We love Café Del Rio!! Just about every time we go to Lufkin, TX, we have to stop and eat here. The food is awesome, the service is prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere is light and happy. Not to mention the free ice cream as you're walking out!! Our last trip was no exception. Loved the food, friends, and fun. Also, the small kids door is a trip in picking on the shorter adults in our parties. LOL. read more

My wife and I took our son here for dinner the night before his college orientation. The place was busy and had a nice vibe. The setup inside was a little labyrinthine but still manageable. The chips and salsa were excellent, and the queso was really nice as well. Our chicken fajitas were actually quite tender and moist, unlike the typical dried-out or stringy chicken you get at a lot of places. Our waiter was bringing us new cups of soda by the time the previous cup hit that half-way mark, LOL. We'd gladly return on our next trip to the area. read more

The service is excellent. The food was tasty and the correct temperature. The lunch specials are reasonably priced and very large. The decor is "cutesy " Mexican. The only tip is : drink water. The iced tea is quite overpriced. (I know restaurants use the profit on drinks to keep the food cost lower, but $3,50 a glass is really out of line. ) read more

My husband, daughter, son in law and I stopped in to eat at Del Rio Cafe after the movies last night. I had the queso picoso, which is queso, taco seasoned beef and pico de gallo. My daughter had the cheese enchiladas, my husband had Juarez plate and my son in law had taquitos. The food was all very good! Just like I remembered (Del Rio use to be a staple in our lives when we visited Lufkin on a regular basis). The only thing that wasn't perfect was the service. The young lady that waited on us started off pretty strong but failed to come back for refills or to bring our check and take out boxes. read more

Came in as a single guy during happy hour. I decided to sit at the bar to save a table top. Initially service was good, but they apparently switch servers back and forth, so I really had no idea who was actually my server. Overall experience was just OK, but compared to others at the bar, I feel like I was bypassed regularly. I ordered premium drinks and some appetizers , so it's not like I was just having water and free chips and salsa! They never cleared my area as I finished, and had to signal every time I needed a little service, which was sad. It's Tex-Mex and kind of bland. I feel disappointed every time I go. Their red sauce just tastes like onion. Rice and beans bland, even the charro beans. I like their jalapeño ranch sauce though. Shrimp brochette is decent, the tres leches cake is really good. Service is always great though and it's very spacious for parties. I only go when I have to due to the mediocre food. If you like Tex-Mex instead of authentic, you'll probably like it alright. read more

I don't even know the words to use to describe how absolutely horrible the food here is. This was our third time visiting after we decided to give them one more chance. Never again. We had two types of salsas, a queso, and an avacado dip to start....ZERO FLAVOR. I ordered the Juarez and the chicken fajita taco looked like something a kindergartener put together! There were two tiny pieces of chicken and based on its appearance I'm not sure it was even grilled in any way. The tostada's beef was obviously days old and dry and flavorless. The tostada shell tasted old and stale. I can't even describe to you the nastiness that was the glob of cheese they call an enchilada and how are you this bad at making basic rice and beans when you are a Tex Mex restaurant? When my husband expressed how bad the food was and the fact I ate three bites off my entire plate the waiter actually said oh sorry about that would you like any to go boxes? What? Honestly was really disappointed, since visiting Texas I have always heard about this place and seen how it always stays busy. We best the Friday crowd around 4ish. Being seated was fast. Chips and salsa came right now. They were both very fresh and good taste. I was a little disappointed in the menu I thought there would be a lot more options. We ordered a chicken and cheese quesadilla without onions and Tomatoes but they still put the onions on it. Also ordered a beef enchilada. The corn tortilla was a bit much but the beans and rice do have great flavor with hits of garlic. We ordered a hurricane drink first one was wrong then the second one was entirely to strong. The food was ok I will come back one more time and give it another shot. Because people seem to really love this place. read more

I came in on a Saturday night, and they were definitely busy, but we were sat within 10 minutes and we took that time browsing all the gifts. Our waitress was very attentive and we didn't have to worry about our drinks running low. We ordered the stuffed Jalapeños as an appetizer and they were pretty good, I'd give them a 3/5. For my entree, i ordered the chicken flautas, which I had asked the waitress if it had onions in them and she said no but they definitely did. For that, since I'm not a fan I'd have to give them a 2.7/5 plus they were really greasy. We ended with the Tres Leches cake and it was pretty alright, but you could tell it had maybe been sitting in the fridge because certain parts were pretty cold and a little less soft. The decor of the restaurant was very cute and I'd be open to going back and trying a different dish. read more

The rib eye fajitas delicious we had a few different foods which were all great the hot sauce isn't the best if you're into spice but definitely a restaurant worth trying . Great Salsa.... Expect the unexpected! Walking into rhe restaurant, you are immediately surprised by an almost infinte supply of pinataaaaaas... lol. No need to purchase it anywhere else, just go to Casa Del Rio! The hosteses were super nice and someone sat us right away! We started out with the irresistible queso blanco. Either I was super hungry or the queso was just that darn good. I came to later find out that it was just that darn good! Lol I ordered a Swirl Frozen Margarita. It was good, but light. Great for light weight drinkers and those who don't particularly care for Tequila! I ordered the Fajitas and was excited that it came with butter. It was great! The chicken was tasty; however, the only thing I didn't care for was the oddly shaped flour tortillas. I guess I expected less commercial tortillas. Those perhaps that remind you of the mom and pop restaurants. They were tollerable, but clearly not the kind you can see through because the lard has it alllll together. All in all, this is a great restaurant. I recommend it if you are in the area and local folks seem to as well, as the restaurant began to get packed upon my exit. read more

Great service and amazing food i was blown away! So was my wife that's the opinion that matters!

I don't know how a new building can change the food. This place is always packed. I've had lots of different foods here trying to find something that I love. My kids always want to eat here. The ambiance is great, the waitstaff is wonderful. But I guess the amounts of food that are put out daily reduces the quality. I'll keep going back because my kids like it. And I'll keep trying different things to find a favorite. read more

Service was bad, we were seated for 10 minutes with no service, others were seated around us and was serviced in 2 minutes, one waitress told the waitress that was assigned to us, we need service, she didn't respond, so I found a manager, and reported the bad service, he said he would get help, 5 minutes later, the waitress that reported we had not been serviced, serviced us. I reported to the manager there was a racial issue, the white waitress would not service us after 15 minutes and told that we had not been serviced, yet other whites seated was serviced in 2 minutes. He told me there was no racial issues, I shared my experience as a customer, he again stated there was no racial issue, boldly defending. I am removing from my list, can't support prejudice, don't recommend this Resturant, make me sick to experience prejudice, and so boldly done with manager's support. read more

The chili con carne covering the enchiladas tasted like it belonged in spaghetti. The wrong herbs were used. The rice is a far cry from traditional Tex-Med and belongs in the trash. Salsa is boring.
