The hostess and waiter were extremely welcoming and friendly even though I don't know a lick of Italian. I had the cacio e Pepe which was FANTASTIC! Paired with red wine and some house fresh-made bread, I was stuffed even though the portion of pasta looked small compared to the traditional American plate size. We found this place looking for a quick bite and glass of wine after checking into our hotel. It's right around the corner from the Boscolo Exedra Hotel. The pastas all looked good but we weren't there to eat a full meal. Menu said there was a happy hour from 4-7pm, with select cocktails, wines and drinks for $9 euro and comes with a plate of small bites. What it didn't specify, was, do we order from a list of small bites or it just shows up at our table? I asked the server nearby on how to order the small bites and he gives me condescending look and says with a firm, louder than necessary - DO YOU KNOW WHAT A SMALL BITE IS? Well, needless to say, he didn't need to get loud with me as it was a simple question that I'm sure others have asked before. Anyway... The three friends ordered red wine, a generic red and I ordered a Negroni. The small bites dish for the four of us, came with prosciutto, some bruschetta and some pizza cut into pieces. Went there for a family dinner on vacation. To accommodate our party of six the waiter persuaded a couple who had just sat down to move so he could arrange the tables. He did it with humor and they were gracious. Our food was very good. Our party had pasta, pizza, salads, and beef. The watermelon and feta salad was the only 'miss' as the greens were pronounced too bitter. Desserts were great, the cheesecake, tiramisu and a chocolate caramel mousse like thing. As others have mentioned the wait staff was very friendly, calling my son 'boss' and patting our youngest on the head. Nice place and I'd definitely come back! read more

We came here for lunch, they have a nice outdoor patio area for seating and can accommodate large groups. The decor is contemporary and conveniently located near the Termini. The menu is also pretty large, there will surely be something for everyone in your group. The service was unhurried and our food arrived promptly. They also have a large wine list available. Flew into Rome today from NewJersey today on the red eye and got a slight touch of jet lag. I needed a light dinner and my concierge recommended Cotto. At first I was skeptical but now I am A believer as the food and service was excellant. Although I had two basic items...priscuitto and melon and margherita pizza the food was well prepared and the service outstanding thanks to Shakil. An added plus is the ambiance. The Repubblica area is rather light in dining options unless you're willing to try mystery restaurants without recommendation, so a charming and reasonably-priced restaurant like this was very welcome. My partner and I do not pretend to be foodies or gourmands; we just want food that satisfies and tastes good in a comfortable ambiance. It was our first night in Rome, we had stayed at Hotel Boscolo around the corner and were referred to this place by the doorman. Very close, walking distance and very traditional. There were a few locals eating there and speaking in Italian which made us feel better about listening to the suggestion. My wife had the spaghetti pomodor which she loved, I had the carbonara which was not too heavy not too light but just right and great size on the portion. For an appetizer we had the proschiutto, fresh mozzarella and house bread and it was out of this world! House wine called Cotto was delicious as well. We arrived in Rome and needed to find somewhere to eat near our hotel while waiting for our room to be ready. The hotel concierge suggested Cotto and we are SO glad! Very friendly staff, nice outdoor seating area with and without shade and very open feeling! The coffee, wine and food was amazing as well and very reasonably priced. There is nothing positive to review about this restaurant. The service was extremely poor, directed by the manager who sat at her own table and did nothing to assist, even though she could see our visible displeasure through our entire dinner. We had a series of waiters, each worse than the last, with clear disfunction with the entire staff. We did not receive our drinks until 20 minutes after ordering them. The mozzarella carrozza was fast food quality and the entrées, including spaghetti carbonara, were tasteless. When the host recognized that my wife could not bear to finish her meal, he apologized (saying I'm Rome they take it sad when customers are unhappy), offered a dessert, which, after reviewing the menu and our experience to that point, we declined. Referred here my our hotel, we received a 10% discount, but nothing by the restaurant to show proper appreciation of its displeased customers. At least one of the entrées, which was nearly fully intact when taken by the host, should have been removed from our bill. Go somewhere, anywhere else. read more

We went here our first night arriving in Rome. We didn't get in until 9pm and our hotel suggested this place (it became obvious later they had a deal with each other worked out). The server was less than helpful. We got the house wine which was good and started with a margherita pizza, fried mozzerella and the parmesan chips ( which we didn't order). The pizza was nothing special. For entrees we all got pasta dishes- which again, were alright but nothing special. They did split our entrees up which was nice but other than that our server was hard to find. Wouldn't have chosen this as our first meal here. read more

Very poor experience. The server changed 3 times. Our salad was "switched out" for another salad, when we mentioned we hadn't ordered the salad that was brought, we received a shrug. The risotto tasted like very hard rice (it was over cooked- typically risotto is short grain arborio rice and stirred frequently while cooking and is a creamy dish). The server forgot my oartner's dessert (we had to remind him) and charged us for a drink we hadn't ordered. Our friend's meat dish was very fatty and he couldn't eat half of it. We looked forward to Cotto per reviews but have to say were a little disappointment. Ambience is lovely, but the food may be hit and miss here. First of all, the bread tasted a day old, which was a shock considering the other places we've been, bread had been fresh and so tasty, so that didn't bode well! My husband got the spaghetti carbonara which was quite good. I got the salmon salad with the balsamic reduction and it was as bland as could be with only spinach as the greens and a few splotches of balsamic. Rather, she liked the food and appreciated the atmosphere, as it is also well equipped with design furniture. As to say, two senses are satisfied: sight and taste. I had a risotto with mushrooms and melt cheese, plus fresh crispy grilled vegetables and mozzarella. My friend had fish, a delicious sea bass with vegetables as a side dish. Pinot grigio to drink, an Italian gelato to end our girly chit-chat. This place is one of the few that makes pizza also at lunchtime. Another good thing is that it is always open, non-stop, no siesta between the usual lunchtime and dinner time. So, if for instance you get hungry at 16:00 you know where to come. The chef is young and clever. The owners are affable. And the service is excellent: my friend accidentally dropped her knife which fell on the floor, she bent to pick it up and when she stood up again the waiter had already put a clean knife back on the table. My son and I ordered pastas, and my husband ordered pizza...guess his pizza had to wait for the other dishes to be prepared because it reached the table cold. My wife has been working in Rome for over a year and I had been visiting her for a week when we ate a Cotto, so it was not our first visit to a restaurant in Rome. Many Americans don't understand the restaurant culture in Rome and give poor reviews because of it. We stopped in on a whim and boy, am I glad we did. Cotto is clearly trying to be the best restaurant of their type in the area. Everywhere you look they have improved upon details that set them apart. The menu has a wonderful variety and every food item that we received was delicious and presented beautifully. The waiter was friendly and cheerful. The manager stopped by our table and was truly interested in maximizing our experience. The decor was unique, but not over done. The restrooms were very clean, and had a few extra amenities that other restaurant restrooms in Italy don't offer. Definitely add Cotto to your must visit list. The only improvement I would suggest is to offer a greater variety of beer, but in Rome you can make that comment about the over whelming majority of restaurants. read more
