Got the Brisket Queso for an appetizer. Then the value meal Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. Best Chicken Fried Steak I have had in a long time, not slight with the gravy (good gravy)! Potatoes were so yummy! Had the Blackberry Tea-super flavorful! Big portions! Great onion rings, perfect fries, jalapeño/crawfish chowder was aces. My steak was nicely marbled but fattier than the average. Kitchen / bar had trouble with a few special requests, like "a shot of coconut milk". Took a while But it got done. Waitress Tess was aces! Drinks full and helpful. Lots of leftovers for the price which was, with 2 mixed drinks and two beers, with a generous tip, $170 bucks. The beef wasn't quite worth it but these days what is. Great taste, but didn't get rare right, it came blue. I'd go back if Im in the area bit I'd try some of their fried dishes which looked spectacular and well portioned for the prices I saw. read more

We came on a Sunday during lunch time and were seated right away, our waitress was pretty nice. The rolls were pretty solid, I'd say a 4/5. The skillet cornbread was a little on the dry side and I feel like the cinnamon butter was giving it an odd taste so I'd have to give it 3/5. The chicken fried chicken with garlic mash potatoes and jalapeño gravy was pretty good, but the chicken fried chicken was quite thin so I'd give it a 4/5. This little Cafe was a great find for me. I love Southern Comfort food. I was greeted and seated as soon as I walked in. The server was at the table right away and took my drink order and brought me tasty fresh baked rolls. The atmosphere was very country and clean. We visited Cotton Patch in Lufkin on a Saturday night. Not super busy, we were seated in a booth in the front dining room. Our server (Avery) was very pleasant and took our drink order. Since the "Seafood Festival " was in progress, we started our order with two shrimp cocktails and an order of skillet cornbread. The Seafood Festival was advertised on the table featuring the Shrimp Cocktails (see my attached picture). Shrimp Cocktail is one of our favorite appetizers and the picture on the card looked like quite a nice special. We looked over the menu, while Avery was getting our appetizers and drinks. When the shrimp arrived, we were immediately disappointed. The shrimp were 'battleship gray", translucent and mushy. They had been sitting prepared in a cooler on the bed of lettuce under them, as evidenced by the brown and black discolorations of the lettuce. When Avery came back for our order told her we were not pleased and we sent the shrimp back to the kitchen. We ordered Chicken Fried Steak and the Turkey Dinner. Two sides came with each dinner. The entrees and sides were good. Had we not ordered and been served raw shrimp, the meal would have been a more positive experience. We ended up enjoying the cornbread and our entrees. We certainly will be back but I think we will stick the the basic items that are traditionally offered versus the "specials". read more

I wasnt expecting too much as this was my first time at this restaurant. First off place was really clean and no unpleasant smells. Nicely arranged seating and no long wait for service. Ordered the chicken and dumplings and honey sweet cornbread and I am glad I did. The taste was just like mom used to make, perfect in every way. All tasted made from scratch and I recommend the chicken and dumplings and cornbread and it was priced very low and that surprised me. We are new to Lufkin and have been trying out places around town. We were pleasantly surprised by Cotton Patch Cafe! To start, the service was absolutely wonderful as we were greeted by everyone as we walked in. Our server, Olivia, was so attentive and kind! The food was just as fantastic! We started off with the country fried bacon, and this was probably my least favorite. It tastes mostly like fried batter and would be good on the burgers or sandwiches, but wouldn't get a whole bunch as an app again. I had the maple glazed chicken on rice with a loaded baked potato and caesar salad. It was all very delicious and a whole lot of food for what you pay! A bunch of employees with only a few actually working. I watched a man have to get up and ask to have his order taken while we sat without refills. There was one young white man busting his butt as a hostess, waiter and busboy but the rest of the employees just sat in a booth together or gathered at the front with only a few paying attention versus laughing and gossiping together. We were driving from Houston to Shreveport and stopped here for lunch. I've never heard of this place and had no idea what to expect. It was excellent from the moment we walked in. We were greeted by Kelly, who was also our waitress. She was super! Nice, attentive, gave great menu suggestions, and awesome! She brought out a basket of hot yummy rolls first. I never had a problem with this chain, yesterday I was truly disappointed. I ordered a chicken fried steak with corn and broccoli cheese casserole. In addition I ordered a side dinner salad. The lettuce was wilted and how they tried to pass this off was by putting a lot croutons. Once I seen what I was eating I was disappointed and didn't continue eating. The waitress was very nice but she was so timid that I think she could have been frightened by anyone. Lastly, this has to be the first cotton patch that scream their incoming customers from where ever the staff is at, as if competing with each other as who is the loudest to be heard; it is truly crazy. You owe it to yourself to stop by Cotton Patch on your way through town. It's right off the highway so it's easy to pull in on your way to/from Houston. You get complimentary hot, fluffy rolls with butter. Sooo good. Their sweet tea is on point. Any food with gravy is fantastic... chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, etc. I almost always order medium-rare steak. It's well seasoned and cooked right every time. The bacon cheese fries are amazing. Their strawberry pecan salad and cobb salads are delicious if you want a lighter option. All of their food is southern comfort style food-- meatloaf, pot roast, fried green tomatoes, smothered steak, pot pie, etc. Their food is far better, more seasoned and more flavorful than Cracker Barrel, which is down the road. Their service is always great and very friendly. The atmosphere is casual and southern comfort, but less western than a steakhouse or Cracker Barrel. We really love going there when we pass through Lufkin. You just can't beat quality food and great service. read more
