogdoches) and the burgers, although the food was always just okay for me. On my most recent visit, I came just for a chocolate shake. Their carhop service is different than Sonic of course. There are just 2 designated parking areas, depending on if you're getting food to go or eating in your vehicle, or eating inside the restaurant. We were on the way to an event and were in a hurry, but the drive thru was completely backed up, so we decided to park and walk in. The carhop stopped us and said she could take our order instead of going inside, so we were leary it would take longer but we said okay anyway. Sure enough, we were behind about 8 other cars, so it took about 15 mins. When she finally arrived, we exchanged shakes for the money and the car hops here don't really give you your change back if it's within about $1 or 2....since my friend paid, he wasn't liking this part at all. Over the years, they've spruced up the place some for passing cars. They've even added a wood deck out front for outdoor seating when the weather is nice enough. As far as the chocolate shake, it was very smooth in consistently and almost seemed like a smoothie, instead of a hand spun shake like we're used to getting at some of these older drive-ins and malt shops. We've gotten Rays a total of 4 times. The first time was the best, and the next three progressively got worse which is disappointing. The quality of food is what my stars are based on. The sides we've tried have never stood out nor even finished (onion rings, fries, tots) The burger patties are small unless you get double meat and the bread has been hard the last 2. I'm not sure if they are having off season right now or what cause the very first time, the food was great. I'm sure I'll be back and I'll adjust my rating if necessary read more

This place is over rated by the locals. I order a trout plate for 9 something dollars. I got two pieces of fish, a hug slice of onion, one slice of buttered bread and five onion rings. Complete rip off. The fish was mediocre at best ms Gordon's fish sticks are just as good. I only got two for ten dollars!!! Making me laugh. The onion rings were mealy and left a flour residue in my mouth. Whataburger across the street is a much better option for price and quality. read more
